yes, i have bad news. has anyone ever been to Trinidad? down here, Piracy is illegal, but the government is so corrupt, if you tell the cops about people on the streets selling pirated movies, they will thank you, go to the place, and buy some movies. that happened once when we called the cops about some people with Mary-J. they went and bought some. |

What kind of young person complains about people with pot? Seriously, I would go get a hit. Here getting caught with pot is a fine, nothing goes on the criminal record unless driving while high. As for piracy, I like having a physical copy. Problem is, that means the money goes to the wrong people when I buy said physical copy. For example, if you buy a CD, nearly all that money goes to the retail store, the distributor, and the record label. Something like 10 cents goes to the band when you buy a CD. It seems wrong that a person should be supporting the corporations that just distribute the work instead of the people that make the album. The record labels that do give the bands a lot of the profits tend to be smaller record labels, so the band gets more money per purchase, but less money because no one knows about them because these labels don't have the money to get videos on MTV, for example. The same basic idea goes with games. For me, while I don't pirate, I don't care if people do. I am not a fan an economic model where the artists get the least money when they create the art. That's the reason I'm a fan of digital distribution, or rather developer focused digital distribution like Steam. It's a model that favours the artists, not the publishers. While there are publishers that support it, you have a lot of indie games on it, getting exposure they never would have gotten thanks to Steam, and most the money for a game purchase goes to the developers. Piracy with a model like that is pretty damn wrong, in my opinion. Also, if you treat your fan base like criminals, they will become criminals. Right now, with Bioshock, I'd rather pirate it than buy the PC version. Why? Intrusive copy protection at the moment limits your install limit. That's wrong, and when the pirated versions don't have that, no wonder people pirate. Galactic Civilizations II, when it came out, refused to use StarForce copy protection. The company behind StarForce didn't like that, since it was a surprise hit so they lost out on a lot of money, so an employee posted links to pirated versions that came with the CD key-gens needed to get around the existing copy protection in the game. People were so disgusted, that when the company that made the game put up a page where, for a $10 donation, they would give you a legal CD key so your pirated copy would be legal, people flocked behind the idea. Pirates, a lot of them, do so because the product is overpriced. If they have a cheap alternative that helps the developer, a lot of them have the conscious to go and support the developer. The entertainment industry needs a cheaper model to produce and distribute work, that will stop piracy. Putting DRM software won't change anything, it will just make those who buy the game wish they had pirated it. |

Not cool. Anyways, you can't do much about piracy. It's way too easy to get away with. It's too big to stop. Hell, when the Navy goes overseas, they buy pirated DVD's from China and stuff. Everyone does it, seems weird that the government and stuff does it more, though. |

...Did you not even get anything I wrote? I don't care about piracy because I don't agree with the whole model, if you disagree with my view, say why, that's how you have a discussion (notice the board is called Serious Discussion). Why is piracy so bad though? Is it really so bad that the studios who rip us off by charging 20 to 40 bucks for a DVD (ooh, $40 if I want a copy of Evil Dead 2 that isn't a shitty transfer). How much of the DVD sales do you think the people who actually made the movie? I won't be sympathetic that some people eke a living by selling pirated copies because, well, either way the people who get the money from DVD sales don't deserve it. Also, if you don't want to start a flame war, refrain from insulting my intelligence when you can't even spells signs or capitalize at the start of sentences.
Why, it's safer than drinking or smoking. There's no recorded case of someone potting themselves to death, how many drink themselves to death or run into liver problems or the lung cancer associated with smoking tobacco. Pot is not terribly addictive at all, both from a physical and mental standpoint (at worst you get in the habit of blazing, but it's not an addiction) so there are no nasty withdrawals. As far as drugs, it's a lot kinder than the legal ones that are socially acceptable, and a hell of a lot kinder than the rest of the illegal ones. |

Mary Jane can impair your judgement just like being drunk would. It also does roughly the same effects as cig smoking. So it's basically like combing booze with cigs, which is why people hate it. And then there's the whole "gateway" drug thing... As far as piracy, I don't like the laws either, they're dumb. But it in the same sense, it would also be dumb for them to put no protection whatsoever on them. I dunno, piracy is a very confusing issue for me. Movies, music, games, etc. Oh, and Gilmer, the Carribean is like, the most corrupt area on the planet. Not really suprising at all. |

