"Tuna sandwiches definitely don't count," Samantha said teasingly. "And today is special because it's the first time I'VE gotten out of the house and done something fun as well...And it's the day we were reunited. Partners in crime back together," she smirked, adding in a wink. " It wasn't long before they arrived at the restaurant, the smell of seafood reaching their noses even before the got out. "Thank God the smell isn't making me feel sick," Samantha said with a laugh, glancing out the window as she unbuckled her seat belt. "I think Samantha Jr. approves," she said, putting her hand on her stomach as the baby kicked. "Would you like to feel?" she asked, looking over at Shay. |

"And to think my partner in crime is supposed to be on my "enemy's" side," laughed Shay, playfully sticking her tongue out at Samantha. The rivalry between the X-Men and Brotherhood seemed to be fading so far that Shay hardly even knew if either side spoke to the other much. Anymore it just seemed like both sides were trying to pretend that the other one didn't exist...or was just indifferent. The sweet smell of lobster and fried shrimp reached her nose, and for a minute Shay thought she'd died and gone to heaven. She'd skipped out on breakfast (though she'd lied and said that she hadn't) due to the lack of food in the house, and was more than eager to get something to eat. She'd just pulled her keys out of the ignition when she heard Samantha remarking that Samantha Jr. liked the idea of seafood too, which caused her to smile and laugh. "Always a good thing that Samantha Jr. approves," she grinned. She unbuckled herself, turning slightly so that she could reach Samantha easier; putting her hand lightly on the other girl's stomach. She smiled as a light kick hit her palm. "I think you're right; Samantha Jr. seems to be just as eager for seafood as we are." She gently rubbed her fingers over the baby bump in a soothing caress, before reaching down and grabbing her purse. "Ready to go?" she smiled. |

"The day we ever truly become enemies is the day I either force you to live at the mansion, or I move into the brotherhood house," she said with a smirk. She smiled as Shay felt the baby kick. She too grabbed her purse, "I was ready the moment you mentioned seafood," she said, opening the car door and inhaling the scent of food, which was even stronger outside. She waited for Shay to get out of the car and join her, and the two made their way inside the restaurant. |

As soon as the girls were seated, Shay smiled a "thank you" to the waitress before turning to Samantha. "You know, I swear one of those lobsters was looking at me when we walked in," she joked, nodding her head over to the small lobster tank by the waiting area. "He must be psychic; I was thinking about ordering one." She picked up her menu and began to scan through it, getting hungrier and hungrier by the minute. "On second thought, the shrimp platter is looking rather good too," she remarked, having a bit of a weakness for it. "So is the salmon. So is...oh who am I kidding? Everything looks good." She shook her head with a light snicker, setting down the menu and looking over at Samantha. "Having better luck than I am?" |

Samantha laughed about the lobster. "Telepathic lobsters, the X-gene is spreading," she added with another laugh. For a few moments, Samantha stared the menu, stomach growling the entire time. "I'm on the same boat as you are, I'm having a tough time deciding, it all sounds great..." She gave the menu another sweep. "I think I'm leaning towards crab legs, myself," she said. "It's been ages since I've had them...god, it HAS been forever, since before I became a mutant and my parents had a dinner party, I think." she laughed lightly. "I feel old now, that was a few years ago." |

"I thought I saw a few gray hairs sprouting up," teased Shay with a laugh, closing her own menu and setting it to the side. "Though I think I'll settle for the shrimp platter. They don't seem to be affected with the X-gene." She shifted into a more comfortable position, crossing her legs lightly as she smiled, "But in any case, how have you been? I know we have so much catching up to do--" She was cut off suddenly by a friendly-looking waiter appearing to take their orders. With a slight smirk and apologetic look to Samantha, Shay turned her full attention to the man and put in her order, waiting until after Samantha had done the same before continuing on. "Anyway, how are things at the Institute? How's Seamus? Life? The weather?" She added the last one with a laugh. |

Samantha grinned as Shay put in her order, and shortly after Samantha put in hers as well. As soon as Shay finished her questions, she laughed. "Okay but I get to ask you questions next," she said, grinning. "The institute's the same as ever, really." She sighed softly. "I'll be really glad when Seamus and I can get our own place," she said. "It's kind of crowded at the mansion, which is odd considering it's a mansion. There's no privacy, and there's a lot of annoying rules... As for Seamus, he's doing well. He does better under the stress than I do, and he's able to deal with my mood swings pretty well. I can tell it gets to him sometimes, but I don't know what to do to make life better." The waiter brought them their drinks at that moment, and Samantha took a moment to sip her tea. "What about you?" she asked, "How're things with you, and the boarding house, and your brother...? You seemed kind of off when you mentioned him, but I didn't want to pry. Is everything okay?" |

Shay couldn't help but smile in amusement when she heard Samantha talk about the rules and overload of people at the Institute. While she truly had nothing against the people that lived there, it was still in her Brotherhood blood to find some humor in their seemingly perfect mansion. "I'm glad to hear that you and Seamus are doing well," she smiled. "I hope you two manage to get your own place soon. I'll be sure to keep my eyes and ears open for any apartments or townhouses for rent." She thanked the waiter for bringing the drinks, drawing a sip of her lemonade as Samantha began to return the favor of asking questions. "As far as things with me go, I'm doing alright," she answered, a light smile on her lips. "A little tired from working two jobs now, but it's really not so bad. I'm a lot busier than I'd like to be sometimes, and it's not always easy to go out and just have fun like this, but it isn't the end of the world. The guys and girls make it more than worth it." She took another sip before continuing, "As for my brother...well, he's pretty much the same. He's actually planning on enrolling at a college in New York City to work for a business degree. I don't think it'll last, though; he's only going for it because his foster parents strongly "recommended" it." She shook her head lightly. "He's just...Adrian. On the plus side, I'm getting to know him a lot better which is nice. I just...wish he wasn't so stubborn when it came to certain things." While Shay honestly didn't mind telling Samantha the entirety about the back and forth battles between her and her brother, she really didn't want to boggle her down with everything. Shay knew she had problems of her own to deal with, and really didn't want to put anything else on her shoulders than she already had. "But like I said, it's life," she finished, managing a laugh and a genuine smile. "Better to have it than not." |

