King has never been particularly creative and the exact same goes with John Carpenter, who did the original version of The Fog which is the only version people should care about. However from the Wiki entry on the story, it's more apocalyptic than The Fog, with perhaps a little sci-fi.

Stephen King doesn't impress me anyhow. He scares people with blood. Big whoop, like that takes talent.

Yeah, they generally are. I don't pay attention too much. The only one I really liked was The Shining (movie).

the Simpsons made a halloween special about that. it was funny. Bart read the Gardners mind, and then the gardner said
"ach! the wee lad has... THE SHINING!" but he pronounced it shin, not shineing. and Bart said, whats the shinning(correctly) and the gardner said
"shut up! you wanna get us sued?"
i didnt get that till just now when i realized there was a movie called the Shinning.

You ever try scaring someone through text? Pretty hard thing to do. Frankly I think King is overrated in that regard, Lovecraft was far better at creating a creepy atmosphere. However his books are not ones that translate well to the big screen, his atmosphere and scares relies on stuff that don't translate well and his dialogue sounds better in your head than it does in your ears. However the better movies based off his works tend to be the ones like Green Mile, more human stories than anything.