Actually, it's not. Studies in the UK showed that people who smoked both tobacco and pot were less likely to get lung cancer. Anyone whose done pot can attest that the high is nothing more than a happier feeling and a more cautious one (basically, it's a literal high). It affects you a lot less than alcohol does (I know people who have quit doing pot because they didn't get a noticeable high from it). The high of pot is NOTHING like you hear it is. It's not something that can be described because it's a feeling, a pack of zigzags won't talk to you like in the ads. Also the gateway drug is shit, why is pot a gateway drug and not alcohol? Alcohol is more dangerous and has a more noticeable effect. Maybe the reason that people try cocaine after MJ is because people aren't honest about the effects of pot, so the person thinks the effects of cocaine are blown out of proportion. It's a gateway drug because we've made it one. |

Rather vigorous defense of pot, eh? Read. It's not as bad as smoking in some areas (Because of all the crap they add) however it's far from harmless. I think cigs, booze, and lighter drugs should all be legal, but saying that it's harmless is just ignorant. As far as the "gateway" drug thing, I agree that it can lead to worse drugs by it's very nature. Drugies generally don't do JUST pot, while boozers generally just do a variety of booze. If your with the druggies, they probably will offer you a variety of drugs, which the person can turn down or approve. But by the mere offering of drugs, the statistics increase. It's common sense dude, it's not an end-all arguement/reason to ban or anything, but to say it makes no sense isn't exactly coherent either. In the end, it's your body, do whatever the heck you want. Just make sure it doesn't affect me. :) |

the stupid PM spends so much on himself, when Trinidad actualy had something good(they hosted the national Cricket championship, meaning teams and people from all of the world were cramming into Trinidad) and he was so busy spending money on himself, he did nothing to impress the teams. you think he might fix up some of the roads, or something, to impress the world leaders coming to see the matches. |

and you took them? see, down here, if i am going to watch any movie, it has to be pirated. they dont even know what a real movie is. their idea of an actual movie is if somone sticks a picture on the case, and wrights the name on the DVD. it sucks. |

I'm not a defending because I'm a heavy user, I rarely do it in fact. I'm a defending because, well, I've experienced the effect first hand. As well as the fact I've seen what it does to people and it just makes them happier (I know a girl, her psychologist said that if she plans to do pot, there's no need to take her anti-depressants) and I've researched about the drug. Pot inhibits cancer cells growth Helps with Alzehiemers deal with their weight loss by making them hungry No link from pot usage to lung cancer RAND study doubts that it's a gateway drug AMA opposed the ban back in the days of yore It's believed THC, the drug in pot, may help with treatment of atherosclerosis Studies have also shown that THC is the most effective way to control nausea and vomiting, the effects are more noticeable when smoked than when ingested as a pill (studies done in Mexico, Taiwan, California, and Georgia). This is good for people suffering a number of diseases where both are common and pretty horrible (IE: AIDS) The drug is also less harmful on the body if you use a vaporizer as it reduces the number of irritants. I'm pro-pot because I've read up on it, have experienced it, and see how it affects people. There are health issues of course, they're not as bad as what I've heard from TV or some teachers. It's not even a hard drug to quit. One person I know smokes regularly, that may sound like an addiction. However he has also gone months when he doesn't have any money and without any pot and functions normally. That's not terribly unusual. It becomes a habit, not an addiction. I don't think heavy usage of it is responsible as there are health risks, and heavy usage triggers the mental issues. However it's easier to toke in moderation than it is to drink in moderation. Take that from a person who over-indulges in chemicals when he has the chance to drink himself... well, drunk, or toke himself high. However I've turned down weed because, well, I wasn't interested in a nasty mix of tobacco and weed. Besides, everything is a health risk. Too much meat is bad for the heart, not enough means you may not be getting certain vitamins you need. Granted there's no unbiased view on this when it comes to studies, however a lot of the anti-drug stuff to pot stems from the findings of studies done by the government decades ago. Most scientists agree that these studies were horribly done, they were unscientific, and reaches illogical conclusions with the evidence gathered. Basically it was propaganda paid for by the government (well, duh), under the guise of being science to lend it some credence. |