"That'd be really helpful," Samantha said in regards to Shay looking out for apartments. She listened intently as Shay told her all about how she was doing, and even more intently when she talked about her brother. "I wish I could sympathize with you more on the stubborn big brother deal" said Samantha with a slight frown. "But being an only child, I really have no idea what it's like." She took a few seconds to sip some more of her tea. "I honestly don't know how you can stand living there, though," she said playfully, not trying to offend Shay in the slightest. "Although I guess after hearing me complain how stressful the mansion is, you're probably thinking how anyone would want to live there, huh?" She smiled. "Maybe both sides are just doomed to always think the other is crazy for living like they do." |

Shay was a little caught off guard by Samantha's assessment of the two separate lives they lived, yet could easily see the truth in her words. Sometimes she had to wonder which life truly was better. "It's pretty crazy, isn't it?" she said, shaking her head lightly as a stray black strand of hair curled against her cheek. "The grass isn't necessarily green on either side of the fence...yet we still stay on the sides that we do for our own reasons." She glanced up, her dark blue eyes meeting Samantha's. "For not being green, my side of the fence is paradise for me...even if it's not perfect. But hey, even Eden had it's faults." She went quiet for a moment, burdened by the weight and meaning behind her own words, before shaking her head lightly and smiling, "But hey, don't worry about not understanding the whole "older brother" thing. I'm pretty new to it myself, honestly." Just then, the waiter appeared with two steaming plates of food, setting them before the girls before disappearing with a smile. "Mmm...looks great," smiled Shay as she reached for a shrimp. "...And it tastes even better." |

Samantha decided to leave the subject there, lest the conversation turned more serious than it already had. She liked to save the serious discussions for dinner as opposed to lunch. She practically melted when the food was brought and the amazing smell his her nose. "Oh god, it smells delicious," she said, nodding her thanks to the waiter as he refilled their drinks and headed off to wait on others. She picked up a crab leg and broke it in half and pulled out the meat. After dipping it in butter, she put it in her mouth and nearly died. "This beats burgers, doesn't it?" she asked, swallowing and laughing. "Thanks for inviting me out today," Samantha said sincerely grateful. "I'm having a wonderful time." |

Shay smiled warmly as she helped herself to another shrimp, this one dipped in marinara sauce. She could swear that heaven tasted like this. "Oh yeah! Give me shrimp over burgers any day," she smiled, savoring the taste before helping herself to another. Her empty stomach was more than grateful to finally have food in it. She blinked momentarily at Samantha's sudden thanks, though broke out into a grin half a second later. "Hey, I should be the one thanking you," she said. "This is the first time I've really gotten to get out and spend time with friends in quite a while. Thanks so much for agreeing to come out here with me. It really means a lot." Samantha might never know just how much Shay meant those words. While she didn't mind being too bogged down, she really just missed being able to get out and spend time with the people she cared about most. It kept her going. |

"The pleasure is mine, really," Sam said, picking up her glass of tea and drinking some. After a few moments, Samantha decided to voice a concern, "How come you decided to pick up a second job?" she asked. "Isn't working two jobs and going to school stressing you out majorly?" And dealing with everyone at the brotherhood... Samantha added in her thoughts. |

Shay took a slightly longer sip of her lemonade than she'd originally intended to, taking a moment to figure out how best to answer. Slowly, she drew back from the straw and sighed. "It just sort of...popped into my head one day," she began slowly. "The idea of a second job, I mean. Well, okay so I guess it wasn't completely random but...it just sort of needed to be done, you know? Lance was bringing in some money, but...well, let's just say that I'd rather work 5 jobs and take on school instead of having him resort to that. So I figured that I might as well try and bring in as much as I can...and since working at the pet store has become and after-school thing only, I had my weekends free to do waitress work." She gave a light shrug, taking another drink. "Money's just tight, is the long and the short of it," she finished, giving a light shrug and smile. "It's really not a big deal, though." She thought for a minute before adding, "Oh, and if you happen to come across any of them in the near future, could you make sure that they know that it's not a big deal? I mean, the last thing I want is for them to worry, and half the time I'm not so sure they realize the extent of our situation, but...I'd rather that they didn't have to know." If there was one thing that Shay was grateful for, it was the fact that she could actually TALK to Samantha without having to try and sugar coat things. She just wanted to keep things as vague as possible so that she didn't worry her too much, either. |

Samantha broke open another crab leg and put it in her mouth, forgetting to dip it in butter as she thought about all of what Shay had said. "I can understand why you would do it," Samantha said after a few moments silence. "But at the same time, I'm a little worried. Don't you think it's a bad idea to put everyone else ahead of yourself? No offense intended, I promise. I know you truly love everyone, so I'm not trying to upset you, y'know?" She readied another crab leg, this time dipping it in butter. "I just don't want you to feel like you have to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders. It just sort of sounds like you're living for them, and...not for you." |
