Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Sigma Draconis IV Astrological name: Sigma Draconis IV Local name: Gethen Star: Sigma Draconis - main sequence orange-red star Location: Alpha Quadrant, 18.8 light-years from Sol III (Earth/Terra) Planet class: M/P (Terrestrial/Glaciated) Distance from primary: 0.8 AU Average planetary temperature: 7 C; average variation from 19 C (summer) to -120 C (winter); record lows of -210 C have been recorded in the polar regions Local year: 261 standard days (313 local days) Local day: 20.06 standard hours * Time is reckoned by a 10-hour clock; the Gethenian hour is approximately 2 standard hours. Inhabited? Yes By sentient life? Yes Warp capable? Yes Common local flora/fauna: * Thore: Broadleaf everbearing tree; has thick, flat leaves that change from yellow-green to red-orange in autumn and winter; averages 40 m tall. Typically found in the temperate and sub-tropical zones. * Hemmen: Coniferous everbearing tree; has bright red needles; averages 25 m tall. Typically found in colder climates. * Vast assortment of shrubs and lichens. * Kadik: Native cultivated grain, tastes like a cross between oats and barley, high in complex carbohydrates. * Orsh: Native cultivated grain, frequently malted and used to brew alcoholic beverages. Note that fermentation results in predominantly levorotatory (left-handed) alcohols; hence orsh-based beverages have negligible intoxicating effect on Terrans and other species whose metabolisms use right-handed molecules. * Kusth: Native tuberous vegetable, similar in flavor and nutritive content to the Terran sweet potato; can be processed as a source of table sugar. * Pesthry: "Snow-stoat" in Standard; a carnivorous land mammal approximately 75-100 cm long, weighing 5-8 kg, with a double-layer fur coat ranging from ivory to steel gray. Commercially valuable for meat and fur (pesthry fur is an unsurpassed insulator, used in high-quality cold weather clothing); farming or ranching is somewhat successful, although the quality of the fur does not match that from the wild population. * Russy: "Tunnel rat" in Standard; an omnivorous land mammal approximately 25 cm long, weighing 500 g, fur coat in assorted colors (black, white, gray, blue-gray, brown, yellow, red are the most common shades). No commercial value; considered a pest. * Goss: "Snow deer" in Standard; an herbivorous land mammal approximately 1.5 m long and 1 m tall, weighing 200 kg. All parts and products are commercially valuable; small herds have been kept for millennia, but efforts at large-scale ranching have been unsuccessful. * Large numbers of ocean-going fish species. Fish and marine arthropods are common food sources in coastal areas; fish oils, dried or smoked whole fish (dusth) and dried fish flakes (firdusth) are commercially valuable. The natives: Humanoid ambisexual species, average height/weight 1.7 m/75-80 kg, skin color may be various shades of yellow-brown, red-brown or light brown, much like Earth's Native Americans. Head hair is present, but Gethenians do not develop facial or body hair. Unlike true androgynous species such as J'naii, Gethenians are androgynous and sexually latent ("somer") for a 22-day cycle; during the four-day reproductive period or "kemmer," individuals assume a physiological sex of male or female and revert to the androgynous state at the end of the period unless conception occurs. Individuals may become either sex during any given kemmer cycle, and sex is not dependent on child-bearing; the mother of one child may go on to father another and vice versa. Language and culture: Most Gethenians speak Federation Standard as well as Gethenian Standard and one or two local dialects. (In rural regions, people may only speak the local dialect.) Formal or Standard Gethenian is heavily based on the Karhidish dialect. All dialects use the same writing system, consisting of 520 ideographs plus 26 syllabic forms (cf. Japanese kanji and kana). Federation presence on Gethen is largely limited to midsized enclaves (<10,000 people) in the major cities. Relevant history: 500,000 years ago: First humanoids appear in the fossil record. There is a significant "missing link" between these paleo-Gethenians and the other species of their world; current research indicates that they themselves may be an experimental colony created by a vastly advanced civilization ("Progenitor theory"). 450,000 years ago: First hunting-gathering settlements established. These individuals led a nomadic lifestyle and were likely clan-based. Some believe this social structure may have formed the basis for the modern "Clan Hearth" or extended family dwelling. 