2 Days to Vegas
New Steel Monkeys game hints at what next-generation graphics may be like. Screens included.
by Ivan Sulic

April 28, 2005 - Best known for their work on Corvette, Bob the Builder, Master Rallye and Baja, the 40 plus Belarus-based developers at Steel Monkeys are currently working on a new project, titled 2 Days to Vegas.

According to the official Steel Monkeys website, some guy named Vinny has a problem. In 2 Days to Vegas, players take control of this newly freed convict fresh off a three-year stretch. Vinnie dreams a quiet life and some time with his girl, but his inconsiderate younger brother, Tony, got himself into a load of trouble and now needs to be bailed out. Vinnie to the rescue!

The official description reads something more like,

2 Days To Vegas is a story driven 3rd person action-adventure game. The thrill-a-minute story is crammed full of car chases, shootouts and unexpected twists, to keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the game. The action is set in several major cities across the USA and takes place during an intense 48 hour period. This game has it all, a gripping story of contemporary gangster life combined with thrilling car chase action and an intense race against the clock.

Here's the kicker...the game looks freaking unreal. The "screenshots" that have been released thus far are absolutely ridiculous. The one of the parked gray truck simply cannot be in-game. It's just that good. Most people who see these images don't believe they are real, but some of the media were labeled as screenshots, so we have to take Steel Monkeys' word for it. If the next-generation of consoles and PC graphics cards truly are as powerful as they're being made out to be, then visuals like these should certainly be possible.

While no publisher or release specifics have been announced, we expect to learn more about the still super mysterious 2 Days to Vegas at this year's Electronic Entertainment Exposition in May of next month. Until then, do yourself a favor and check out the attached media.

Now for the screenshots.

Wikipedia Entry On Maury

After the video, with the female often further enraged or upset, the male will walk onto the set; he will usually be booed loudly by the audience. The male will typically react in a "you-don't-know-me" mannerism, showing confidence that he is not the father. A picture of the baby juxtaposed with a picture of the male will appear on a video screen, to which the female will usually say how she thinks they look similar, and the male will say how they do not look alike at all. One common occurrence is that each person will claim that he or she is beyond 100% (often 200% or 1,000%) sure that the man is/is not the father, with figures sometimes reaching as high as 1,000,000% (the highest this has it gone is "infinity-plus 1 percent", in the show aired on November 20, 2007 when a participant named Natasha (surname unknown) claimed to be "infinity-plus 1" percent sure that a man was the father of her child (The DNA test then proceeded to prove her wrong) [3]).

And thus we fall into the uncanny valley...

There's a theory that robotics design has been basing itself off of for a while now. It states that as you get closer to lifelike, people will accept it more, but if you get it exactly lifelike with something just a little off, people will be repulsed by it. Like imagine a person that didn't open up their mouth correctly when they spoke. Right now the graphics ARE very lifelike, but they're a little off somehow. I can't accept those graphics, and I probably won't be the only one.

Looks like a pic tha someone use a photosop filter on. But, if they are real, this I beat this game will be all about the grahpics.

You're probably right. I doubt the other next-gen games will have graphics this good... I dunno tho.

watch it be all crappy in-game. The graphics will look like GTA: SA (Not that i'm saying it isn't good, but it's nothing compared to those screenies)

The true question is... will the games for these systems be any good? Or will it just be like 1 in 20 games is worth your money? That is the problem with xbox, ps2, and gamecube...
