Between her chatty, bubbly roommate, the dozen people living under the same roof, and fight practices, Rogue had been combing the place for some peace and serenity. And, unsurprisingly, the same tactics she used at the high school worked for her here as well; the mansion's grounds were plentiful, with many shady trees and concealing shrubs, and Rogue took refuge under a particularly tall oak with wide, spreading branches and a thick canopy of leaves that provided plenty of shade. Slinging her backpack off her shoulders, she unzipped it and wondered for minute about which new book to crack. She had finished "Dracula" a while ago, and while most of her housemates wouldn't believe it, she really did love the classics. She had just been to the library two days ago and checked out three new ones, the first book of "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes", "The Catcher in the Rye", and, to satisfy her curiosity of why it was such a banned book when it was published, "Flowers in the Attic." Sitting on her knees, Rogue pondered at the covers, and after some aimless musings she chose "Flowers in the Attic" and leaned her back against the tree trunk, relaxing into it as much as she could and opened the inside cover. While the book was enigmatic and started well, Rogue's mind was elsewhere. With all the training courses that Scott made them run almost nonstop, she was tired as well. The quiet was broken up by birds singing and the breeze blowing. Having grown up in a backwater town of Mississippi, the sounds of nature were relaxing and familiar. Her knees were pulled up to her chest and with her elbow on one of them, Rogue rested her head on her fist and let her thoughts drift. |

(OOC: If you were looking for a more peaceful thread let me know and I’ll delete this post. Otherwise...) Sabretooth did a full circle of the Institute before approaching the walls. He couldn’t pick up Logan’s scent but there were a good few X kiddies wandering the grounds. Which one to choose? Pausing upwind he sniffed the air and mentally sifted through all the different scents. Finally he settled on a choice. He had little doubt that Wolverine would want to come after this one. For this little recon Sabretooth was wearing a trench coat with sleeves as opposed to his usual attire. He also wore a pair of leather gloves. The reason behind this being that one of the targets he had in mind was best to avoid skin contact with. Now only his face was exposed. That would mean that Rogue would have a much tougher time to drop him. Moving round to the section of wall nearest his prey Sabretooth effortlessly hopped onto the wall. Quickly scanning the grounds he spotted Rogue sitting under a tree. The little girl seemed peaceful, curled up all snug with her nose in a book. It almost made Sabretooth want to leave her to it. Almost. Hopping down the big mutant made his way quickly and quietly towards her. Despite his size Sabretooth was still a master of stealth, having both CIA and Weapon X training. Once he was close enough he leapt into the branches of the tree. While not silent it was unlikely hsi approach would have been noticed until he was in the tree above her. “Reading anything interesting?” Sabretooth practically growled from his perch. A wicked grin that revealed his fangs was spread across his face. He couldn’t help it, he had a feeling he was going to enjoy this. |

(OOC: It's just fine, Pyro told me about the thread you two were working on, and I was hoping you'd pick up on this!) Rogue gasped as the unexpected and unwelcome voice startled her out of her contemplations. Recognizing the voice of Sabretooth, the girl dropped her book while reflexively spinning away from the tree and pulling one of her gloves off. Rogue was not in the best position to defended from an above attack; she was still on her knees and had barely gotten her right glove off. "It's a lot better comp'ny then an overgrown rat, that's fer sure." she replied, quickly trying to stand up. |

“Aww,” purred Sabretooth with a mock sad face, “Now you’ve gone and hurt my feelings.” The glum expression was soon replaced with a wicked grin as he pounced. Launching himself from his perch he landed lightly in front of Rogue. He reached quickly for her wrists, looking to grab them and stop her from touching his exposed face. If he caught her then he’d pull them up over her head, forcing her onto tip toes. Sabretooth was taking care not to tear any of her clothing. While normally it wouldn’t be a concern, and on occasion deliberate, he couldn’t afford to expose her skin. Once touch and she’d siphon off enough to prove a challenge. Too long and he would be unconscious in Logan’s back yard. That was definitely to be avoided. |

Rogue made a dodge to the left, still in a crouched position she stumbled and Sabretooth was able to grab one of her wrists. Pushing off the ground, Rogue launched into an attack, making a grab at his face. She'd noticed the precautions he had taken since the last time they fought; even his neck was covered and it was not making things easy. Given the longer length of his arms, Sabretooth dodged her grab and was able to capture Rogue's other wrist, and pulling her up like the last time she and her friends had been ambushed by Sabretooth, and she hadn't forgotten it either, but she hoped the the hair ball didn't count on the physical skills she's been devolving as well as her mutant powers. Using the same tactic, Rogue had just enough of her feet on the ground to pull herself up, and, using Sabertooth's grip on her arms as a monkey bar, kicked up, aiming a kick right for his face.

