I hate what they have done to Luigi

Where to begin...

Most of the Mario games on NES and SNES had both Mario and Luigi in them. Luigi was his brother's equal back then, and it was great. Hell, he was known for jumping higher than Mario in a few games back then.

Now comes the N64. Oh sweet, Mario 64. ...Luigi isn't there, he isn't even mentioned or anything, like he never existed. Oh sweet, Paper Mario, that's a new style of game. ...Luigi is there, but he hardly does anything, and even after his constant hinting at wanting to join Mario in his adventure, he is left behind after being told to "watch the house". He still appears in some games, like Mario Kart and the original SSB, but that's pretty much it. He's there not because it's great for him to be there, it's just because it wouldn't make sense NOT having him there.

Now comes the gamecube. Alright! One of the first games on it has Luigi as the main character! Awesome! ...not. Luigi's Mansion was an extremely average game, and it changed Luigi forever. They turned Luigi into a coward. I know, Luigi was already a bit more cowardish than Mario in the shows and all. But look at him now! The first cutscene you see him in in Brawl, he's trembling in fear in front of a freaking Waddle Dee. He also often close his eyes in fear during his attacks. He's always afraid of everything.

Luigi is now a coward always associated with ghosts who will be in his brother's shadow even more. And while Mario does all the heroic stuff, Luigi is hiding behind a pipe, trembling.

I hate what they have done to him. The best thing that happened to him lately is being playable in Mario Galaxy. After you got all 120 stars and seriously don't want to play all the levels one more time.

Luigi has taken Toad's place of "let's make Mario look better in our incompetence".

Let's not forget that they completely switched Mario and Luigi's rolls around from the single Luigi-only game evar. Even if he was a coward in the game, at least he got to save Mario once.

OH BUT I GUESS THEY'RE EVEN NOW since Luigi became entirely useless against ghosts, Mario freaking turned into one, and saved Luigi at his own game. NO THAT DOESN'T MATTER TO LUIGI AT ALLLLL

Anyway. I agree.

I did like Luigi's Mansion, sure he was a coward in it, but who wouldn't be afraid of ghosts? (Mario. >_>) But in Brawl he's like that? That's pretty stupid. Especially the ghost thing, it was one game, and now he always has something to do with ghosts.

I think the whole "Luigi = ghosts" thing comes from LM being his only game, so apparently, ghosts are his speciality... Let's forget the fact that he used to fight with Mario and own goombas and crap.

It makes sense for him to be afraid, but uh... They overdid it. Should he be afraid? Yes. Should he act afraid constantly throughout the game? No. Does Mario ever act afraid near Boos, like in SM64/SMG/etc? No.

Although, I think everyone acts afraid in Mario Party cutscene thingies.

Still. I liked LM (even though it took like five hours to play through), but they overdid Luigi's fear.

Well I think it would look kind of foolish if Luigi went into the mansion and stood there like a stone wall. People would pick on him for that. The fear was to get the game to be more, for want a a better term, "realistic."

In the older games, IE NES ans SSNES, it was harder to show emotions.

I think your looking too much into it...

That's fine. The problem is that they've carried it over to other games, where Luigi is basically all "OH MY GOD AHHH" and everyone else is like "wut."

If they left his scared-ness in LM and let him be normal in other games, it would be a different story.

That would have made sense too. Luigi's Mansion could have been Nintendo's big chance to evolve Luigi's character. Since he defeated all of those ghosts in the mansion, you'd think he would be much braver. And it would have been perfect for Nintendo to make him a stronger and braver character since he knows he can whoop so eerie ass. But now, he seems more scared than ever. It's like the ghosts traumatized him or something.

And why the hell does he share a house with Mario in Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door? He got his own place at the end of Luigi's mansion. Is he to scared to live there? And on top of that, why does Mario even live in a crappy little house when he has his own damn castle according to Super Mario Land 2?

Anyway, Nintendo are probably the worst when it comes to tying storylines together. Mario and Zelda prove that more than anything.

I was helping my cousin through SMG yesterday, and she was fighting one of the galaxy bosses... It was pretty funny. Baby Bowser is just like, "IMMA GET YOU OHNOSZ" and it's so silly and funny. There's no story to it except when you talk to Rosalina. Whenever you fight an important boss like that in an RPG, there's cutscenes and talk and stuff. But here, it's like a bad TV show. I lol'd.

I still love Mario. It's just got cheesy storylines, now that I think about it. MARIO PLZ COM 2 CASTLE I HAS CAEK KTHX

i know this is a really old topic, but seeing as its the second newest in nintendo favorites and i wasnt around when this was being talked about i thought id just say what i thought

yeah i kind of agree with you guys, even thought i think scared luigi is adorible, i dont think its good for his character. I mean yeah hes so scared in his own game. I mean peach is supposed to be the damsel in distress and when she got her own game she was a pretty brave character. I mean are we really supposed to believe that luigi is more timid than peach would be, i mean yeah peach is tough but when your kidnaped that much should you be afraid of a few things(unless it does the opposite and makes her imune to all of that)

although i do have to mention super paper mario- he was braver in that one

in my opinion, they did sorta kill luigi, but, its another example of classic nintendo... watch some zero punctuation (i think its the zelda windwaker one), and he talks pretty harshly about nintendo, but a lot of it is true, nintendo has a tendancy to over draw on all their series'
American Muscle is back....

And all you'll get to see are the taillights...

Luigi is completely crazy in Brawl.

I don't mind him, however, he's always been somewhat of a weirdo.

It's like he never recovered from that experience in the haunted house. Being afraid of ghosts and dark manors, okay. Being scared of a Waddle Dee in plain daylight, not okay. Ever since Luigi's Mansion he's pretty much been used only for comical purposes while Mario gets all the serious scenes. It ends up being plain unfunny unless you're a 3 years old who still thinks it's funny when the guy on TV is scared of everything.

You are right FM... but the problem lies in the fact that he really didn't have a personality prior to LM...

[Gilmer's Spelling is so bad, he] probably thinks the "Holocaust" is a type of holographic pokemon card.

Remember... Capitalization is the difference between "I had to help my uncle Jack off a horse.." and "I had to help my uncle jack off a horse.."
