Yeah, perhaps that was a bit far. But come on. It's a Sonic game with levels that can take almost an hour to get through. How's that stack up? Obviously it's not really a pivotal game or anything. And nintf is still missing the point.

What is your point then, sir? Because right now, it just seems like all you do is really hate one particular franchise because it doesn't mesh with your personal tastes and has had, by my count, two really awful games. @#$%, what if you did this with Mario? Mario has WAY more awful games than Sonic. He just has way more games period. You don't like Sonic Rush, you don't like Sonic Unleashed, fine whatever, not everyone is supposed to like the same games. That doesn't make them bad. |

Actually, I should note that I played through Sonic Rush. It was an alright game. I'm not really thinking about old games, spinoff games, or anything like that. In their main line of games, Mario just came off a string of two classic games with Galaxy and Galaxy 2. Sonic came off of Sonic the Hedgehog '06 and Sonic Unleashed. It's not just me, either, take a look at the professional reviews. They're not reviewing on emotion and impulse, they're looking the technical aspects of the games and how well the complete package works. In addition to the recent releases, take a look at the concept of the games. Sonic is a platformer that holds speed as an ideal and puts such an emphasis on reaction time on the player, even from the 2D games were it was difficult to see what was coming up ahead, where springs can pop up and rocket you into a bed spikes at any second. It's a shaky concept to begin with, in addition to the two most recent subpar releases. I don't expect everyone to follow my line of thinking by any means. Like I said, everything has its audience, and though I won't call out an entire audience on fanboyism or anything like that, I'm certain that a certain subgroup of Sonic's following is for reasons other than the game's technical and ideological merits. |

Donkey Kong 3 didn't even have Mario, it had some guy named Stanley. And as for the others you mentioned, even though they don't fall under the Mario-adventure-type category, they're all good if you're in the target audience. From a technical perspective, they all do their job pretty well and if you're into that kind of genre of game, then you'll probably enjoy it. Unlike the Sonic-spin-offs which can't even pull off the technical aspects, flushing any chance of a positive experience down the toilet. I mean really, Sonic has generally been pretty poor in both the gameplay and technical aspects in recent times. I mean, as much as I enjoyed Sonic Heroes (which has been one of the higher rated Sonic games as of late), the game had so many technical problems (falling through platforms, crappy camera control, etc) that made the experience more of a pain than a pleasure at certain points. And to be honest, most people play Mario to play 'Mario', just as people who play Sonic generally try to play 'Sonic'. The 'true' Mario games (Super Mario Galaxy, New Super Mario Bros) have still remained true to themselves and 'good' in the process. You can't really say the same for the 'true' Sonic games, apart from perhaps Sonic Heroes (when the tech-stuff 'works') and the daytime Sonic Unleashed levels. But even if you do play a spin-off, if you look at what's available, it's not unimaginable to suggest that Nintendo puts in a much bigger effort to have their games 'work' than the Sonic Team does, so you'll generally find the Mario spin-offs a lot more reliable than the Sonic spin-offs (or at times, even the true Sonics). |

Nice. Nintenfreak, don't be ridiculous. Is anyone really counting spinoff games when talking about the quality of either series? Even if I were to factor in the Mario spin-offs they're (as Fanta said) of decent quality and are effective for their target audience, Sonic is not. it's pointless to compare the two as Mario obviously wipes the floor in this category. Mario gives us Mario Party. Sonic gives us Sonic Shuffle. Mario has Mario Kart. Sonic has.. Sonic Riders and others, none of which have received high acclaim. Just because Mario's games are in abundance doesn't make it bad, though I guess I can respect Sega for not whoring Sonic out as much. But instead of citing any of the really bad games i.e. Mario teaches Typing, Mario's Time Machine, or any of those stupid educational games, you say Mario sluggers and Mario advance (inferior ports of great games). Heck, if we're counting Yoshi's Story, you could have said that. Bottom line, Sonic Team hasn't delivered a great game in over 10 years while Nintendo has. It's not even close. |

Blah blah blah, I don't care, you're all insane. Also Donkey Kong 3 is still a main series Mario game, so yeah. Deal with it.