Despite her best efforts Sabretooth had managed to snag both wrists. However Rogue wasn’t going to give up that easy and as he hauled her upwards she hit back. Going with instead of fighting against his grip she swung both feet up into his face. A flicker of a smile was visible for a moment before both boots connected with his jaw. Sabretooth’s head snapped back but his grip didn’t falter. Slowly his head came back down and he gave Rogue a bloody grin. Spitting blood and a tooth at her he coaxed, “Not bad darlin’, what else you got?” using his grip on her wrists and then went to throw Rogue into the tree she’d been sitting under. Originally he’d just intended to capture the girl, but she’d gotten better at fisticuffs and a little sparring promised to be interesting. The risk was low as he was wearing heavy duty clothing that was unlikely to rip and only his face was exposed. His height coupled with his prodigious hand to hand skills meant there was little danger for the big mutant unless reinforcements arrived. That was why he was continually listening for anyone who was approaching. His split lip was already healing and he could feel a new tooth growing. It was itchy but he knew just how to take his mine of it... |

Melody was outside the mansion, well if you count sitting on the edge of the roof outside. She enjoyed watching others frolick, and scurry like they were "cool", she despised posers. Though there was one student who stuck out to her, Rogue. She never tried to fit in, or pretend she was something she wasn't. She was just, herself. She glanced over to her while she read a book, and curled up into a daydreaming ball. Before the girl could even get into her thoughts a Mutant lunged into the tree, and startled her. "Perfect" she thought while she watched him pounce at her, cathing her arms and holding her before she kicked him. She stood up on the ledge of the roof, her black mini skirt, red fingerless gloves, red tights, black flats, white shirt, black jean jacket and platinum blonde hair flowing in the wind. She took two steps backward and ran toward the edge of the roof, kicking off the edge and doing a twisty into a tree, dodging the leaves to be stealthy. She crouched down in the tree, slowly approaching Sabertooth, and Rogue. She got her head in the game causing her pupils to dialate in an insane matter, and her facial expression to become more serious. She jumped out the tree and went for a flying kick into Sabertooth's jaw. |

Rogue was still hanging by her wrists, the kick that she had landed not having the desired effect, other then knocking his head back and sending a tooth flying. Normally it would have given her a small sense of accomplishment, but it had been an attack of opportunity when Sabretooth lifted her off the ground, now she didn't have any move she could do now that he wouldn't notice and block, nor any exposed skin she could touch and use her mutant powers. Thinking quick she tried the blows and blocks that Sabretooth would notice and defend, but with any luck he would need to readjust his balance, moving closer to the tree and it rough bark and limps, if he got his coat or any other clothing snagged maybe it would rip and give her an opportunity. |

Sabretooth couldn’t help but grin as Rogue tried to fight him. They both knew that she was completely outmatched but she pressed on regardless. He wasn’t throwing out any attacks that she wouldn’t be able to defend against, even if only just, and they’re fight looked more like a cat playing with a mouse. Sabretooth’s broad grin didn’t detract from the image. He was enjoying this. Suddenly his acute hearing picked up the sound of someone approaching. Working to keep Rogue hemmed into the tree he listened for who was approaching. They had some skill and were trying to be quite but his superhuman senses could pick them out. Sniffing the air he detected her scent. Female, probably late teens judging by the hormone content of her scent. Flicking he eyes right he spotted her launch a flying kick at him. While the kick itself was well executed the decision to do so was poor. It was a high impact technique but by being midair it left you exposed to a skilled counter. Sabretooth had decades of combat experience and training from the CIA and the more brutally efficient techniques of the Weapon X program. Wolverine kept claiming to be the best there is at what he does and Sabretooth would keep challenging it. Stepping back slightly so her kick would fly past he turned towards her and looked to catch the girl in a bear hug. He would then use the threat of breaking her like a twig to make Rogue stand down. |

Rogue spotted the unwise kick flying in as soon as Sabretooth started sniffing the air. While not surprised that the other girl charged in, it wasn't a good idea. Sabretooth was CIA trained and the only mutant so far that had ever given Logan a run for his money. To Rogue it was bad enough she was tangling with Sabretooth, but now that another one of the X-Men were in involved, then they might be both captured, giving Sabretooth even more leverage, but there was still time, if Rogue got Eclipse to go back to the mansion for Professor Xavier and Logan then maybe they could still get out of this. "What are ya doin'!" Rogue yelled, "Go back to the mansion an' get some help!" |