300,000 years ago: First agricultural settlement established at Rer, in eastern Karhide. Based on goods found at Rer and other sites, trade was common between the nomads and the settlers. 190,000 years ago: First written records appear. The language is pictographic in nature, inscribed on stone tablets; these consist mostly of trade records. Cultures become largely fixed around geography, with permanent agriculture in the equatorial zone and nomadic herders and hunter-gatherers in the sub-arctic. 75,000 years ago: Written language becomes ideographic, with each character also representing a syllable (cf. Japanese or Bajoran). The use of ice tablets as disposable writing surfaces becomes common. 35,000 years ago: The Great Continent is divided into two major nations: Karhide to the south, Orgoreyn in the north. The Perunter Archipelago, extending west and south of the continent, spawns a collection of independent island-states and both Karhidish and Orgota protectorates. 30,000 years ago: "Age of the Great Ones." Written and oral epics and sagas are frequently set in this era; classics include "The Place Inside the Blizzard" and "The Estraven Cycle." 25,000 years ago: "Age of the Enlightenment." Basic scientific and mathematical principles are first recorded. Paper is invented, and commercial mining commences. Powered vehicles, using muscle-driven flywheels, first appear. 20,000 years ago: The Handdara, a meditation-based belief system, first emerges. Previous religious beliefs were animistic in nature; most of these still exist. Some 300 years after the founding of the belief, some Handdarata are described as possessing certain superhuman talents. 6,000 years ago: The Yomesh religion, a monotheistic belief centered around a human-divine figure named Meshe, emerges. 5,000 years ago: "Age of the Harge Kings." This Karhidish dynasty had its capital at Erhenrang, west of the Karga Mountains, and came to control the continent from coast to coast and south of the Sinoth and Ey Rivers. Electrical power, largely hydro and wind-based, is common throughout Gethen, and most vehicles are electrically powered. Radio becomes a popular form of communication. 4,000 years ago: The Orgota abolish their clan-based oligarchy and establish the Great Commensality of Orgoreyn, a quasi-communist government. Border disputes between Orgoreyn and Karhide become common, with one particular hotspot centering in the Sinoth Valley. 3,800 years ago: The novel first appears, with "The Envoy and the Traitor." The story purports to be based in fact, but several elements appear fantastical for their time, including the character of the Envoy himself, an offworld humanoid who offers scientific advancement and membership in an association of planets. Some who accept the tale as at least partially factual think this individual may have been a wandering Vulcan (??). 500 years ago: "Era of Unification." Gethenian scientists build their first manned spacecraft, and astronomers discover proof of life on other planets. Orgoreyn and Karhide fall; civil war rages for a century. Eventually a planetary government emerges, although much scientific progress has been lost in the wars, reducing the Gethenians' technological base to a quasi-medieval state. 150 years ago: Federation anthropologists make their first covert visits to Gethen. Science has re-established itself to late Industrial Revolution levels. 100 years ago: The Gethenians build their first warp-capable spacecraft. 55 years ago: Gethen becomes a Federation colony. |

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Edenia Prime Astrological name: Edenia Seven (Local name: Zaterra, but better known as "Edenia Prime") Population: 200 million Star: Vya. K class star (Orange colour: weak hydrogen lines, strong metallic lines. K stars are more numerous than any other type.) Location: Gamma Quadrant, 97 light-years from exit point Bajor/Idren wormhole Other planets in system (starting from closest to the star): Fal, Mieu, Nei, Cyra, De Aan, Azur, Edenia Prime, Za oar, Toneo, Edenia Minor, Stellat Niya, Ippo, Myau, Thahil, Sega, Mesedda One dilitium moon orbiting Thahil: Sudwana Planets that are in the habitable zone (no life support required): Edenia Prime, Za oar, Toneo, Edenia Minor Planet class: O (almost 84 % of the planet covered by water). Edenia Prime has three moons, their interaction with the planet causes the ocean to be extremely turbulent for long periods of time (normally less than 3 to 4 days every tenday period). Due to the planet's proximity to it's suns, the atmosphere is often