Since you're all pretty tech savvy and I value everyone's opinions here, I thought I'd bring this dilema to you all and hope you can weigh in on the matter. My laptop bit the dust this morning. Or at least, it's going to in a few days. Kinda of like the three red lights of death on the Xbox. Anyways, I need to order a new laptop, and I was hoping for some opinions on which is the best way to go. Hullet-Packard? Compaq? Dell? (Please, no Macs -- I'm a PC girl.) If you were ordering a laptop today, what would you go for? |

Oh... >_< I'm sorry... Well, I personally would go with Dell... Don't touch HP, for sure.... Other opinions, I'm not really sure....I'm pretty pleased with this Lenovo Thinkpad I got from the school of education, but for multimedia stuff, I'd say Dell. There're a couple of other good options though. |

This is one thing I agree with robin on. If you bring me an HP laptop for tech support, then I will give it back to you and tell you the problem is that its and HP. I loath them that much. But it really depends upon what you want to do with it. And your price range. Give me those two things and I'll do some hunting. And I'll ask some techies I know for their two bits. |

Here is one that I just found on newegg, only a quick search, so its not likely what you are looking for. But its a start, right? Anyways, Asus is a well known company in the tech sector. Their hardware is REALLY well built, they tech support well mannered, and they design secondly only to Apple. Also, newegg is THE places to get computer parts. |

You didn't mention Thinkpads
I should be recommending them but I won't; I've had to replace the hard drive twice on mine over the last 3 years. Maybe the newer ones are better, who knows. If you have the big $$ you could go for an Alienware; someone in the club last year had one and I thought it was all kinds of spiffy. I'm also agreed on HP's; work forces me to use one. And Asus is nice; my desktop's part Asus (on 'iz mum's side, ya know) |

Alienware has gone to crap in the last few years. They've just gotten cheap, they don't last. I mean, sure, they have power, but they don't last. But the new ThinkPads by Lenvo is rather nice. but not a lot of power. |

We have limits. I won't build computers for family and friends because they think I'm their personal IT guy who will do anything, any time. I do have a life. |
