Basically all females from all races (covered by OKCupid) tend to prefer White men. http://scienceblogs.com/gnxp/2009/10/patterns_of_response_rates_on.php http://scienceblogs.com/gnxp/2009/10/birds_of_a_feather_flocking_to.php |

I think that these particular women who prefer white men don't fully comprehend what drives them to these men, but I bet if they actually did sit down and ruminate awhile about that the ideal they have in their mind about white men, or any group of men that some women might idealize for that matter, would collapse. And it was interesting that this article noted a stronger awareness of race from women. It reminds me of a scene where there are some female dancers in a powder room, each one critiquing, and sometimes harshly, the features of the girl next to her. Petty stuff to me, but it seems very important to (some) women. |

It's surprising that even black women preferred White guys. Even ignoring black females' opinion of White men in the media, black females I knew personally thought of White guys as lame, unmanly, unfashionable, etc. From an urban/Hip Hop cultural point of view, which I saw through in earlier times, many groups thought of White guys that way, including many SE Asian groups. I saw with my own eyes that they were not preferred. But maybe here we are dealing with an older, more professional female pool. |

That's a good point. I would hazard to guess that this article is mainly catering to a late twenties-early thirties age group whose ideals are better aligned with those of their parents. Many women younger than this, in my experience, seemed indifferent to a notion of 'white males are better'; rather what I found was that his ambition/education/positive financial situation were better draws than his race. Subcultural tastes also need to be factored in. I sense not altogether incorrectly that the aesthetic ideals of the hip-hop world differ in many important ways from those of for example the pop or black metal worlds, for both genders, traditionally-speaking, though there are exceptions. |

I'm not sure what is the author doing to get into that conclusion? I wonder what "correlation rate" he is taking, as there are only a very small number of data for each cell (basically only one group to other and then the converse). And also the female-female and male-male responses are not found in the previous 2 tables. There are also no table entry for same-gender same-race. And then, actually the bigger table below doesn't actually show White to be the most preferred for each race? (note: Bolds are female, Italics are male, so the column with the most of the biggest values are actually white males with other males) The numbers are overall, quite small [most of them <25%], except for Whites. Note that these are about "strong preference", therefore data that show "slight preference" are basically ignored. Edited by qrasy, Oct 29 2009, 08:55 AM.