ionized (Auroras), giving it a variety of rapidly changing colours. Distance from sun: 0.625 AU Gravity: 80% of Earth Average planetary temperature: 27 C; average variation from 49 Celcius (summer) to -5 C (winter); record lows of -90 C have been recorded in the polar regions Length of Local year: no monthly or yearly calender system in use (One full orbit around sun: 280 days) Local day: A single day is reckoned by a 1000 units clock. * A "tenday" is the Edenian version of a week (7 days). A tenday is 10 days long. Inhabited? Yes By sentient life? Yes Warp capable? Yes Common local flora/fauna: * Hunting Spiders. Gentle creatures, and very rare. They are about one meter in diameter including the legs, and otherwise resemble spiders found on the Gorn Homeworld, white babboon spiders on Earth. * Ceepa. A common pest, similiar to Lice. Once tested as a food source. All eggs must be removed before consumption. * Cave Dogs. Cave Dogs are ferocious reptilian creatures that live in subterranean caverns. These indigenous animals have adapted to use the caverns as extremely bountiful hunting grounds as well as routes for transportation. Cave Dogs get their name from the loud bark they emit while hunting. They almost always travel in pairs and are impossible to train or domesticate. These creatures have a bark as savage as their bite. * Fan bite. An insect (looks much like a grass hopper), up to one meter in height. Very territorial creatures, will scare off, or fight off any creature who comes too close. * Muck Worms. These creatures dwell in (and beneath) the muck of rain forests. They are beasts that move through the mossy growths, seeking prey. They are not fond of brightly lit areas, although this does not adversely affect them. * Canolie. A small sluglike creature considered a delicacy. * Firehawk. A Bird of prey, renowned for its speed and agility. * Stinging Fireweed. A plant growing just about everywhere. It can cause severe skin irritation. * Camouflaged urchin. Very poisonious, found in the ocean, and rainforests. * Common shark. One to two meters in length, known to play in shallow water when not hunting, much like dolphins. (Sharks kills about 3,000 000 Edenians per year. Up to 4,100 000 Edenians are killed per year by wildlife, most are less than 10 years old.) * Large numbers of ocean-going fish species. Fish and marine arthropods are common food sources. The natives: A species of is a amphibian humanoids. Green scaly skin, only the area around the mouth is white, this runs down towards where the human naval is located, where the white area ends. Only women have hair, ranging from blue, green and purple. Scaly skin has a tough leather quality that serves as a strong natural armor providing a high degree of resistance to injury, but injuries heals slowly without medical assistance. They are have a venom gland which is located in the neck around the vocal cords. When it is used, the venom is aimed where it can make contact with skin or preferrably in the face which is then absorbed quickly. If not treated immediately it will lead to excruciating muscle spasms and respiratory failure. A full grown Edenian weighs about 160 to 235 kg (350 to 520 lb) compared to the humanoid norm of 50 to 90 kg (110 to 200 lb), and are somewhat faster in movement and reaction time. Edenians possess physical strength about two times human norm. Telepathic races (e.g: Vulcans and Betazoids) are unable to read an Edenian's thoughts due to their unique brain provides them complete psionic resistance. Like Andorians, Cardassians and Gorn, Edenians prefer hot enviroments, 32 to 38 degrees Celsius (94 to 106 °F), which is uncomfortable for most humanoid species, however they are sensitive to temperatures below 12° Celsius (52 °F) and requires an enviromental suit to comfortablely operate in enviroments below 6 °C (41 °F). Gestation period is 736 days (2 years and 6 days). Although a life span of 100 years in normal, Edenians are susceptible to many diseases and a great number of predectors on the homeworld. So all children are precious, and families are close. Large groups of children very often form very close relationships for life. Ancestral records are kept in great detail, dating back for centuries. Edenian babies learn to walk and talk at the age of 10 to 16 weeks. Some Edenians posses photographic memory. Others can remember events and people they encountered a few days after birth. Edenians are considered adults at the age of twelve. Culture: Edenians are a proud warrior race. Fighting tournaments are very popular, from no contact and unarmed combat to fierce