Eldarinians In the Beta Quadrant, a system of 21 planets, Eldarin is the 10th planet in the cluster. Appearance Eldarinians are humanoid. Slender, most Eldarins have fair skin. Pointy ears like Vulcans. Eldarins look a lot like humans. Eldarinians are lithe, and weigh less far less then humans. They have pointed ears, brown is the most common hair colour. Eldarinians have very long life spans. HISTORY Nearly two million years ago, somewhere to the East of the Blue Mountains and the Misty Mountains, gave birth to the Eldarinians. This is where the World Tree, Nordrassil, grows on Mount Hyjal. During what is called "The first period of existence", which lasted for about 8000 years, they developed their own language. This period ended with the Separation, when the Three Tribes (the Vanyar, the Noldor and the Lindar-Teleri) left, traveling westwards. Of the group of Eldarinians that stayed behind, the Avari, was never heard from again. The Great March across land lasted some 27 000 solar years. During this journey, some Eldarinians changed their mind and decided to stay in Rrembly. The second group continued, and established themselves in Greenwood the Great and in the valley and forest of Anduin. After crossing the river Gelion, the Nandor of the Lindar (Teleri) Tribe broke away and went south to settle in Ossiriand. Later more Lindar (Teleri) decided to abandon the march. Among them, Elwë and his followers stayed and populated Beleriand, especially the woodland of Tzoriath. This tribe adopted the name of Thingol. Another group of Lindar (Teleri) stayed near the shores of the Western Sea: the Falathrim. Finally the Vanyar, Noldor and, sometime later, part of the Lindar (Teleri) reached the North Coast, the area known as Calaquendi. This "the third period of existance" followed. This period extends from the invention of the Rúmilian alphabet to the departure of the Noldor. The first boat capable of crossing the ocean was built. Although during the first 200 years, about half the ocean faring vessels were lost to storms, usually no survivors. 9 new Kingdoms were created on the two new continents. For tens of thousands of years the Noldor that lived in Goshinboku, left Valinor and returned to Rrembly. The fourth period of existence started when hot air balloons were invented followed by helicopters and aircraft. A lost civilization, calling themselves Kaldorei was found on a group of islands, Queen Amarantihe remarked "They look like us, but they're far too tall, and far more savage." The Fifth period of existence started 700 000 years later when first Space Flight was achieved. Early life Eldarinians are born about one year from their conception. The day of their conception is celebrated, not the actual birthday - since for them, life begins at conception. Their minds develop quicker than their bodies; by their second year (600 days), they can speak, walk and even dance, and their quicker onset of mental maturity makes young Eldarinians seem older than they really are. By their first hundred years of life outside the womb all Eldarinians are fully grown. Eldarinians' bodies develop slower than humans from the start. By the age of twenty, they might still appear physically seven years old compared to humans. Sexuality, marriage and parenthood Eldarinians marry freely and for love early in life. Monogamy is practiced and adultery is unthinkable; they only marry once. Spouses can choose each other even long before they are married, thus becoming betrothed. The betrothal is subject to parental approval unless the parties are of age and intend to marry soon, at which point the betrothal is announced at a meeting of the two houses. They exchange rings and the betrothal lasts at least a year, and is revocable by the return of the rings; however, it is rarely broken. After their formal betrothal, the couple appoints a time for the wedding at least a year after the betrothal. Marriage is celebrated at a feast of the two houses. They give back their betrothal rings and receive others worn on their index fingers. The bride’s mother gives the groom a jewel to be worn, but the marriage is achieved with its consummation. Technically, only the words exchanged by the bride and groom (including the speaking of the name of Ereu) and the consummation are required for marriage. The Eldarinians view the sexual act as extremely special and intimate, for it leads to the conception and birth of children. Extra-marital and premarital sex are unthinkable—indeed, the Eldarinians would regard them as contradictions in terms. Because adultery is also unheard of and fidelity between spouses is absolute, spouses can sometimes live separately for extended periods of time without fear of infidelity. Yet a sundering during pregnancy or during the early years of parenthood (caused by war, for example) is so grievous to the couple that they prefer to have children in peaceful times. In the case of rape, Eldarinians lose the will to live. Eldarinians have few children, as a rule, and there are relatively sizable intervals between each child. They are soon preoccupied with other pleasures; their libido wanes and they focus their interests elsewhere, like the arts. Nonetheless, they take great delight in the union of love, and they cherish the days of bearing and raising children as the happiest days of their lives. There seems to only be one known example of extreme marital strife in the last 300 years, that of Eöl and Aredhel, in which the latter actually left the former without his knowledge, resulting in Eöl ultimately killing her. However, this marriage was far from typical of the Eldarinians. Daily