New Stuff Around the Site
Aaaaand it's time for our revival, for the billionth time. Oh, how we are a stubborn board that refuses to die. The Cbox is looking prettier than ever with rules next to them now, and there will be more new stuff to come. Also, because of this, the Cbox rules will no longer be part of the General rules.

Canon Characters
There are plenty of canon characters still up for grabs, so head on over to the character list to see which ones are available. If you find a character that you're interested in playing, leave a post in the Character Request thread to get started. We're looking for new members, and everyone here is super friendly, so take a look around (guests can view almost all the forums here) and leave a comment in the Guestbook if you have any questions or want to introduce yourself.

Welcome to Speed demon's X-men Evo RPG.

This is a written RPG based off of X-men: Evolution. We're always looking for new characters, so check out the character list (under the Characters section) or PM the admin if you have questions. If you are interested in playing OC characters, please visit SD's OC X-men Board (accessed through the button in the top left corner of the site).

Shay sighed, knowing that if anyone had a right to know...it was her own mom.

"Listen...and I know what you're probably going to say...if you even believe me...but a while ago, Marina...she had an accident and hit her head. She has amnesia."

She didn't dare look up at Janet as she continued, "...She wouldn't have even known who you were if I hadn't given her the clue."

Janet took in a breath, Of all the things she expected to hear, this certainly wasn't one of them. She put the bread on the counter and took a step forward, glaring. A cold, menacing glare. "I trusted you," She said. It was an accusatory tone, mixed with that of betrayal. "I trusted you with my daughter, I expected you to take care of her!"

She looked so angry, yet so upset. "What do you have to say for yourself?" She asked, the accusatory tone was back. "I can't believe you would let something like this happen to her! After you were the one to convince me to let her stay here! You assured me this was best for her, and yet this happens! I blame you entirely, it's your fault my daughter doesn't have a clue who I am!"

Her face was reddened. She looked like she wanted to slap and/or strangle her. She was shaking with anger. "It's your fault," She repeated, as if shoving that down Shay's throat would bring back Marina's memories.

Shay took each verbal assault about as well as she'd take an actual blow to the face, flinching with each word.

When Janet had finished her ranting at her, she looked up and said with a calm yet lightly shaking voice, "...You're right...and I take full responsibility for what's happened to Marina. I have been doing everything I can to help trigger her memory...I've been teaching her how to control her powers so that she doesn't accidentally hurt herself...and no, that's not an excuse as to why you shouldn't be angry with me. By all means...you have every right. And all I ask...though I have no right to do that either...is that you keep your anger on me and me alone...don't be frustrated with Marina for what happened. I have a feeling that her memory will come back in time...and I would continue to try to help her get it back...but I can see why you would prefer it if I stayed out of it completely."

By this point, she was fighting back tears, guilt fully sinking in.

"And I am sorry...so, so sorry...for what happened. I tried to get there as soon as possible she'd taken off...but by the time I arrived, she had already been attacked. It's still no excuse, I know, but it is the truth. You can chose to believe me or not. Either way...I still do only want what's best for Marina."

Janet had looked away when Shay started speaking. She hadn't wanted to listen, but she found herself doing it anyway. Once Shay had finished speaking, she calmed down considerably. Here she was, a grown woman, yelling at a child as if she had just committed murder. What kind of person did that make her?

Finally, she looked at Shay, her expression softening. "I accept your apology," She said quietly. She wanted to continue being mad at the girl, she really did...But she was feeling guilty. "I really had no right to yell at you like that, you're a child after all...You didn't deserve it."

That was how she had always been- speaking before she considered others feelings, not caring about what she said. She still felt angry at Shay, but she wouldn't let herself blow up again. The girl was obviously extremely upset.

"Look, I...I'm not saying I'm not still upset, but...You caused this, so I'm going to leave it up to you to fix it. Even with her amnesia, she still seems to have the same friendship she had with you when she had her memories. I've thought things over greatly since we last seen eachother, and I realize that I shouldn't have tried to take her away from here...You really are her first true friend."

Janet drew in another breath. "So, if there's any chance of her getting her memories back, I think it'll be with you. I probably shouldn't get involved, no matter how much I want to."

