Oh lawd
I finally figured out why I hate the me tag so much!

Because only attention whores use it.

its basically saying LOOK AT ME!!! rather than making a useful comment.
Even if someone says something funny and you go

*Iron Angel laughs so hard he falls out of his chair

Thats still being an attention whore because you insist on holding an all out war on my retinas with bold red text and third person speaking. In chatrooms its fine, but chatrooms have anywhere between 20-60 messages a minute; we have maybe 20-60 posts a day.

The me tag should be completely removed. it serves no purpose except to be annoying. I havent seen anyone make good use of it yet. And I know I'm going to get some rocket scientist whose going to reply to this in a *[me tag, because someone out there is going to think its funny.

I wasn't actually using the /Me tag with the intent of being some kind of an attention whore. Yes /Me tags are pretty useless as users can make their own little /Me tags by typing in the following:
Code:

*[b][color=#000000]username[/color][/b] does something.

*Punk summons the heavy metal gods.
*Punk listens to His Infernal Majesty.

But yeah, I was not using it as a way of saying "look at me" if that's what you're thinking.

When you're doing it you're talking in third person AND putting emphasis on the name by making it bold and white, a bad combo. If you go 'ima gonna kill you' or even '*kills IA*' it's less annoying.

Yeah, like that. I know it wasnt an intention punk but it comes off that way. its just annoying to me for some reason, no matter who uses it. Also jassi, not usre if that was sarcasm, but if it was, I was using it as an example.

Do you realize that the tag is mostly used by people who are trying to mock people who use it? If people stopped using it to mock people using it, you would see the tag about 20% as much.

One of the reasons why I use the /me tag alot is because I've grown accustomed to chatting with other users on Internet Relay Chat than forums or instant messengers. I thought it was better than *looks at Chucklee long and hard and then throws a pie at his face*

I'd rather you post a shock image than say anything related to throwing pies, sighing, or looking long and hard at people.

The only fair use of the me tag I can think of would be roleplaying, but we don't do that quite as much as we used to. : /

I think I figured out something myself. The people who make topics just to criticize someone else's posting style are, in fact, trying to draw attention to themselves. For some reason, they feel the urge to post a topic about how they figured out why something bother them or that it's simply annoying them. They could always use the pm to tell the person that their posting style annoys them.

Yeah, I was using sarcasm. Mainly to the reference of how you capitalized your m in Me. ^_^

Punk's not the only person abusing it, tho.

It's pretty much only Punk that uses it. Hakkt does a little, too, but they are the only two I can think of. But, in all seriousness, look at the whole concept. The person gives a long tirade on why something bothers them. It's kind of like saying, "HEY! LISTEN TO WHAT I HAVE TO SAY ABOUT SOMEONE ELSE TRYING TO GET ATTENTION!" Really, does the tag bother ANYONE that much? And, if it does, what the heck is their problem?