life The Eldarinians, particularly the Noldor, preoccupy themselves with various things, such as smithwork, sculpture, music and other arts, and of course, what to eat. Males and females can do almost everything equally; however, the females often specialize in the arts of healing while the men go to war. This is because they believe that taking life interferes with the ability to preserve life. However, Eldarinians are not stuck in rigid roles; females can defend themselves at need as well as males, and many males are skilled healers as well. Young Eldarinians have no beards. Apparently, beards are the only sign of further natural physical ageing beyond maturity. Eldarinians sometimes appear to age under great stress. Noldar Prince Cyrdeaen appeared to be aged himself, since he is described as looking old, save for the stars in his eyes; this may be due to all the sorrows he had seen and lived through. Also, the people of Gwindor of Eoithrond had trouble recognizing him after his time as a prisoner of the Tarkata's Grand Champion Gomenasai. Death Eldarinians who die or are killed go to the Purgatory-like Halls of Mandos in Valinor. After a certain period of time and rest that serves as "cleansing", their spirits (fëar) are clothed in bodies (hröar) identical to their old ones. Eventually, their immortal spirits (fear) will overwhelm and consume their bodies (hröar), rendering them "bodiless", whether they opt to go to remain in the Halls of Mandos or move to reincarnation. Naming conventions Eldarinians were typically given one name (essë) at birth, a name that had little to do with who they were or their personality. This name was given by the father, therefore called the father name, and reflected either the name of the father or mother. As the Eldarinians grew older, they received a second name, given by the mother (amilessë). This name was extremely important and reflected personality, skills, or fate. This name was not used by those who did not know the Eldarinians well; it would be considered rude to do so. In those cases, the Father-name would be used. The epessë or the "after-name" is the third type. The after-name is given later in life, but not necessarily by their kin, as a title of admiration and honour. In some circumstances, the epessë is chosen by the Eldarinians himself or herself. An Eldarinians could be referred to by any of the three, but the epessë typically took preference. Their Caste System, Their Hierarchy is as follows: King Queen Prince or Princess (and their decedents) Lady-in-waiting (maid) Citizens The telepathic 'growing pains' begin at the age of 5. Usually the children are taught how to cope with them by their parents. War with Tarkata Almost 1200 years ago, an Eldarinian shuttle encountered the Tarkata homeworld. The two races has been fighting a vicious war since. Neither race has warp drive, and raids usually occurred every 3 years on each others' planets, a one way trip between these two planets takes about 9 months. Almost everytime, Eldarinians and the Tarkata manage to land on each others' planets and setting up a few camps. But these camps never survive long, its occupants retreating to their ships and returning home. Recent History The planet was discovered by accident when a pair of Romulan WarBirds passing through the Eldarin system searching for a Tholian Web Spinner that raided a Science colony. The Ambassador class USS Audacity made First Contact and introduced themselves and explained that they were there to speak with the King and Queen about seeking out new worlds and if anyone was interested in joining Starfleet to learn.
Tarkata Appearance The Tarkata is humaniod, famous for their nasty eating habits. They have very long life spans. Their height varies from the same size as Eldarinians to 250 centimeters. Tarkata are described as repulsive. They are squat, a big head, wide mouths with tusks and slant eyes. Skin occasionally has tints of blue or violet, and it becomes gray and brown with sickness or age. Long arms, like monkeys. They have sour white blood. Skin colour of common young Tarkata is green and blue (Kil'jaeden Clan has yellow skin). Elders overindulge alot as indicated by their ballooning stomachs. HISTORY About two million years ago, Tarkata cultivated a noble, shamanistic society on the homeworld, called Draenor. After nearly a million years of slowly spreading across the planet, war became a way of life. Their new culture has long relied on the axe as the weapon of choice, from infantry to generals. This instrument of war is valued so highly that it is taught to warriors before any other weapon. Captured technology The only reason why Tarkata have space faring vessels is because an Eldarinian shuttle was captured and its pilots were forced to teach how the technologies work to Tarkata Aircraft Builders. Society Their society has always characterized by hardy and rugged living. As a result they are staunch pragmatists, and are never shy of killing when it will protect the future of the Tarkata or his clan. Everyone regardless of gender or station are expected to pull their own weight, and weakness is considered a grave liability. The weakness of one contaminates the weakness of all, and it is punishable by the greatest humiliation an Tarkata can receive: exile. So it is more accurate to say that the Tarkatas are utilitarian rather than noble, but different clans also have different personalities. Harall and the Frosves have brought a notable influence of more compassion in the Horde, typically seen in Harall's kinder treatment towards common folk, who were viewed as a despicable sub-race. However