I found something quite cool made appearently by someone who plays the game. A ship tier chart that shows all the available ships on the Federation side in the game.

WARNING: The file itself is a good 6.2 MB so loading the picture will take some time, but will be worth it. Very worth it. ;3 Many ships are very nice looking and even the iconic ships look like the ones in the series and movies. Cryptic weren't slacking with the graphics and such atleast and the newer types of ships look very nice too.

Miranda class is the very first ship you get (or Centaur or Shikar class, it seems random from the start), hence the ship tpye is 'Starter Cruiser'. The Miranda, Centaur and Shikar are more or less cosmetics and in the game you can even mix and match the Saucer, Hull, Pylons, Nacelles and the Neck as you want.

Miranda is a Frigate-type ship when you meet the Mirror Universe Starfleet and usually come in groups of three.

Yes, for free !

Star Trek Online was brought to a chinese MMO company "Perfect World Beijing"

There will still be a Gold Membership for paying players with certain content only accessible to them, but the game will be FREE TO PLAY