She walked over and stood in front of Shay, putting a hand on her shoulder. "I'm trusting you to care for my daughter again, please don't let me down...I know I had some rough edges before, but I've been working on them, and I want you to know I'm not a horrible person."

Shay looked up in light surprise at the sudden compassion in Janet's voice, the tears that she held back in her eyes beginning to fade.

"I never thought you were," she said quietly. "A horrible person, I mean. You must care for Marina with how reluctant you were to let her stay here. It's not the Xavier Institute that's for sure...but it is a place where Marina can stay and be treated and cared for like family. And that's what she is to me, really. She's like the little sister I never had. And I promise I will do whatever I can to get her memories back."

She gave a soft sigh, looking away for a moment.

"Do you know of anything in particular that might be...memorable...to Marina? Anything from her childhood that holds a lot of meaning to her? Maybe something like that would help."

Janet stepped away from Shay and sat down on the chair Marina had sat previously. She gave Shay's question some thought before frowning and shaking her head. "You...Must realize that Marina's childhood was very difficult. We- my husband and I- weren't exactly the best parents. My husband and I drank, and we fought, a lot. As such, she learned to shut people out, and didn't really let herself care about much. As far as I know, she didn't really care about much...Though she did have a fascination with fire when she was younger."

"Has she told you any of this?" Asked Janet, realizing that she had abandoned the sandwich she was going to make. She stood up and began putting the cheese on the sandwich.

Shay shook her head gently, sympathy in her gaze as she said quietly, "No, Marina's never really gone into much detail about her past to me. And I never questioned it because...well, I know from first hand experience how the past can be rather...painful."

She hesitated a moment, giving another soft sigh as she leaned back against the wall.

"I'm just having trouble thinking of things that would really have a positive effect in triggering her memory. I had really been hoping that her powers would, but...since that didn't quite work, I suppose there are a few other things I might be able to try..."

She really didn't know...and the more she tried to think of something, the more she felt the strain of stress. She couldn't help but wonder if this was the kind of thing that led 16-year-olds to become so overwhelmed that they turned to things like smoking or drinking. While Shay wasn't a big fan of either...she had done them both at least once. And suddenly her reasons for doing it back then seemed so stupid compared to the situation right now...and she wasn't about to risk her common sense just for a little relief. At least not yet.

Janet sighed when Shay said Marina never mentioned her past...She wondered what her daughter truly thought of her. She wouldn't be surprised if Marina hated her. Shaking away those thoughts, Janet looked at Shay again, "So, do you have any other plans?" She asked, not noticing the stressful air around Shay. She wasn't good at picking up emotions.

She finished making her cheese sandwich, and tore it in half, offering one to Shay.

((Maybe now is when Shay could start thinking of going to the demon for help in getting her memories back? Of course she shouldn't mention it to Janet, she'd fly off her handle XD)

Shay gently shook her head at the offered sandwich, not feeling very hungry at all at the moment.

"No thank you. I ate earlier," she said instead, figuring that would be a better excuse than the truth.

She thought for a long moment on what could possibly work in triggering Marina's memory...and one thought in particular kept nagging and nagging to the point where Shay wanted to scream. As much as she hated to think about it, the demon that possessed Marina did have access to her mind...and most likely her memory as well. Though she wasn't one for 'making deals with the devil' as it were, she realized that it might be the only possible way.

"I have a few," she said aloud, to answer Janet's question. "Give me a few days and something else might come to mind. I'll be sure to let you know if anything works, though."

Janet put the half of sandwich on the counter as she started on the first half. "I just have one request, and that's for you to keep me informed. I won't go sticking my nose into this, as I have a feeling it's between you and her, and I have no business interfering, nor do I think I would be much help if I did," She said, sounding slightly upset at the fact. She was Marina's mother, after all. She should be the one to be able to help, shouldn't she?

After finishing the first half of the sandwich, she eyed the second half. She wasn't really hungry anymore, but she didn't want it to go to waste. She was sure that they didn't have much money, so any bit that was wasted was bad. She resolved to throw the sandwich away, and leave some money.