there are clans such as the Warsong who still cling to the rigid, spartan beliefs valued in the Old Horde. But regardless of clan affiliation, the Tarkata prize honour above all else - first honour to ones self, and second honour to the clan. Hospitality is considered one of the greatest honour someone can bestow upon another. It is for this reason that the Tarkatas and Daurens have become fast and unswerving allies, because the Daurens offered the Tarkatas (who were total strangers) shelter and assistance, and asked for nothing in return. There was much variation among the Tarkata. Kil'jaeden is the oldest of Tarkata Clans, nomads that lived in the desert for a million years, Ner UyA Gultn is the tallest. The Hia-Uruk are about the same height and size as Eldarinians. Tarkata tribes and Clans are can found living in forests, grassy plains, deserts, the Wastelands (Barren) and arctic regions. They seem to have a overwhelming fear of the ocean (and deep lakes). Tarkata Warriors are fierce and cruel while many other common folk are shy and cowardly. Males sometimes choose to grow beards that are wild and untamed, while others prefer them to be braided and tasseled. These beards always hang from the chin, as Tarkatas do not grow heavy facial hair above their upper-lip. Men possess a slight slouch, while Women stand entirely erect. Tarkata men, at adulthood weights about 220 kg while women at adulthood is about 260 kg. There is no discrimination between genders. Women are able to pursue the same career choices as men, rise to positions of power and are even expected to answer to the call for battle just as men are. Strength (Both physical and mental), courage, initiative and independence are prized traits in all. Naming Convention Tarkataish surnames are usually derived from great acts or merits a previous ancestor was lauded for, but some exceptional Tarkatas earn their own surnames (Kilrogg Deadeye, Orgrim Doomhammer). Leader Their Grand Champion, Goro is actually good-natured and has been wanting to end the meaningless violence caused by recent wars. In the end, his desire to see peace won out, leading him to settle his long lived grudges with several famous Eldarinian Warriors. Their Caste System, Their Hierarchy is as follows: * Grand Champion (highest rank, rules all Tarkata) * Champion (sometimes taking on duties of Diplomat and Ambassador) * Circle of Elders * General/WarLord * Village Chief (usually elected by a Champion, sometimes the child of a Village Chief becomes the next Chief) * Protector (4 subranks, one subrank always awarded for every 5 years of service) * Warriors/Infantry/Medic (4 subranks) * Common folk/citizens Sexuality, marriage and parenthood Tarkata thrieve on the rush of battle, afterwards the "heat" still in their blood, a female will immediately choose a male, courtship to take place right then and there. Much like Klingon courtship/wrestling match, Tarkata sex is rough and nasty. Tarkata have no concept of marriage, if the female demands any male (who mated with her) that he is to stay with her, he must so do, or be exiled. She is not bound to stay with a single male if she does not want to. Traditionally children are seen as children of the parents, but are raised as children of the clan. Early life Tarkata are born about five months from their conception, completely blind for the first 100 days of life, dependent on adults for the first 18 years (5472 days). They are then given the choice, choosing a life trade to learn. Tarkata Warriors To raise through the ranks of Tarkata, usually means killing a superior officer for cowardice in combat, the young warrior chooses the weapons they will fight with while the elder chooses the location. Or otherwise, a suitable warrior will be chosen to replace a superior officer killed in combat. Tarkata armies are often called Hordes. Veteran warriors led their troops in singing horrible songs of causing suffering and death to their enemies. In regards to ecology, as a people they are highly xenophobic, and will quickly attempt to kill anyone who enters their territory. Their warriors are not fools, however, and will lie in wait, observing an enemy before striking. Tarkata armour is impressive and be easily be repaired or replaced. Scars are a source of pride for a warrior; the amount of scars received in battle marks his experience as a warrior. Tarkata also share a great natural affinity with animals. A number of Tarkata scientists believe their species may have been capable of telepathy millennia ago based on ancient stories. Death Then a Tarkata dies, they should arrive at Qix Ahau. The main gate is called Qix Ahau, which is described as a "sacred gate", behind which are the "holy doors" and "there are few who can tell the manner by which it is locked". The hall itself has 540 doors, so wide that 800 warriors could walk through side-by-side. It is said that there is room enough for all those chosen. Here, every day, the slain warriors who will assist Nebulounichi in the gods' final conflict with the giants, arm themselves for battle and ride forth by the thousands to engage in mock combat on the grassy plains. Those who die in the combat will be brought back to life. At night, they return to Qix Ahau to feast on roasted boar and drink intoxicating drink. Those who are lost at sea, for example, are taken to Sakeger's hall at the bottom of the ocean. Those who are lost in space will have their life force transferred into weapons to be used again the enemy. Tarkata care for Piranha Plants and Ptooie plants. They are very important to them as a people and takes great care of these plants. These