Elvis Aaron Presley January 8, 1935 – August 16, 1977 was an American singer, musician and actor. He is a cultural icon, often known simply as Elvis; also "The King of Rock 'n' Roll", or simply "The King". Presley began his career as one of the first performers of rockabilly, an uptempo fusion of country and rhythm and blues with a strong back beat. His novel versions of existing songs, mixing 'black' and 'white' sounds, made him popular - and controversial - as did his uninhibited stage and television performances. He recorded songs in the rock and roll genre, with tracks like "Jailhouse Rock" and "Hound Dog" later embodying the style. Presley had a versatile voice and had unusually wide success encompassing other genres, including gospel, blues, ballads and pop. To date, he is the only performer to have been inducted into three separate music 'Halls of Fame'. In the sixties, Presley made the majority of his thirty-three movies - mainly poorly reviewed musicals. 1968 saw a critically-acclaimed return to live music, followed by performances in Las Vegas and across the U.S. Throughout his career, he set records for concert attendance, television ratings and recordings sales. He is one of the best-selling and most influential artists in the history of popular music. His death at age 42 shocked his fans worldwide. Elvis Presley |

I grew up in the Elvis days. I saw him in person at a state fair in Mobile, Alabama when he first started out. There never has been nor ever will be an entertainer to equal Elvis in my opinion. That man could sing and he changed the world with his music. I love his gospel music. I was not one of those who chased him around or screamed over him but he was always there as I grew up. His music was always being played. It's a shame what happened to him. |

That is why I made the comment "ELVIS IS DEAD?" because so many people thinks he is still alive. Sorry, I was never an Elvis fan. He was old enough to be my father. LOL |

Alan Jackson is young enough to be my son but I still like him and enjoy his music.
On the other hand Hank Williams if alive would be old enough to be my daddy. I still enjoy his music. Ladies, what does age matter when it comes to good music. Is Michael Jackson the same age as either of you and if so do you like his music?

I don't like Michael Jackson's music either. I'm not a big rock and roll fan. I like country music and gospel music the best. |

 Okay girls, now it's time for me to tell you about Elvis! I have been an Elvis fan since I was in the 4th grade and my momma's boyfriend at the time took my little sister and I to the drive-in to see an Elvis Presley double feature, while my momma was at work. Girls, Girls, Girls and Clambake were showing. I was instantly in love. During my years at home, I would take my allowance to town each Saturday. I would go to the Boogie Shop and buy a new Elvis record, a magazine with an Elvis article in it and then go to Ma Walker's Corner Drug Store and get a lemon sour with a squirt of cherry juice. I've seen every Elvis movie at least 10 times. I have a major collection of Elvis records, 8 track tapes, cassettes and cds. I ran a fan club for Ronnie McDowell, who wrote "The King Is Gone" when Elvis died, for four years. I have two cds of Lisa Marie Presley's. She looks just like her father and has a beautiful singing voice. Yes, I am still an Elvis fan.
 Lisa Marie looks just like Elvis and is blessed with the same singing talent her dad was. I have two of her cds. As a side note I do want to say that it makes me very sad to think that a man who had everything had nothing. Elvis was a very lonely man. He had lots of money and fame but he let it destroy him. This makes me cry.
But even though he let drugs and fame destroy him, that does not lessen his talent as a singer and performer. He was fantastic! And to hear him sing gospel music....oh man....How Great Thou Art is my favorite to hear him sing! Awesome!

Thank you IRON MAN for putting up a different Elvis video each day, leading up to the 30th year anniversary of his death. I appreciate it and am sure other Elvis fans, like dot, appreciate it also. |

Since my signature roses shimmer and move like the memorial you posted for Elvis, it definitely didn't make me dizzy and sick. I think it is beautiful and have copied it to my photobucket album. I hope you don't mind. (I know dot was kidding, but I wanted to tell you how beautiful the memorial was.) Thank you for posting it, especially since I know you aren't really an Elvis fan. |