As Sabertooth moved out of the way for her kick she frowned slightly. She knew she needed more training even if she was a skilled martial artist like herself. Using her peak human attributes Melody stood on her feet where most would have fallen and dodged Sabertooth's bear hug, couching with incredible speed, and cartwheeling out the way. "Sorry jerk! but your gonna have to do better than that" she said as she roundoffed so she was facing Sabertooth and backflipped away. She then took out her silver blade from jacket, and held it up at her face outward so it wasn't facing her body. She looked at Rogue and tried to keep her calm "Don't worry, i've fought stronger opponents than him, and I spare with Wolverine all the time, he'll be nothing to me," she said smiling. Wolverine didn't like to talk about it but he told Melody of thier rivalry, and how Sabertooth always thought he was better. "Come on Sabertooth you always thought you were better than Logan, well then lets put it to the test" She said as she smiled and prepared her knife for battle. She then reached into her other pocket and revealed another knife. Both were about 6 inches in length, and were shining and silver, and smooth to the touch. She then held both her arms outward and held her knives inward ready to slash him nice. |

Blondie was a little faster than Sabretooth had expected. Not faster than him, not by any means, but fast enough to avoid his attack. This might prove an interesting little bit of sport. Rogue gave blondie some sensible advice, go and get Logan and the Professor. Logan would have a good chance of driving him away (much as he hated to admit it) and while his Weapon X mental defence training would hold off Xavier for a little while all it would allow him to do is flee before the Professor left him believing he was a twelve year old girl. Instead she did an unnecessarily flashy back flip rather than a safer hop back which would have accomplished the same thing without exposing her to an attack she wouldn’t see coming. This one was certainly overconfident. And mouthy. The little toy she pulled out made Sabretooth give a bark of laughter. “Ooo, shiny,” he jibed with a wicked grin. Flexing his fingers he extended his claws to about four inches. While that did increase the risk a little against Rogue the gloves were at present forming a tight seal around each claw. She took a reasonable fighting stance but seemed to be forgetting one important thing. Sabretooth healed. She could slash him across the gut and wouldn’t care. He somehow doubted the reverse was true. Lunging forward at speeds that no human could hope to match he swung first his right then left claws with equal speed as well as more force than even Wolverine could aiming to tear open blondie’s stomach. Time this girl found out who she was dealing with. |

Rogue raised her eyebrow at Melody's attempt to keep her calm. It wasn't herself Rogue was worried about at the moment. Despite her talents, Melody didn't seem to understand that sparring with Wolverine was a whole different ballgame than having Sabretooth trying to kill you, and neither she nor Melody could heal themselves like Logan and Sabretooth, (not to mention with those healing powers, a pair of six inch knives weren't going to do much damage) and Rogue was sure Melody's tastes for the theatrical were going to get them both in trouble before this was over. Rogue, however, was still caught in Sabretooth's grip. His flexed claws gave a marginal advantage to her mutant powers, but Sabretooth had thought this out rather well, and the stretchy leather of the gloves he wore were forming a seal. Rogue doubted that Sabretooth would fall for the same trick twice but it was better then dangling from his arm while he ripped Melody open from stem to stern. Swinging with his motion again, Rogue used his momentum to swing her legs around and try to entangle them with his, trying to trip him up and slow his charge. |

Melody jumped backward as Sabertooth swung and his claws left huge gash marks on her abdomen. She began to scream as the pain was incredible and unbearable. She realized they would need help to take him out, so Rouge's advice was wise after all. She then looked at the ground beside her and saw something she knew she'd have to use. Though she didn't want to leave this fight, she would have too. "I won't let him hurt you, I'll be back with help" Melody yelled as she jumped into the shadow avoiding his second swing. She then raised her hand into the air, and an orb of darkness consumed her. The darkness then changed into the form of a bird and vanished into the ground. The reflection of the bird began gliding on the ground toward the mansion. It scaled the side of the wall and the orb reemerged in the hall of the Mansion. She then ran around the house looking for help. *Exit thread* |

Rogue watched as Melody escaped Sabretooth's second slash, but the gashes he had opened on her abdomen made her worry, but she was lucky that her guts weren't on the ground given who they were fighting. But she had gone to get help and it gave Rogue new hope. Through it all, she'd still been caught in Sabretooth's grip, but now the little distraction that Melody had caused, there might be more of a chance now. With no small effort on her part, Rogue made a full-body thrust out to Sabretooth's face, leading with her ungloved hand, making a rather clumsy grab at his uncovered skin in a last attempt. |