carnivorous plants catches and digests animal prey (mostly insects, rodents and arachnids). A Ptooie Plant (Nipper and Muncher) is a strange leafy green stalk topped with a white head, the head of Munchers eventually becomes pink or red. Piranha plants have a strange leafy green stalk topped with a white-spotted green or red 'head', and much like the stalk is covered in thorns. The young of both plants is capable of 'walking' (walking 1 meter every four hours). If healthy both will produce flowers every 120 days. The young of Piranha plants are called Piranha Sprouts, the seeds of an adult Plant are spread by wind currents and rivers. Ptooie Plants grow out of the ground instead of from spores like Piranha Plants. They grow an armored shell around their "head" Piranha Plants are about 75 to 150 centimeters in height at maturity while Ptooie Plants are 35 to 75 centimeters in height at maturity. The trapping structure of a Piranha plant is formed by the terminal portion of each of the plant's leaves. Classified as a small herb, forming a rosette of four to seven leaves, which arise from a short subterranean stem which is actually a bulb-like rhizome. As a young plant, each leaf reaches a maximum size of about fourteen to twenty eight centimeters, depending on the time of year; longer leaves with robust traps are generally formed after flowering. Plants that appear to have more leaves are generally colonies, formed by rosettes that have divided beneath the ground. The upper surface of these lobes contains red anthocyanin pigments and its edges secrete mucilage. The lobes exhibit rapid plant movements, snapping shut when stimulated by prey. The trapping mechanism is tripped when prey items stumble against one of the three hair-like trichomes that are found on the upper surface of each of the lobes. The trigger hairs must be touched twice in quick succession (which prevents non-prey stimuli such as raindrops from triggering the trap), whereupon the lobes snap shut in 100 milliseconds. The edges of the lobes are fringed by stiff hair-like protrusions or cilia, which mesh together and prevent large prey items from escaping. In the open, untripped state, the lobes are convex (bent outwards), but in the closed state, the lobes are concave (forming a cavity). If the prey is unable to escape, it will continue to stimulate the inner surface of the lobes, and this causes a further growth response that forces the edges of the lobes together, eventually sealing the trap hermetically and forming a 'stomach' in which digestion occurs. Digestion is catalyzed by enzymes secereted by glands in the lobes. Digestion takes about six days, after which the prey is reduced to a husk of chitin. The trap then reopens, and is ready for reuse. With age, half of cilia grow hard and pointed, becoming "teeth", and Piranha Plants can actually bite as a defense mechanism. It is a complete mystery how Piranha and Ptooie Plants actually knows something is near, they seem to know preciesly where to turn their head to before biting. Piranha Plants are asexual, unlike the Ptooie. The young of Ptooie is called Nipper (male) and Muncher (female). Ptooie plants have defense against herbivores by spiting a thorny ball. The thorny ball contains seeds of Muncher Ptooies. Nippers have dandelion-like flowers that are made up of four Nipper Spores. When it is blown by strong winds, it releases the Nipper Spores into the air and soon enough lands on the ground and starts growing roots. Some Piranha Plants and Ptooies can grow up to 6 meters in height and usually have a lifespan of thousands of years. Tarkata believe Plants can talk. But it may be just a legend. Daurens Almost 100 years ago, War Commander Montaro's flagship was pounded by Eldarinian ships and retreating. Helm Control failed and the ship drifted off course, several weeks later crash landing on a planet in uncharted space, now known as Mulgore.
The Dauren, are huge creatures who live in the grassy, open plains of Mulgore. They are bovine in appearance complete with hooves and horns, standing anywhere from two and a half to three meters tall, and weighing anywhere from 600 to 900 kilograms. Their immense bodies are covered with fine, short fur that ranges in colour from black to gray to white to red to brown to tan and any mottled combinations or variations thereof. Males make up the tallest and heaviest of the Dauren. Their deep, resonant voices are distinctive. Females are shorter and weigh less than the males. Until recently, the Dauren were a nomadic people wandering the vast reaches of Draenor, always on the move from one place to another, hunting their ancient totemic animal the Kodo. Though the noble Dauren are peaceful in nature, the rites of the Great Hunt are venerated as the heart of their spiritual culture. Every Dauren, warrior or otherwise, seeks identity as both a hunter and as a child of the Earthmother. Dauren, young or otherwise, seek to prove their bravery by setting themselves against the creatures of the wild. Despite killing the animals, the Dauren are taught never to waste anything given to them by nature and to give back what they can. They learn the fine balance that exists in nature and that if they honour the Earthmother, she will bless them in return. The Dauren of Kalimdor have a long and complex oral tradition that has been handed down for generations. Since almost no written record exists of Dauren history, the accuracy of their tales is ambiguous. Regardless, many of their stories provide the only known account for several events in history, and so these stories must be regarded as having at least some believability. |
