YOU ARE HERETICAL AND BLASPHEMOUS

Everyone, my school wants to pass a policy that requires us to wear (gay) uniforms.

Does anyone think that this is a good letter to send out to the Director of schools:

In my opinion, the uniform dress policy is inaccurately written, and is NOT effective.
Why, you may ask.
Safety, discipline, and school unity may be the objectives of this new policy, but this policy is not effective in achieving it. It does not create a safer environment; if anything, it makes it less safe, as anyone wishing to enter the school by inappropriate means, meaning to cause harm, etc, could simply slip on this new outfit. Although many schools are quite large, students in their own grade generally know everyone else in said grade. Therefore, by having uniforms they could simply glance over said persons attempting to disrupt school, seeing their uniforms, and not recognize them, whereas without the uniforms, they would recognize them of not being a member of their class and instantly report to the teachers.
As for the section stating that it would create a more disciplined environment, this too is not true. Although it would appear at first glance that it would be true, it is not in many senses. For the first and foremost reason, the students would be complaining about the dress constantly; also, the said dress code is extremely revealing for larger students and would make them more self-conscious of themselves. Self-conscious students do not wish to come to school ( i.e. being "made fun of"; et cetera), thus decreasing the school attendance rate instead of increasing it. As for reducing the drop-out rates, I do not see how this would reduce the drop-out rate; however, it may increase it if the students feel that they are being controlled; also, most students severely dislike the policy of being made to wear certain uniforms.

The sentence saying " Finally, uniform dress promotes school unity by eliminating factors that can create economic and social divisions among individuals, such as clothing style and brands, thus allowing students to become more conscious of such shared goals as meeting academic standards, developing self-confidence, and understanding diversity," is quite wrong on many fronts. First and foremost, it does not eliminate economic or social divisions, simply because of the white shirts, which may be stained. If a student does not wash his/her hair, then it is still creating an economic and social division. Also, stained white shirts could be looked down upon by other students, perhaps even to the point that could be considered bullying, which would decrease the school attendance rate. It also does not prevent the wearing of armbands or make-up by boys, or any other form of item worn by the "emo" group of the populous, so it still creates social factions. For the brand part, I simply ask you one question: Where do you find these non-labeled shirts, or pants? I have yet to see one polo-style shirt that does not have a logo on it; if it does, it does not fit the requirements of the standard dress code that is being proposed here. Also, students dislike wearing these uniforms, as said above, and thus will not pay attention as much in class; I, certainly, know that when I am angry at a teacher or at the rules in general, I tend not to pay attention as much, thus decreasing what I have learned that day. These aforementioned reasons will only distract students from the academic goals, not allow them to focus on them more. Here, I shall paraphrase a philosophy from the room or Mr. Richard Lynn: It does not matter what you wear, but instead it matters what you learn. You may ask why am I even writing this if this philosophy is within my beliefs. The answer is that learning is disrupted by this policy.

But before I go on, I would like to point out a small clause in the aforementioned sentence that I have been ranting on to you about incessantly: "understanding diversity." I wish to know how exactly students can understand diversity if they are all dressed alike, and their individuality is taken from them. Parents, teachers included, teach their children from the day that they are born that they are each unique, all special in their own way. This dress code policy conflicts with the philosophy held by so many parents, which would require large amounts of exemptions on the part of the Director of schools.

Another question I ask you: who will pay for the uniforms for those families that cannot pay for their own child's? I'll leave you that to ponder.

I also ask you, "Why isn't the dress code policy being enforced now? It is perfectly fine as it is, yet it is not being enforced to the highest degree, except for those staff in the schools which are on their most diligent watches for those that break the policy of the county, which are few." The dress code at the moment works out fine. Enforce it, and you will have a much better school environment.

If you have read this letter through-and-through (which I would expect no less of) you will see the various reasons why this policy is bad for Obion County.

But it is not just bad for the education system; it is also bad for the economy. Half of the economy at this time is comprised of students; if the students no longer wear their clothing to school, then they will no longer be buying as many clothes from stores. Not only this, but it is harder on the parents; they must then furnish non-school clothing and school clothing, which costs more money. Also, the type of pants specified do not have the proper "knees" that a small child needs. The knees on Khaki pants wear out extremely quick, and grass stain quite easily. This requires it to be replaced. Then the white shirts stain with such ease that I almost gawk at the proposal of having to eat a ribette with them on, or eat a hot dog with mustard, ketchup, et cetera. This requires you to replace the white shirt more, or risk being mocked by other students at school. Also, I already have in mind what you are going to say at this: "Why, the staff will stop any mocking that is going on." This statement is only semi-true; to make it completely true, you must reword it to say: "The staff will stop any mocking that they observe is going on." The teachers, sadly, observe little of the mocking that is done in most school environments.

This will completely devastate all of Obion County if you pass this policy; economy, education, et cetera.

I beg you not to pass this policy.

Sincerely,
Reid Wiggins, 8th grade, class president of Black Oak.

Any additions before I send it?
