The Stimulus Package

Why am I still here?
I'll start off first by saying I have not followed this too closely, but off what I do know I am a little peeved. Here is why:

1) The republicans refusal to play ball, instead just repetitively pitching the same 'tax breaks!!one!" idea.
2) The idea that $300 billion of the package is going to us, the people. *censored* that. That just means their kids will have to pay for it. That is just a waste. Focus the money on creating jobs.
3) The damn pork. What does a $75 million stop smoking rehabilitation have to do with this? Why is the government even allowed to do that kind of thing in the first place (I hate cigarettes, but it isn't the governments job to get people to quit).
4) The democrats. For, even though they are getting no cooperation from the republicans are still trying to keep it bi-partisan. *censored* it. If they won't cooperate just take out all they stuff they want. If they come to the table, go bipartisan. Until then, you have the votes to pass whatever the *censored* you want, just don't try to add in little goodies for your states/districts. that is bullshit.
5) The fact that I am not an economist. I really wish I was so then I would have a better grasp of the whole situation besides what I get told from the media, aka "this shit is bad".

You can thank the Democrats for not having the GOP go with it.

Why the hell should a Republican vote for a package with so much pork in it.

Couple million dollars are going to "remove fishnets in rivers so the salmon can swim freely".

What garbage.

Actually that is creating jobs, and that is the point of the stimulus.

The republicans opposed it because there was infrastructure spending. They wanted only tax cuts, and I guarantee that would be full of pork as well.

Definition of Socialism: Socialism refers to a broad set of economic theories of social organization advocating public or state ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods, and a society characterized by equal opportunities for all individuals, with a fair or egalitarian method of compensation.

Sounds like Roosevelt to me. =/

Burned makes a valid point.

While I won't dispute FDR was a good president. I think his programs alleviated the symptoms rather than cure the proverbial cold.

<_< I'll make another point. Continued deficit spending got us here in the first place. When you deficit spend, you must also pay back. :dizzy: That's the basics of the economic policies we run. What happened to keynesian economics? Did we just throw out his "second part" to his economic plan?

FDR is one of the most overrated presidents in American history.

And everything about this bill makes me sick. Every single darn thing.

Problem with Keynesian Economics:

1) People refuse to elect people who promise to raise taxes. Raising taxes in required for this process to work.
2) Officials will not decrease spending, because decreased spending means they don't get as much as they want into their district or the programs they support, and they will get them removed on the next election cycle.

Keynesian Economics is a good concept, in concept, but its just one of those things that people *censored* up.

Yes, the war did pull us out of recession, but FDR's programs did create jobs, and to get out of a depression you need jobs. FDR's programs did help.