She reached for her purse, and grabbed her checkbook and a pen. She filled it out and stood up and went over to Shay. "I'm sorry I couldn't give you more, but I've wrote you a check for three hundred," She said, handing the note to Shay. "Think of it as my way of helping, and an apology for wasting the second half of the sandwich."

Janet went over to the counter and grabbed the sandwich and threw it away. "I hope it helps," She said, smiling at Shay before turning and grabbing her purse. "I probably should be going," She said, sounding more than reluctant to go.

Shay couldn't help but stare at the check, stunned that Janet had written it out. As she turned to go, Shay quickly strode over to her.

"Wait...Mrs. Prescott...I can't accept this," she said quickly, trying to hand the check back to her. "I mean, if you want to give it to Marina, that's a different story...but I can't take your money."

She gave a small smile, adding, "Not that I don't appreciate what you're trying to do...but it's not my place to accept this."

She thought for a brief moment, then asked with a soft smile, "Would you like to go give it to Marina yourself?"

Janet couldn't help but smile, but she shook her head. "As much as I would like to see Marina, I couldn't bring myself to. It'd hurt too much knowing that she doesn't remember me...And as much as it pains me to say, I don't want to plant false memories of a loving mother in her head. She didn't think of me as a loving mother before, I don't want to manipulate her memories for when she finally gets them back, do you understand what I mean?" She asked quietly.

"And please, keep the check. As of right now, you're her guardian. Use it to take care of yourselves." She said, giving Shay a reassuring smile.

Shay honestly didn't know what to say. She'd never met her real parents...never had the chance to be close to her mother...and here she saw Marina's mother trying to take care for her daughter despite of past mistakes. It caused a small ache somewhere deep within Shay's heart...a longing for a mother's affection, something she herself never had.

"I...really don't know what to say," she said as she took back the check, watching Janet with gentle eyes. "I...thank you. Thank you so much for...for everything, really."

She paused a moment, before smiling and adding, "You know...Marina's really lucky to have a mom like you. Even though there may have been mistakes made in the past...aren't mistakes just part of being human?"

She put a hand gently on Janet's shoulder, smiling reassuringly.

"And I know that no matter what...Marina does love you. And I won't hesitate to remind her that you love her too. And, of course, continue to keep you posted as often as possible."

It was the least Shay could do, really...and she really wished there was something more she could do.

Janet couldn't stop the tears before they came. She turned away and wiped them off, "Listen to us, getting all emotional," She said with a small laugh, turning back around once the tears had been wiped away. "Thanks- It's Shay, right?" She asked. "Thank you for your words, they were really sweet. Marina's lucky to have someone like you, she really is. I regret ever trying to tear you two apart."

Any anger she had felt towards Shay was gone, replaced by a motherly sort of affection. She wrapped her arms around Shay. "Please take care of my daughter," She said, patting Shay on the back. She took in a shaky breath, feeling more tears come. "Please keep her safe...But please, don't put yourself in a situation you can't handle. Call me if things get bad."

She didn't let go of Shay for several moments. She wanted to show her that all was forgiven. She wanted Shay to know that she was there for her, just as much as she was there for Marina. "Please, watch over yourself as you would watch over Marina," She said, finally letting go of Shay and giving her a warm smile.

"I know I've made some mistakes in the past, and I'm trying to be a better person...I truly am, and that starts now," She said. She went over to her purse and grabbed a receipt from a grocery store and wrote her cellphone number on the back. "Here's my number," She said, placing it on the table. "Call whenever you'd like."

Words couldn't express Shay's surprise as Janet began to cry and actually pull her into a hug. The tears that Shay hadn't shed when Marina's mom had yelled at her suddenly came spilling down her face as she hugged her. It was the first time that any mother, aside from Agatha, had actually hugged her and let her know that they were there for her. It meant the world to her.

When Janet drew back, Shay gently wiped the tears from her face, smiling warmly at her.

"I...I will," she said with a slight sniffle. "I'll keep in touch as often as possible."

She accepted Janet's cellphone number, murmuring softly but genuinely, "And thank you, Mrs. Prescott...thank you so, so much...for everything. Please be sure to take care of yourself as well."
