To begin, I'll note that I am using the Postality version of RMXP. I've used the 'Skip Title Screen' script that is placed within this forum, and am attempting to build my own title menu in place of this after a short intro FMV (Well, as much an FMV as you can get). I find trouble with this. I understand that what I am looking to build is very similar to a Custom Menu System (CMS) in RM2k or RM2k3, however I am sure there is some better way. Perhaps using scripts is the key, or some other clever coding, I do not entirely know. I know and understand the basics of how to get myself started - having been a maker of RM2k and RM2k3 games for some time - though I ask if any may be able to help me, guide me, or simply point me in the direction of something that may aid in a better appearance. |

If you dont know, don't post. Stop driving for post counts. The only reason I clicked on this topic was because I thought that it was in the 2k or 2k3 forums, and I knew the answer to it. I skimmed over Elblais post, saw him mention 2k and 2k3, so I thought that was what he was talking about. I typed out an explanation, about to press Add Reply, and then I went back and actually read what he wrote. Seeing that I wasted my time explaining something to someone that wanted me to explain something totally different, and I didn't want to have wasted five minutes on absolutely nothing, I didn't press the Back button, and instead just wrote the first thing that came to mind, which is "I have no idea". I guess it was partly because yes, I'm driving for post counts, but also because I don't like it when I make a topic and there's no replies, even for a certain amount of time, and I didn't want to have entered a topic and not have replied, even if what I have to say isn't helpful at all, because I consider it rude not to reply. I also posted because I want to become more familiar on the boards, or become more welcome. Evidently I'm going about it the wrong way. ~This post brought to you by my mad drive for post counts~ |

Well, Tagas, I must say that even though your intention is all well and good - You are right when you say you are going about it the wrong way. 'Driving Post Counts' is pointless in my opinion, and when you do so many of your posts seem pointless too. This does not look good on you. You say you wish to become 'familiar to the boards' and 'more welcome'. That definitely comes in the quality of what you say - not how many things you say. Be careful. Do not let your need to be accepted cloud your respect for other people. Regardless - if you wish to discuss that, take it PMs or another topic. That was not the intention of this thread. |

That definitely comes in the quality of what you say - not how many things you say. I've come to learn that the more you post, the better chance you have of being spotted. The less you're known, or the less post counts you have, you have a higher chance of being treated like an idiot who doesn't know the rules, or just like an idiot in general. But perhaps I'm misjudging the community here, seeing as I am new to the new boards. I knew the community better when it was back at ezboard, but here is a totally new group of people. Again, I'm probably misjudging people here, but nevertheless, I'll continue posting at the current rate that some consider post driving because that's just the way I am. Do not let your need to be accepted cloud your respect for other people. If people don't accept me, then fine. Although I really wouldn't mind if I was accepted. But I never disregard the way other people feel and the such. I try to be as polite as possible, unless I really hate someone, in which case I try to cut off their fingers and store them in little bags in my basement freezer. <_< 'Driving Post Counts' is pointless in my opinion, and when you do so many of your posts seem pointless too. This does not look good on you. I'm not really driving for post counts, I was being sarcastic in my last post (I should've made it more obvious though). However, if people think that that's what I'm doing because of a few random or useless posts every now and then, then so be it. That was not the intention of this thread. How true. I apologize for continuing this discussion in the first place, and for causing a discussion that really has nothing to do with the question you asked. But to make this post not completely wasteful, ask Alastyr, he seems to know according to some people |

Ask me for help? lol, I was posting here to help when I had to leave... ha ha. Ok, here we go. (all events should be Paralell Process, make sure the menu is disabled) In order to create a new title screen, first you need to make some picture graphics for the Title of your game, the new game button, and the continue button. Settng up the Menu Now, in the map that your character starts on, create a new event that shows each picture in the spot you want. You can have them fade in by making them appear at 0 transparency then moving them to 255 in 20frames or so. Put 'Erase Event' at the end. Cursor Control Next you will need a new event to control the cursor. The first page is the cursors default positon. Have it appear near the New Game picture. You may even want it to spin or flash. Create a new page. This page will require a switch to activate, name it 'Selecting' or 'Transition' or something along those lines. This event will make the cursor dissapear and then reapear by the 'continue' picture. Then turn 'Selecting' off and turn on a new switch named 'MenuSelect2' Create another page. Have it require 'MenuSelect2' as a precondition. This event should be exactly like the first page, except change the picture coordinates so that it is near the 'Continue' picture instead of 'New Game' Create yet another page. It should requre both 'MenuSelect2' and 'Selecting' to be turned ON. Make this event be similar to page 2 except, it should move the cursor back to the 'New Game' picture. Button Control Make a new event. This event will check the buttons pressed and act on them. On page 1, make a conditional branch that requires the 'Right' button (or whatever direction 'Continue' is in relation to the 'New Game' pic) to be pressed. Do not have an else case. Inside the conditional, turn 'Selecting' to ON. Beneth that, create another branch that requres button 'C' to be pressed. Inside, erase all pictures and teleport the hero to the indroduction map. And set the main menu to allow. On page two, make it requre 'MenuSelect2' to be turned ON. Make the conditional branches as on Page 1, however use the reverse direction for the first branch and change the teleport command in the second to a call script command. Put the following in that script:
If you want, you may put a conditional on both pages that checks for button 'B' Put a Call Script command that uses this code:
[size=7]Overview[/size] Event 1: Show Pictures
Event 2: Cursor Control page 1 and page 2 are when the cursor is still, it may be any code page 3 and page 4 move the cursor to the other command. Page 3 moves from New Game to continue and page 4 does the reverse. Event 3: Button Control Page1
Page2
Hope that helped, if you want to see it in action just download the second demo of Legend of Aetheria in the Plug your Game section. |

I've added a link to this topic in the Index of Scripts section as a Custom title screen tutorial... for future reference. Glad I could help you both.

A question - instead of teleporting the Hero to another map on the selection of the 'New Game' option, could it lead into a transition on the same map without messing up the menu? In other words, is it possible to place other 'cutscene' actions on the map without messing up the menu? I ask because you made a particular point to 'End Event' on the event that showed the pictures. |

I erased the event so that the cursor could move freely. As for that... if you want to make a new seperate menu, you could have that on another map, but I'm not entirely sure by what you mean... from what it sounds like, it seems possible. |

I just want to add a Cutscene as one of the options from the menu. Though, as you said, it seems possible. |

It is possible. To make a new menu command, you will need to change the the cursor event and button control event. You seem to understand eveything, so I'm guessing you know how to do all this... if you need any help, just ask. |