battles with blade and projectile weapons. They also enjoy strategy and puzzle games. Edenians also have a great respect for nature. They value strong analytical and reasoning skills and working as effectivly as possible to resolve pressing concerns and potential problems. Edenians have less ceremonies and holidays than most cultures, but a great love for music. They have a fear of cybernetic lifeforms (ie: the Borg, Bynar), andriods and genetic engineering for cultural reasons. Wars fought was always on a small scale and cascualties were light (less than 100 killed per year). Edenians have a great respect for nature, this helped prevent the devastation some worlds been brought onto themselves. They believe in being part of nature, but they are certainly not on top of the homeworld`s food chain. Relevant history: Earliest Edenian history can be traced back some two million years. Early Edenians were excellent swimmers and lived in the ocean around a long cluster of islands on the planet's equator. 18,000 years ago: The first use of tools and weapons is estimated to have occured. 10,000 years ago: Structured vocal comminication and written comminication was fully developed. 5,000 years ago: Most of the population started living on dryland and over time lost their webbed hands, gaining sharp claws instead. Once safe from the many predators that sweep the oceans, the population starting to grow faster than ever before and their level of technology started evolving rapidly as well. 800 years ago: The land become unable to support the expending population. Most of the planetary civilization moved to floating cities that eventually grew, to house more than a hunderd thousand. From this renaissance came a very strong naval tradition that is still observed today. Many small scale wars break out. 600 years ago: A central goverment was estabilised, all provinces signed a non-warfare agreement, better known as the Four Principles of Peaceful Co-existence. 550 years ago: Aircraft were commonplace but space flight technology was still non existent when Edenia Prime received it's first extra-terrestrial visitors, a crashed shuttlecraft carrying 3 Maorians. They were retrieved, but unfortunately died several hours later from their injuries. Scienists and engineers were put to work building future aircraft and early warp vessels based on the recovered Maorian vessel. First warp flight was achieved nearly 50 years later. 270 years ago: The early years in space proved extremely difficult as many species chose to ruthlessly plunder the resources of their neighboring planets. Edenians are traditionally not militarily aggressive, save in the defense of their own systems. After suffering centuries of economical hardships and invasion attempts, the Edenian Federation of Worlds (EFW) was created as a unified attempt by a federation of species wanting to put a permanent stop to these crippling attacks as well as the mutual benefit of combining the member planets's scarse resources and defenses. 243 years ago: By the 27th anniversary the enemies of the EFW were all defeated which was followed by 206 years of growth and expansion. First working hologram was created. Many researchers study AI. 180 years ago: The first sentinent AI is created. 37 years ago: Centuries of growth and unchallenged expansion brought the EFW into head on conflict with the Dominion. This led to a cold war and a large number of border skimishes before it broke out into a full scale war one year later. 35 years ago: The Jem'hadar overwhelm EDF ground forces. Ketracel-black was invented by Edenian scientists. This isogenic enzyme guarantees death within seven seconds as a violent chemical reaction starts when Ketracel-white and Ketracel-black comes in contact with each other. 34 years ago: EDF vessels are now designed for the highest possible speed across all flight regimes (impulse and warp) and needs only a small crew to operate while the rest of the ship is automated. New technologies are introduced such as the SD, which creates sensor ghosts and the AHPS, which acts as a "giant hologram" often used to disguise ships to ultimately confuse the enemy, even cause them to fire upon their own vessels. Edanians are also known to build facsimiles of Dominion vessels. 32 years ago: Scientists created Smart Suits to battle the near infinite number of Jem'Hadar solders and carry more firepower in ground combat. 