How do you think the policy for this should go? How early should it begin? Should it be abstinence only? Should condoms be passed out? Sex Ed began for me as early as fifth grade. There was just a generic "health" class where we also learned about drugs. It was the same stuff hammered in every year straight up until high school. The teachers were very strictly absistence-only, and essentially said to us "If you have premarital sex you will get herpes and then aids AND THEN GET PREGNANT AND THEN YOUR BABY WILL DIE, but yeah once you're married you can fuck each other's brains out, it's cool". Not in those words but that was the message. I have a feeling I wasn't the only one that called bullshit on all these transparent scare tactics since soon after everyone started fucking and doing drugs like crazy. There were a lot of pregnant students and I feel like if these sex ed teachers had calmed down and taught us some proper birth control it could be avoided. Speaking of which, birth control was hardly mentioned at all. The focus was just on STDs and the different ways you could catch all of them. Pregnancy was kind of shuffled aside. I suppose they were naive enough to believe they could actually stop us from having sex. The kids are gonna do it anyway, their bodies are telling them to after all. So why not teach them how to do it safely? Didn't help at all that the usefulness of the condom was really really downplayed. Whenever they mentioned it they talked about how it wasn't 100% reliable and drilled that into our heads. I bet some kids just thought, "Hey, it doesn't work anyway so why bother?", which is dangerous. |

Sexual Education should start in the 5th or 6th grade. That's generally AROUND the time puberty starts kicking in for a lot of students. Abstinence is so unbelievably retarded. I don't believe you should just give away your, erm, "innocence" to anybody, but I think if you believe who you're going to have sex with is a good guy/girl, then go for it. You don't have to be married to someone to love someone or have sex with them. Just because you're married to someone and fuck doesn't mean you're magically immune to all STDs. It's more of a morality issue. It should be taught with no bias, meaning keep out your personal opinions on abstinence, and just teach the facts. Teach them about STDs, but say that you can prevent them with a condom, although the chance a condom works isn't 100%. I don't know what birth control actually does to be honest, but I know that a "morning-after pill" "aborts" the "egg" or whateva. Maybe you were being taught by Catholics, because I know they're against that shit. |

Yeah it's weird. The way they talked about it made it seem like marriage was about sex. No shit on this example, the teacher said that if you got AIDS your spouse or partner would leave you because the spouse would refuse to have sex with you and the partner wouldn't marry you because s/he couldn't have sex with you. |

It wasn't really that bad. But it wasn't effective at all at its goals, which is why my school ended up with so many pregnancies. |

Agreed, just teach the facts. Let the students believe what they want to believe. |

we have it in our health classes. half a year in middle school, half a year in high school. (sophomore year, i havent taken it yet) they focus mostly on how marijuana will kill you and lsd gives you flashbacks (oh, wait, they called it 'lcd') and how pcp is made from dead bodies and how cigarettes are 99 percent RAT POISON oh yeah by the way kids you have a vagina or a penis dont have sex or you will contract aids and die now back to the evil world of drugs there needs to be an erowid for 'sexual education' so that way people can at least learn from someone who isnt trying to instill their bunk religious values and views of what OUR nation should be onto you |

jesus calm down My HEALTH CLASS was just like you guys were saying. The teacher didn't say anything about not having sex, and talked a lot about protection. So cool. I guess I'm lucky? There was a health class I had in 7th grade too. Honestly I think that class was similar to tal's experience where I don't know if the teacher knew a lot about sex and talked a lot about stds. Though she still went over protection and how to say no if you're not ready. I think that STDS, protection, and saying NO TO SEX are the things that are most important about sex ed, and is probably all that should be taught along with... anatomy. There was a sex ed class in 5th grade I did and all I remember is us talking about where the penis goes. Maybe STDs were too intense for us.
Well you can believe that you won't get aids by taking a diseased cock up your bum but that's not going to change anything. |

Yes it's obviously because of Canadian influence and not that I live in a liberal community that values education. No sir, no such thing exists in the United States. I'm guessing those are community college fees... does that take into account the money you pay per credit and them books? |
