So yesterday during the school morning, my friend Josh was telling me how this chick in his homeroom has the hots for me, or so what she said. I was stunned for a few seconds, because this was probably the first time someone called me hot. Even Josh noticed my few seconds of confusion. When I finally caught up with this, I knew I would have to do something. Josh already had planned to get her to meet me. I was nervous already. I have never seen this person around, so it'll be awkward. Now it was earlier today, as I'm walking about to the gazebo during lunch, just finishing my crappy meal at the cafeteria. Before I could even walk up into the gazebo, Josh stops me right in my path, put his hands on my shoulders (with all seriousness), and tells me that this chick was nearby to meet me. I'm thinking in my mind, "Crap, here we go." I ask him to tell me which one in our quiet conversation. She was 3-4 meters away, in a small group with her friends. She wasn't the prettiest around, but she was good enough; I'm thankful. I turn away, not looking in her direction. Josh tells me to walk up to her and start a convo, but even I know that would be awkward to walk up to someone you don't know and start talking. I felt like I would be rushing it; he thought I was going slow. I told him, "Seeing her is good enough for one day." He's okay with that, but for only a minute. Suddenly, he calls her over. He wants progress. "Aw crap," I'm thinking. Their little group walks over, and, in just seconds, I realize that Josh is the king of starting awkward conversations. She had nice eyes; shy just like me. More adorable than pretty or cute. Josh introduces her to me, and I try (nervously) to casually say along the lines of, "I haven't seen you around here." I probably sounded real nervous, cause I was. Thank God it was a group, or it would've been more awkward. She said a few words back. Every now and then, as the group started conversations, we would exchange some words. Suddenly, she asks if I was planning to go to the back-to-school dance. "I could," I responded, since I wasn't planning to beforehand. She sounded disappointed, but all of a sudden, without even the approval of my mind, I watched myself slip out, "I was planning to go to the movies tomorrow night, though." Immediately, I was slightly stunned over what my subconscious blurted out. She said she couldn't, because she had plans with her friends. "Damn. All that for nothing." As minutes went by with the group (including Josh) having conversations, I started to slightly feel better. But then, Josh starts to keep making us have conversations and talk about ourselves to each other. Awkward enough huh? Having nothing to say at the time, I resorted to what I was thinking for words. I started to feel like I was in my regular group of friends. I was happy and casual for a few seconds when I point at Josh and told her, "As you can obviously see, Josh doesn't realize that I'm really shy." This girl cracked a smile. Soon enough, the bell rung. She had to go in a different building than me, so we had to split up. Josh immediately comes over to me, before I can take 5 steps, to go give her a casual hug. At first I stood there a few seconds, thinking if I really should. Thankfully she was still there; I went up to her, told her that I'll see her later, and gave her a one-arm side hug. I walked away towards my building, and Josh comes up to me, where I immediately asked in a funny, relieved manner, "Am I doing it right?" He told me I was doing good. So I sat there in my English III class with everyone, wondering why I'm not excited or thrilled about this girl liking me; I was only settle and calm. My day didn't feel different; I felt like I was a zombie. Maybe I really have been depressed all this time, I thought, or I'm still not confident. I then started to wonder, If we start going out and then break up some weeks/months later, would have it all been worth it? Josh was confidently saying to classmates around how I was getting my "mac" on (whatever that means), which included David and Kyle. Kyle told me that he saw what she looked like. I knew what he was going to say, or what he was thinking. She wasn't all that pretty. The class ended, it was time to go home. As Kyle and I walked towards our bus, I told him about how I'm only sticking with this because I hardly ever have a girl liking me. It's also probably because I'm hoping to progress in something when it's all over. As I sat on the bus, before it took off towards home, I finally began to feel different. Something changed, but I couldn't tell what. I still don't know what it was. Confidence? Overall emotional state? No clue. Hopefully this girl and I will progress this relationship in the upcoming week, where I'll probably ask her to go to the movies or something. |
