The Battle Of New Orleans by Johnny Horton.

I'd rather have been born the year before, because at least I know the song from that year - All I Want To Do Is Dream by The Everly Brothers.

If it's the UK charts then it's Connie Francis "Who's Sorry Now" - if Hogfysshe is insisting on US charts then it's Sheb Wooley doing "Purple People Eater"

Right, well the UK chart has me down as:

A Fool Such As I / I Need Your Love Tonight - Elvis Presley

(Are those supposed to be related?)

^o)

This one is multinational...

Oh Dr S, you are making me feel old. I remember Grandad being No 1 on Top of the Pops and My Sweet Lord was the first 45 rpm I ever bought, one Saturday morning after an away game of hockey. It had a Granny Smith in the middle.

That Venus planet, would it be my recommended/foretold place to go to, or am I already coming from there... or does Frankie Avalon mean "Venus" in some other way? :ermm:

"Poor Me" by Adam Faith.

I note that "Running Bear" by Johnny Preston became number one the day after I was born. I still have a lot of time for that song, especially as it was used in the film "Scandal" - somewhat reminiscent of some of the cover art of "Gatekeeper" he he
