Don't let the title fool you. This is not a thread about a clash of races or civilizations. Besides battling each other, the Indo-European and Altaic nomads shared many common cultural motifs, as well as engaing in intermarriage and alliances. In fact, many of the "ethnic" groups of the steppes were conglomerations of people from divergent sources. The melting pot on the Eurasian Steppes during the population expansions after the last ice age (after ~10,000 years ago) can be confusing. This post/thread will try to keep a detailed and accurate introductory list of the various Indo-European branches and sub-branches that dwelled in the steppes. Tocharian and Yuezhi 1. You fooled me. ... Saka/Scythians are most likely IE. They look "Caucasoid" in contemporary paintings and wear hats simmilar to those of other IE groups like Persians/Medes and Phrygians (though Yakutians, a Turkic group, also use somehow simmilar hats). Your linked article cast no doubt about that but rather the opposite. They were probably the last nomadic IEs of the steppes that gave them birth. Turkic peoples would take over that ecological niche after them. ... Your link on the Wusun (what's that?) is broken.
