Given that this section of the forum has been lagging a bit, and I've been missing Japan just a tad (It's great to be back, but spending a full year abroad can lead to reverse-homesickness once you get back), I thought I'd make a section to answer questions that dew-eyed innocents might have about the motherland of Anime.

Ask away!

How do they perceive the American public becoming more interested in manga/anime?

How many giant monster attacks were you exposed to during your stay?

BTW, Google Street View (which I spend way too much time in) now includes parts of Japan - maybe you could show us some of the places you've been to with that. (I just dropped my little stick figure guy onto Hokkaido and wound up right outside a liquor store. Coincidence?)

Meanwhile, Woodbury continues to get no Street View lovin'. Once it finally does, it's a given that I'll be on the front step waiting for my 15 blurry-faced minutes of fame.

The way in which both myself and the other US exchange students were received really varied predominantly by region. In Tokyo, warm welcomes were had all around. In Hiroshima, oddly enough, warm welcomes were also had all around. In Kyoto, we were turned away from restaurants for being Non-Japanese, which was -really- annoying.

As for Anime/Manga... well, while I was there Taro Aso was just getting big in Politics, and he has stated multiple times that Anime/Manga/Otaku culture are the best ways for Japan to spread its culture internationally. Shame he hasn't been too well received as PM.

Carl... I remember noticing when streetview started including most of Tokyo; I started trying to find all my favorite places on it :-p. I'll see about re-finding them to post here
