((Continued from: A Much Needed Talk)) Once they were both outside (and a fair distance away from the house XP), Shay turned to Marina. "Alright...are you sure you're ready for this?" she asked with a slight smile, wanting to make sure that Marina was truly comfortable with experimenting with her powers...especially considering how dangerous they could be. |

As soon as they were outside, Marina stopped in front of Shay. "I think so," She said, unable to hide the nervousness in her voice. "I just don't want to hurt myself, or you. Or the yard. Maybe we shouldn't, I mean...It's fire, it burns things, and what if it burns something?" She couldn't help but ramble, unsure what else to do. "I'm sorry. I am. I mean I do. Want to, that is." |

Shay held up her hand to quiet her with a light laugh, smiling reassuringly. "Hey, don't sweat it. If things do...get a little out of control...I'll take care of it. Don't think about that, just focus on getting your powers down, okay?" She glanced around the yard for anything they could use as targets, though upon finding nothing she went for option B: she used her powers to turn a few fallen brances into small wooden gnomes. "Here, let's start with these," she said as she set them up on a small, half broken table that had been randomly discarded near the tree. "I think it'd probably be best if you got aim down first...but before we even get on to that, I want you to try something else first." She moved a few steps back, pulling Marina with her, until they were well out of reach of the tree or the roof. "Try to shoot a stream of fire into the air. It'll help you practice first how to control your powers and also help you to get comfortable using them again. Don't worry so much about your aim on this one or anything like that...just making your powers your own." |

Marina watched in amazement as the tree branches were turned into gnomes. She didn't think she would ever get used to something like that. When Shay explained what she wanted Marina to do, she hesitated a few seconds. How would she even make the fire, she wondered. She had no idea. Pushing the thought aside, she took in a deep breath. Concentrating on an image of fire, and what she wanted to happen, Marina raised her hand into the air, palm up. For a moment, she felt her hand get hot, but nothing else happened. "I don't think I'm doing it right," She said, lowing her hand. "I feel so silly," She muttered, folding her arms. "All that happened is I felt my hand get really hot for a split second, and nothing. What if I can't learn to use them again?" |

"Hey, that's a really good sign," said Shay encouragingly when Marina told her than her hand felt hot. "It's going to take practice, but you'll get the hang of it. Just keep trying." |

Marina sighed. She didn't want to have to stick her hand back into the air. It felt so weird, standing there with a hand in the air. But she did it anyway. She closed her eyes, concentrating on exactly what she wanted, as hard as she could. Her hand was getting hot, as if pressure were building up inside it. Suddenly the pressure was gone, feeling as if it had all went out of the palm of her hand, she looked up to see a stream of fire coming out of her hand. She went wide-eyed, before losing the concentration, ending the fire immediately. She was speechless. All she could manage was a quick 'wow'. |

"I'll say," grinned Shay as she watched the stream of fire shoot into the air. "Way to go, Marina; that was great!" Even though this really had little to do with regaining her memories (if anything to do with it at all) Shay still felt that this was a step in the right direction. "Do you want to practice that again or do you want to try to take out the gnomes?" |

"The gnomes," She said, "They're going down." She turned to face the gnomes, standing several feet back. Doing the same thing she had before, she thrust her hand forward, and a jet of flame shot out. Instead of hitting the gnomes like she had planned, the flames crackled out into the air. "Okay. That wasn't really meant to happen," She muttered. "That was just pitiful." |

Shay couldn't help but snicker quietly, what with Marina's declaration and yet the gnomes still remained standing. "Well, that was only the first shot," she said with a grin. "Remember, it takes time and practice. Try again." As an afterthought, she added with a smirk, "I mean, are you really going to let a gnome get away like that?" |

"Of course I'm not going to let it get away," She said, unable to stop herself from laughing. She repeated her previous actions, this time she willed the flame to go on, to strike the gnome, not to disappear into the air. The flame shot forward, missing the gnome by inches. "Sometimes I get the feeling that I used to be so much better at this," She said, rubbing her forehead. |

"Hey, the point is that you're getting better and better at it," Shay grinned. "Now show that gnome who's boss. You only just missed it last time...you can definately hit it this time. Send it back straight to gnome heaven." |

This earned another laugh from Marina. She then concentrated on the fire, and how she wanted it to go to the gnome. She felt the pressure building up in her hand, and then she thrust her palm forward, releasing the pressure as a flame. She willed it to go forward, to hit the gnome. It hit it spot on, scorching it and sending it toppling off the table. Not wanting to lose the moment, she sent another jet of flame at the other gnome, missing it by inches. She hadn't concentrated hard enough. With a flick of her finger, the flame reared back and hit the other gnome from behind, sending it forward off the table. |

Shay gave a loud cheer as she watched the flame successfully make contact with it's target, applauding as it flew off the table. "Nice shot! Way to go, Marina! Now try to--" Before she even had time to get the words out, Marina had already shot another flame at the second gnome. It missed at first, but Marina was able to manipulate the flame to curve, striking the gnome from behind. With a grin, Shay turned to Marina. "Two birds--well, gnomes, with one stone. Great job, Marina. How are you feeling about your powers now? Are you a bit more comfortable with them?" |

It took a moment for Marina to reply. She was too busy grinning at the charred gnomes. She finally looked at Shay, "I think I am," She said, folding her arms. "It's still a little...I don't know- weird, but I'm getting used to the idea. I guess I was just hoping this would help trigger some more memories, but...I guess not." She sat down on the ground lazily and leaned back on her hands. "Is there anything else you can teach me, or anything?" She asked, looking up at Shay. |

Shay smiled, glad that Marina was starting to feel a bit better with her powers and was able to access them again. The smile turned a bit more sympathetic, however, when Marina mentioned that she'd hoped her powers would trigger her memories. "Well, this is only just the beginning of using them again," she said reassuringly. "Maybe once you use them a bit more, something else will trigger." For a moment, a dark shadow passed over Shay's face, briefly wondering if Marina would remember being possessed to the point of attacking her that one day at school. She gave a light shake of her head. No...she wasn't even going to bring that up. Luckily Marina had spared her the awkward silence, asking her if there was anything else she could teach her. "I...really don't know," admitted Shay with a light smile. "Despite what they look like, my powers have nothing to do with fire...I really wouldn't know what to teach." She thought for a moment, then asked, "Was there anything in particular that you had wanted to know? I'm not sure if I'd be able to give you an answer or not, but I could see." |
