Jan. 28, 2009 — A home in Hendersonville, Tenn., that was once owned by Tammy Wynette went down in fire Sunday night while the current owners were out of town, The Tennessean reported.

The home, valued at $1.5 million, was owned by Tammy and her husband, songwriter-producer George Richey, from 1980-1984. It was located along the Cumberland River, just six miles down the road from the former home of Johnny Cash and June Carter, which similarly burned to the ground in April 2007.

The structure occupied 10,000 square feet, according to Nashville’s WSMV-TV. Arson is not suspected in the blaze, which destroyed 90 percent of the home before firefighters arrived on the scene. Cold weather and significant winds hampered the fire team’s efforts, WTVF-TV reported.

The house was originally built in 1963 for Roy Orbison, who was plagued by fires. Three different homes that he had constructed were ruined by fires
