I just beat the snot out of Majora, thus concluding my time with The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. -The first three dungeons seem to follow the same basic theme of construction, as opposed to Ocarina of Time, which had more variety in dungeon construction. Not to say that Ocarina of Time had brilliantly varied dungeons, but it was certainly more varied than Majora's Mask. I still enjoyed the Majora's Mask dungeons, though. -The mini dungeons, like the Pirate Fortress and Ikana Castle, were all fun. The Gerudo Fortress in OoT is kind of a jerk and unforgiving, but the Pirate Fortress is fun to traverse and it's lenient. The Pirate Fortress even gives you a checkpoint halfway through, so that if you get caught, you don't have to do the whole thing over again. Also, it's fun to use the hookshot to zip zoom around the fortress. The hookshot has its fair share of downsides, but it's fun. -The three main masks are very tactile. For instance, Zora Link makes water tactile by letting you explore it in more detail than Link alone (though the Water Temple in OoT does a good job of this, too). In general, the masks are tactile by giving you several different ways to interact with different parts of your environments--different walking speeds, different jumping length, different attacks, and more. -The bosses are okay. I don't care for Zelda bosses in general, though. Wind Waker had some good ones. Whenever I think about OoT bosses, I just think of the terrible Water Temple boss. The final boss of OoT was... I dunno, it's among the better Zelda bosses, but I'm not sure what to think of it. It's just that their attack patterns are never interesting and the way to attack them is never interesting. Ganondorf in OoT is somewhat interesting, though, since you have to hit his own attack back at him with very precise timing. On the other hand, it seems unnecessary to require that you slash your sword at him afterwards--you do this for every other boss, it makes things really repetitive. For the Gyorg fight in Majora's Mask, you shoot boomerangs at it to stun it, then leap into the water and punch it. Rinse and repeat until it's dead. I need to play Wind Waker again to compare. I might have a bias here since I beat Wind Waker before OoT and MM. -The sidequests are fun. I went out of my way to do a few, but it turned out those were required anyway (like saving Romani's cows from aliens). In the past I haven't had fun with most Zelda sidequests, though I did enjoy the Triforce hunting in Wind Waker. Most of the time, I feel like sidequests are "bring back my 5 cuccos which are scattered about town" or "try to score 300 points in this frustrating horse archery game." I'm betting youse guys can prove me wrong, though, since I haven't tried the majority of sidequests in the games I've played. -Love the music. Edited by Golem, Jun 21 2010, 07:09 AM.

I wish they made more games like this. Easily the best Zelda game ever. Someone should get the nintendo folks on the phone and tell them if they made majora's mask 2, I'd buy it. We need more things like Anju/Kafei and Goron races! | |
