Oh dear me. You're all correct. Oh, whatever shall I do? I cant believe I posted spam. What an awful rotten horrible thing to do, especially in the SPAM FORUM. I dont delete spam in the spam forum for a reason. Because its the SPAM FORUM! Otherwise there would be quite a few deleted topics, posts, and accounts. (Because three warns is adequate for a ban.) In other words, stop crying that I'm deleteing your spam. You want to spam? I have nothing against it. But do it in the spam forum. If you spam anywhere else I'm going to delete it, pure and simple. Also, about the spam parade. I've done it I think twice, and only about 12-15 posts each time (It just seems like more because its annoying- I know how annoying it is, thank you). Just to fill up a page. But you know what? I've done it only in the SPAM FORUM. Thx. |

I highly doubt we're ever going to come across a conclusion to this because what is considered spam is considered off of opinion. Opinions are never the same, so the best way to handle this, is to stop you moanin' and groanin' and live with it. Also, I thought Chucklee had a pretty good question, and everybody ignores him. I would have thought that the mods could have answered it for him, but, meh, whatever.

it depends. If its a comment that derails the convo then yes. However, if the remark wont lead off topic, then no. |

i don't like your definition. SPAM should be just random crap like "dfasfsafsa" in a post or "blblabla" |

But, if spam was just stuff like that (dfasfsafsa & blblabla), it could annoy the person who created the post who has a bunch of off-topic jibberish in his thread when he'd prefer they discuss what he originally put forth. |

So, uh, we're in a Halo topic, and someone makes a post about how the plasma rifle sucks more than michael jackson, or something like that. Then the topic starts going into being about michael jackson. Is the person who made the plasma rifle comment the one that's going to be punished? In fact, let's make that question bigger. Let's say someone DOES make a comment that derails the topic. But what if people start participating in the new topic without the original topic really being discussed? Then what if in that topic it's derailed back into the original topic? What if it's suddenly 2 topics in the same place? I mean what do you consider the difference between progression and derailing, IA? Because http://z6.invisionfree.com/kamainsworld/in...opic=8793&st=45 kind of brings that question up. |

Well my point is that of tal's, though the way he says it makes much more sense and sounds better But anyway. IA it's not that you spammed in the spam forum, it's that you FLOODED in the spam forum. |

Tal does make a good point... But, the second part of his post seems to off a bit... Because, if somebody makes a post that causes other posts to be on topic, I don't see what's wrong with that... Then again, I think Tal's second part of his post just confuses me... BUT, I still have something important to say. Anyways, when somebody makes a post that's on topic (Person 1), and other people take the post the wrong way and start posting off topic (Person 2), I think that Person 1 shouldn't have his post deleted for what Person 2 did.

I dont think any posts need to be deleted. Who cares about spam anyways? Especially on THIS forum? Nobody here cares, or should care, because it so small, it's not like 1 off-topic post is gonna keep you from finding a post you want to read. Everyone just needs to get over the spam, and act like they were before everyone started getting so obsessed about it. |

Well THEN the topic gets SPLIT. it doesnt just get deleted. But if someone says the plasma rifle sucks more than micheal jackson (Which it doesnt) and people start talking about micheal jackson, then the people talking about micheal jackson are at fault. That post is on topic and humorous, but not necessarily a derail. However a post like 'Which sucks more, the plasma rifle or Micheal Jackson?' That post is obviously intended to bring up an alternate topic- thats a derail. It counts as spam and gets deleted in order to stop it from going further. However, if a mod doesnt catch it fast enough and it DOES turn into a new topic, it gets split. Tadaa! As for the bigger question, I think it stands to reason that the topic will be... SPLIT, like I said. It gets split again if that happens. Of course thats only if a mod doesnt catch these posts and start deleting them. If its 2 topics in the same place? IT GETS SPLIT! Derailing: A derailing comment is a comment made by a single person that suddenly shifts the topic to something different. Progression: Progression is the slow movement from one topic to the next by multiple members. |

IA, why don't you start asking the topic creator if they care? If they get involved in the "off-topicness" then they obviously don't care, so you don't need to delete anything. and if you ask anybody if they care, 95% of the people will say no they don't care if theres spam in the topic. |

Split? How do you split the topic? The derailing and progression definitions seem awfully similar... And the link was never adressed. |

Derailing: A derailing comment is a comment made by a single person that suddenly shifts the topic to something different. Sounds a wee bit closer to that. And it happened several times, and even with a couple topics going on at a time, with no split or deletions. And...guess what... That topic went along FINE. |

Actually it went from the use of the language to why the british were angsty about it and then went to america and britain in ww2, which somehow turned into mcdonalds topic. Its not like they were going 'Hey america was in world war two. And britain has mcdonalds, but they dont eat there a lot.' It gradually turned into that. |

No, it was pretty much me saying 'Well we saved Britan in the war', and then it turned into ww2, and then after Alc said that one of the perks of America was McDonalds it flopped to Mcdonalds just like that. There was no 'gradual' change. |