'Smart Suits', armored combat suits that are endowed with artificial intelligence. These suits enable warriors with better decision making abilities in battle, often nudging or suggesting courses of action. A symbiotic relationship exists between the suits and the weapon systems that the Edenian warriors carry. This relationship allows the suit to maintain and rearm the weapons properly, something that warriors would normally have a great deal of difficulty with. In battle, smart suits have been known to act in very bizarre and unpredictable ways, even having been witnessed carrying off dead or disabled warriors to safety while still continuing to fire at enemies. The Edenian Warrior / Smart Suit combination is a highly efficient and powerful weapon in most combat situations. 30 years ago: The VAR Automated Tek fighter (VTAT) is an example of art married with wartime technology. Nearly twice the size of a Danube class runabout, VTAT possesses mind-boggling speed, maneuverability, and weaponry, the VTAT is second to none in combat. Four side-mounted fully rotating engine bays (or paddles) allow the VTAT to fly in one direction while facing another, totally disorienting enemy pilots to allow a strifing VTAT to score many direct hits on it's targets. These fighters are fully automated by an AI (most of the time). VTATs are very fast, and equipped with disruptors, phasers and torpedoes, the firepower of a VTAT is weak, but in swarms, they easily wear down and eventually destroy any attacker. VTATs are disposable and easy to build, capable of atmospheric flight and deep space. The fully rotating 360-degree cockpit provides a wide field of vision during combat while it's strong Titanium hull ensures the durability to complete dangerous missions. Edenian starbases sends these fighters in groups of 20 to 30 VTAT for every Dominion vessel to swarm the Dominion`s attacking forces. 18 years ago: A cease fire was declared while the Dominion focused all it's resources on the Alpha Quadrant. The EFW took this opportunity to rebuilt their scattered defenses. 17 years ago: The Dominion broke the ceasefire when they attacked the Edenian home world, but was defeated. In retaliation, the EFW destroyed the cloning facilities on BR 241, Vanler and Kew as well as ten shipyards. Nearly 2000 Changelings were killed during the retaliation. 12 years ago: Peaceful first contact with the United Federation of Planets was at Deep Space Nine on December 21, 2376. 10 years ago: Dominion and EFW once again agreed to ceasefire. There is many Edenian commanders who wish to rebuild the fleet, and destroy the Changling Homeworld. Other major Races in the Edenian Federation of Worlds The Miiaesron: Three sentient mammalian races. Their government is decentralized and clan-like, split into cooperating cells. A number of clans choose to raise their children as a community, their children do not know who their parents are, unless they guess by physical traits and appearance. Olamtai: A joined species like the Trill. Appearance of tall humaniods, blue fur, usual hair colour is purple. Homeworld: MF Turing. Famous for "Falka", it produces an effect not unlike strong wine to the Olamtai, but for other alien races it is considerably stronger and extremely addictive. Parmanians: Human in appearance. Larger eyes, smaller mouths and noses. They invented starship weaponry like the hi-jammer, canceller and Repulsor Field. Their 'history' is quite interesting. They fled the destruction of their homeworld in the Alpha Quadrant by means of huge colony ships, only to be thrown back in time, by 10 000 years. What actually happened is their colony ships encountered the unstable Bazan wormhole and it created several 'copies' of the ships, thrown across time and space to different universes (ie: mirror universe). Shoekean: Four armed race of warriors, usually quite tall and powerful but polite and patient. Their history and culture is strongly based on honour and protecting those in their care. At birth, babies are assigned atleast two other parents from either gender to assist the mother. |

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Skaro Skaro is a planet of roughly the same mass and dimensions as Earth, and the twelfth planet from its sun. It has a single continent that is divided into east and west halves of almost equal size. Skaro is a nuclear wasteland now, whose principal features are a petrified forest and the old ruins of cities. Skaro was the home of a humanoid species with two races, the ORYkals and the Fals. Both races went to war with each other, and the resulting mutations set in motion by the nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons used were soon seen by scientists on both sides as being the end of their species in its (ideologically