Why am I still here?

Yes, or no? I believe that while it is a nice idea it seems like a program that can not be sustained because people live a long time after retirement and may end up taking out more than they put in. The government will also spend the money on other stuff (hey, look, a war!), wasting what has been paid in. If people did not put so much into SS they could save up or be wasteful little shits and reap what they show. People need to learn how to be responsible with money and I believe a slow end to SS would allow that. I say slow because I think people who have paid in considerable amounts should still receive benefits and then those who helped pay for them should still get some. the phasing out would probably involve a temporary tax hike, but stuff has to be done. People who paid in deserve to get their benefits. Again, I think if people learn how to save their money and be responsible with it they may be more likely to electing candidates who are...fiscally responsible (I don't mean republican/conservative). There is also the whole if people save money then the economy may be more stable. Note, the last views on human nature/economy are hopeful/optimistic, but whatever. |
