Name: Marina Prescott Age: Sixteen Gender: Female Personality: Marina is often cold and indifferent to those around her. She’s the type to speak her mind, and it’s often negative. If one had to describe Marina in a word, it would be “bitch”. Marina’s environment growing up wasn’t good on her view of the world, and people. She automatically assumes the worst in everything, and sees herself as superior to most people she meets. She has a short fuse, and when she’s made angry it’s best to leave her alone if possible. When angry, she’ll probably get physical with further provocation. Her anger tends to fuel her powers further, and this makes it easy for her to lose control of them. Marina isn’t a totally heartless person, however. When one makes it through her walls (and the girl has many walls), they’ll find she’s not as cold and bitchy as she leads everyone to believe. There’s a part of her that really does need someone to care about her, and for her to care (in her own way) about others. She’s also really insecure when it comes to her feelings, and even with friends she’ll start building more walls if things start getting tough- especially if she causes bad things to happen to people she cares about. Description: Marina has medium-ish (slightly above her shoulders) length, dark black hair, cut in a very choppy style. It’s usually messy, as she puts minimal effort in styling it and usually goes a few days at a time without washing it. She has brown coloured eyes, often narrowed in a glare and painted with jet black eyeshadow, and slightly full lips occasionally painted with black lipstick, though more often without. She’s of average height and weight, and her clothing style can be considered punk-goth. She likes baggy black pants with touches of red, and chains hanging from them, and longsleeve black shirts or hoodies. Her favourite pair of shoes are her steel-toed boots that she st- that she got at a really nice discount. For a better idea of what Marina looks like, see either my Avatar, or my Signature. Power: Marina has the abilities to create and control fire, primarily emanating from her hands, though she can generate it from any part of her body. She can shape the fire to her will, ranging from a simply jet of it, to complex shapes like cages of fire and beyond. She can also alter its temperature, making it burn hotter or even put it out, if it’s beginning to lose control (though if she’s at the point where it’s losing control, she’s probably past the point of being able to control it.) Her powers are heavily influenced by her emotions, primarily her anger. If she starts getting mad, her powers start acting up, which normally doesn’t end well for the subject of her rage. (Nor her, most times.) Previously, her powers would burn her hands every time she used them, but after being introduced by a friend to a powerful witch, a ring was created that stopped this nasty side-effect of her powers. History: Marina grew up in a poor and negative environment, in a single-wide mobile home in a dirty, and often dangerous trailer park. Her dad was never around, as Marina was the result of a one night stand gone wrong. From a young age, Marina was left to fend for herself as her mom worked half-assedly to pay the bills, though she invested far more time in her love life and as a result their water or electricity was off half the time, and Marina had to find food by herself. It was also at a young age that Marina learned to defend herself, both physically and mentally. Their neighbors in the trailer park were often violent, as were a few of the kids. Marina often found herself in fights with them, most of which she came out of the victor. Eventually most of them figured out not to mess with her, and she was left alone. It was around then that she started building up her personal walls, deciding she didn’t need friends and was better off being feared. Each day she would come home and her mom would be on the couch with another guy. Each day, she would say something smart-ass and ‘embarrass’ her mom (Pfft, as if her mom didn’t embarrass herself just by undressing), and she would be sent to her room. Shortly after, her mom would burst in and they would proceed to have an argument. After her mom left the room, Marina would open her window and push the damn cat off her windowsill that always liked to nap there, and sneak out. After sneaking out, she would go and hang out with her “friends” from school, which were just a few of the girls she hung out with and who she used to help her get alcohol or cigarettes, or the occasional pot. Overall, she didn’t give a shit about any of them and she knew for a fact they only hung out with her because they were afraid of her. Her mutant powers didn’t manifest until she was fourteen, when one night she got into an argument with one of the girls in her circle of ‘friends. Apparently the alcohol had finally made her get ballsy and question Marina over her leadership skills. This prompted Marina to get really angry, which caused her hands to start burning. It hurt, but she didn’t let the pain show as she glared fiercely at the group, who quickly ran away. When she finally calmed down (and sobered up a little), the flames died and left her hands blistered. When she got back home that night, Xavier was waiting for her. He explained who he was, what was going on, and offered her a place at the institute. Without even giving her a choice, her mom accepted and told her to pack her bags. She had no choice but to go with Xavier, and she made her protest known. -------------------------- Marina's Demon History: The exact origin of it is unknown. It’s speculated that it was created when her powers first manifested, but no one knows for certain. It’s first real appearance was at school, where it attacked Marina's then-boyfriend, Anthony. It appeared again multiple times, and caused quite a bit of damage, both physically and mentally. Finally with the help of a powerful witch who created a ring to stop the demon from being able to possess Marina, the threat is seemingly over. Powers: The full extent of its powers is unknown. During its attacks, it was shown to have powerful telekinesis, possible telepathy, immunity to most attacks, and a much more enhanced version of Marina’s fire abilities. |