defined) "pure" form. The war raged on for 56 years. But briefly, for nearly 9 years, the inheritors of Skaro (the Fals) ruled a devastated planet, its seas dead and its surface devoid of almost all life. The name Skaro simply means "home" in the old Fals language. Skaro has two moons: Faelkues and Onegerium. The humanoid people of Skaro all died nearly 300 years ago. Skaro is a haven for Archaeologists but radiation is still very high, Environmental suits must be worn unless working in an protected environment. Many Starfleet scientists claim Skaro is as scary and eerie as the Guardian of Forever. Just as many has died here due to mistakes, mental breakdowns and venturing off alone in Skaro. Skaro's Moon (Onegerium) Onegerium is much like the Earth's Moon, covered in craters from meteor impacts. A lifeless moon. Skaro's Moon (Faelkues) Population: 2 000 Humans + 2 600 Vulcans, Betazoids, Bajorans, Caitians A Class M planetoid, gravity is 0.88 of Earth normal. Faelkues may have been terra formed nearly a thousand years ago by an unknown race. Faelkues is rich in minerals, and the weather is highly unpredictable. Starfleet Science is aware that Skaro's sun will start to dim in 100 years, making life on Faelkues impossible without pressure domes about 50 years after that, as temperatures planet-wide declines rapidly. Faelkues has been nicknamed Mini-Romulus, as it looks a lot like the Romulan homeworld. Wild Life: Wag Rats, resembles over-sized metallic silverfish and had segmented bodies with hair-like tactile sensor probes along the base of their heads, which were topped with crystalline eyes. These are very dangerous creatures, living in packs of 25 to 40. |

-ICANUR- -Our Mother Remembered- The lonely planetoid called Icanur [ee-kan-er] was submerged in a troublesome, like-named nebuloid that covers much of its home sextant. Though not all powers in Sculptor agreed on any one measure, the term 'sextant' is used by qwiedes to illustrate the Risgdanar ( lit. "local stellar territory" in old Maquatt) Galaxy, better known to us as the Sculptor Dwarf, is fragmented, navigationally, into 6 equal parts(inspired by political borders): split at an equator and the resulting halves divided into thirds. Sectors are cubic but obscurely so, as the sextants' borders must all meet at a imaginary vertical line running through the absolute center of the galaxy, which is trained on one end toward the center of the largest stellar body visible from the Icanuran Cloud: The Milky Way. In addition, the sectors less than one-third (1/3) of the distance from the core to the rim are double the size of the rest, and the final twelve at the center are quadruple the size of the rest, so they stretch from sextant to sextant. They are divided similarly to latitude and longitude, and then in layered from extending from the center. ::: The Fogol System ::: The star around which Icanur orbited, called Fogol [foh-kol] was an A6IV type star, and would appear to be almost pure white in color, if not for the interactions with the various gasses present in the Icanuran Cloud nebula. These gasses were continuously absorbed and expelled by the star, processes that produced colors from all parts of the spectrum. At any given point, a ship may observe a tapestry of brilliant yellows and dull browns, while another positioned even a few degrees away may observe a light play consisting of bright lavender and ocean blue. The absolute position of Fogol is documented as well. If the Dwarf were expressed in a 360 degree sphere, the system was 79% (more than 3/4 to extra-galactic space) along (x) 41 mark (y) -15. This put it near the upper-center of the sextant facing SMC and LMC, which was designated (roughly) Low Alpha. In relation to the Cloud, Fogol was visibly off-center, closer to the inside edge, and the galactic center. Fogol had five major satellites: The first, Fogol I, was called Biac [bee-ak], which was a small, heavy sphere with no moon, and whose surface had been scorched to near-blackness due to it's fogolar proximity. Fogol II, Eritefen [eh-rit-a-fen], was actually an even smaller planetoid with a massive gaseous atmosphere that made it appear three times its size. Eritafen had a single visible ring, which was warped by fogolar proximity to the point of possessing an egg shape, the wider end hugging the planet. Fogol III, known as Psotal [soh-tol], was tremendous ball of ice a bit larger than Icanur, and had one moon, whose crust was loose and consisted primarily of a fine white powder which could be distilled to extract its heavy oxygen content. Fogol IV, affectionately remembered as