So, how did people like this year's Con?

I thought they did an excellent job with registration lines, but they need to fix the lines for major events.

At least the major events were worth the wait. The AMV contest was amazing (as usual) and the masquerade had enough good to counter-act the horrible.

And I'm so happy I tried cosplay :D . I think I might be hooked now.

I didn't get to go to the masquerade, so I can't really comment on that. I felt this years AMV contest was lacking compared to last years, and I'm pretty pissed that the Silent DBZ Film was entered and won considering how long it has been around now.

I dunno, I felt like this year was a bit of "been there, done that" to me personally; by about mid-day Saturday I was ready to go home.

one of us. one of us.

*cough*

ANYWAY

I enjoyed the con but part of me feels like it was missing something? And it's not even that it wasn't fun, there was just a something that seemed weird to me.

The Masq. was hit or miss I think. The walk on costumes were gorgeous but there were too many random skits that made no sense. People need to learn that they can't just do a dance skit without it being perfectly coordinated. Like, the Dead Moon Circus dance skits was exactly what people need to do for a skit to make it not boring.

The AMV contest was good. I am also a little annoyed about the DBZ silent movie. I've seen like about 5 times now and it just isn't as funny after that many times. But I think the selection was solid. I got to feel ahead of the curve since I'd already aired a couple of the entries for anime club.

And unfortunately, I don't think there's anything they can do about main event lines. People will always start to line up early and that's just how it is I think.

So overall, a good con. I give them major props for expanding the dealer's room so that you had more space to move around and take pictures.

The Dealers room was awesome. I'm really glad that they expanded that, it was soooo cramped and claustrophobic last year, this year I felt like I had lots of room to look around and there could have been more dealers there as well, I couldn't tell, lol.

The no-line registration was awesome, but the placement of the registration was not. It was ridiculous that we couldn't go through the main entrance when we didn't have the tags but we could SEE THE ROOM FOR THE REGISTRATION. We had to walk out the building and then into the other hotel and then go into registration. We could have gone into the con itself without the tags at that point.

We didn't go to the masquerade because Chris was confident that we couldn't go because he didn't have a costume, although I KNEW he didn't have to have one. But whatev. We've never been to a masquerade, so I don't know if we're missing anything or not.

AMV contest was kinda meh for me, actually. There weren't really any outstandingly good AMV's, they were all kinda mediocre, and I agree with Lina about the DBZ silent movie, I'd seen it so many times and it was so old that I didn't feel it should have been entered.

Cosplay Chess was pretty sweet, I like how they turned it into a trial for Sailor Moon and Kamina. Although I felt bad for Kenshin. Too many "questionable sexuality" jokes. He even joined the "sit in the corner and sulk" team! That's just mean.

In any case, we really enjoyed ourselves, we felt like we were more involved this year than last year! ^_^

Well, it was missing me. :) Oh well, I should be able to make CTCon. I wound up driving to Quebec City (and boy are my arms tired).

Was it four days due the long-weekend? (Not according to their site). I've been to a couple 4-day ones over Mem/Labor Day (Balticon, BAAF), but you can get burned out waaaay before it's over when that happens.

xD The masquerade is just like, walk-on cosplay for judging and then a bunch of skits. Plus they play the AMV contest winners.

Reg was in the same place it was last year. Before that it was in the room where all the LARP stuff was this year. I realize that they moved it so that they could have a bigger space to work with for lines and such, but I agree that having it inside the main entrance is rather silly. Although Robin and I just walked in the main entrance and went to the room.. so I dunno about that roundabout way.

My personal opinion on Cosplay Chess is that the Cosplot thing was... kinda lame. =X To me, the chess is all about the funny battles with appropriate music in the background. And lots of taunting and banter between the players. Except it kept getting interrupted. x_x;; Could have done without that.

Carl! I was wondering if you were there. Couldn't remember if you'd said you would be there. You best make it to CTcon! And no... it was only 3 days long. Not 4.

Unfortunately Chris and I got stopped by the Con police and we told to GO AROUND THE FUCKING HOTEL. It would have been so easy if they had just let us through. But whatever... we still had fun!

You all should be thankful that you could go. Stop complaining.

Me? I'm stuck in Vienna, Austria. Where beer and wine is considerably cheaper than water. So I had no choice, I couldn't go.

Ungrateful... ingrates.

I can't help but notice that your statement about beer and wine being cheaper than water has absolutely no relation to anything else in your post... Josh, are you drunk posting? XD

According to my interpretation of the time zones, he posted around midnight. But the lack of selling errors and fake Austrian accents makes me think otherwise.

Well... if I had said "The land of "Cheep 3 Euro Opera Tickets" you probably would not have taken me seriously.

Then again, that in itself is presuming you ever took me serious in the first place.