Icanur, was a burst of life devoid everywhere else in the system. Including the qwiedes and their relatives, it played host to many billions of species of plants, animals, and multi-celled bacterium. Almost a third of its surface area consisted of water, and the rest a fluctuating combination of vegetated desert, marshland, jungle, and woodland. While not evident, a thin ring surrounded Icanur, made almost entirely out of highly adherent and reflective minerals. These were found to be the cause of the 'string of light' phenomenon seen from the surface, as as the rocks continuously shattered against and melded to each other, the light they reflected from the star and magnified local galaxies bounced around the ring and eventually met surface observers in the form of a loose, sparkling string. Fogol V, Clocu [kloh-koo] was a dirty brown-pink-yellow gas giant. Its orbit sent it along another egg pattern, causing it to come close to Icanur's once every 212 years. As observed over the course of qwiede exploration, the strange gaseous makeup of Clocu was not prone to freezing, nor any other temperature induced change, but instead caused the planet to shrink to approximately six sevenths (6/7) of its aphelion diameter during perihelion. Clocu had four moons, the largest of which was Eluo [ee-loo], covered in bright orange rock that allowed it to be seen rather clearly from more than 220 light-years away in the therein purposely named Eluo system. ::: The 'Twin Theory' ::: Being close to a star posed a threat to any body in a system enclosed in the Cloud. Ambient collisions of gaseous material wreaked havoc an average of 20 times a Chronome year, and it was not always expected to disrupt rotational momentum like Icanur. In ancient records, Fogol had, for a time, harbored a twin that shone always in golden yellow splendor. Fogol wasn't and never had been a binary system, so this phenomenon popular throughout Icanuran mythos puzzled scientists to no end. They were puzzled only until several probes were sent through Fogol's corona. The probes detected an unusually large concentration of light gasses placed roughly along the equator, which, after inspection, were identified as being evident of a foreign body. The most popular theory to explain this and the 'twin's' temporary existence was that Fogol had once been a six-satellite system, and when the forgotten sixth was caught in the midst of gaseous friction, it was pulled precariously out of orbit and spiraled inward until meeting the star. Made of gasses combustible as those remaining in the corona, the planet's shrinking surface would have shone almost as bright as Fogol, hence creating the illusion of a golden 'twin'. In the latter part of the theory, it is observed that the dark stripe around Fogol's equator is heavier residual debris from a planetary crust. ::: 'Mother' Icanur ::: Now, for the purpose of this article, we need to backtrack to planet Icanur, the qwiede home world. Like any race, the qwiede know more about their homeworld than most any other body. Icanur was a real-life diamond-in-the-rough. A rough combination of color on the surface, which, from space, evened out to a dull, dark hazel. The planet had an 8 930 km radius, a surface gravity of ~1.9 Gs, as well as a mass equivalent to about 4 Earth masses. The surface consisted of 32% water, and, by the time of the Bombardment, ~60% of the landmasses were heavily forested on average. The atmosphere seemed lackluster, despite the already bare-essential attributes of Icanur. Consisting of a blend of oxygen, neon, nitrogen, and scarce other elements, the average pressure at sea level measured at around 647 millibars, which was a long-time obstacle for early qwiede aviation. While this atmosphere was capable of sustaining many thousands of marine and land animal species (a handful of those airborne), only a recorded eight would find their way to the Milky Way, which have since become three: the mole-like Yosig, the agile Nilesav, and Jalinjas, a relative of the Jicde bird. The rotation and tilt of Icanur would be considered chaotic by most standards. At any point on the surface, days could be anywhere from 8 to 55 hours long, and nights identically. From the capital city, for example, one could regularly witness the evidence of this, such as the sun rising in the magnetic east, achieving a roundabout loop, the apex of which could come very close to the opposite horizon, and setting in the magnetic northeast. It was not until qwiede had placed imaging satellites in orbit that they found out how to truly forecast the pattern, or lack thereof.
