Theres a difference Panth, the TOS say you should be over 13 anyway, so if that warning appears it should serve as a warning that not everything here is safe for everyone. Anyway, nice way to set a double standard panth. On the hot chicks thread you didnt care if younger forumers saw it because of the TOS. But now you say we should watch out for the lil ones because they might see it????

They are both forms of media however.

So, if you believe that uncensored music should be released on public radio, you should not care is uncensored words appear on a public forum. Right Naoko?

And they don't need to cuss in songs anyway. =P

I didn't say that I thought uncensored music should be released on radio. I think you misread what I was saying.

If it has to be censored, why play it at all? There's no point to it.

Also, I agree with 3nigma on his second part. But still. This is a forum for younger members. Most of us aren't 20-something in the first place. Sure you have to be 13, but do you really think 13-year-olds should be looking at that kind of stuff in the first place? As for the cussing... Why cuss in the first place? I understand on this thread, but otherwise... Crow said before that if someone read what was posted, it could get him in trouble for having crude language or pictures or whatever. I mean, really...

I was using this as an example. If people believe that music should be uncensored, then the forum should be uncensored as well.

Who thinks it should be uncensored? *Rereads posts* ._.;

I don't know about censoring. I think they should either replace words (Like replacing F-word with love in that song by Akon) or else not air it at all on regular stations. Eh.

I agree that some songs go to far, but they do make alot of songs sound horrible with censoring.
IE Smack That by Akon ft Eminem

UNCENSORED CHORUS
I feel you creepin', I can see you from my shadow.
Wanna jump up in my Lamborghini Gallardo.
Maybe go to my place and just kick it, like Taebo.
And possibly bend you over.
Look back and watch me
smack that, all on the floor,
smack that, give me some more,
smack that, 'till you get sore
smack that, oooh.
smack that, all on the floor,
smack that, give me some more,
smack that, 'till you get sore,
smack that, oooh.

CENSORED CHORUS
I feel you creepin', I can see you from my shadow.
Wanna jump up in my Lamborghini Gallardo.
Maybe go to my place and just kick it, like Taebo.
Look back and watch me
smack that,
smack that,
smack that,
smack that,
smack that,
smack that,
smack that,
smack that, oooh.

WTF? there was no reason to censor those

Yeah, I don't see why they censored it. It was obviously sexual, but... Dude. The Spice Girls and N'Sync and teenybopper pop groups like that have obviously sexual things in their lyrics, too. XD

Guy from radio station : OMG WHO CARES IF IT RUINS THE SONG, IT HAS SEXUAL REFERENCES.

Look at the lyrics. EVEN when they're censored, we still know that the guy is going around town in his car searching for prostitutes. People aren't THAT dumb. They know he's not gonna get a prostitute because he needs another player for Mario Party.

We should talk about something more relevant, like censoring *censored* internet forums.

Radio waves are controlled by the Federal government.

The Federal government "shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech"

What can we conclude?

They're breaking the Constitution every time they censor speech. ^_^

Eh, most radio stations just don't play that kind of music at all.

Oh you don't know the south. Many of the radio stations around my area (probably 3NiGmA's, too) are for Hip Hop and R&B songs.

Remember: it's rap, not redneck...or whatever stereotyping you got going on (if you do).

I wasn't stereotyping anything. XD I know it's the south, and I know you guys listen to that kind of music more often. And lawl, redneck isn't always just in the south, it's just that most of the rednecks are supposed to be in the south! (I know a family that would be classified as "redneck" in my home town. They don't believe in contraception, so they have 12 kids, and (BADLY) homeschool all but 1 of them. And they're on welfare - a lot. If you can't use a condom, don't have sex, wtf?) Okay, back on topic.

In most of the country, though, there aren't a lot of rap stations, besides around huge cities or something. Where I'm from, we have pop/rock, country, lots of stuff, maybe sometimes some R+B mixed in on other stations, but never rap/hip-hop, and never songs with cussing. (Well... Except this one Avril Lavigne song? XD) I drive all over the country to go to college and to visit Adam, and there's still not usually much rap/hip-hop. There's a ton of them in the south, I'm sure, but in most northern places, they're not usually as popular. There's maybe 1 or none in any given area, and more than that means you're near a big city.

Still... There are plenty of rap/hip-hop songs that don't have cussing. I guess it might get monotonous to only play songs without cussing (since I'm sure there are more with cussing, at least the ones that are popular), but eh. If there's not too much being beeped or editted out, it's not that bad. I think it'd be good if artists could just make alternate lyrics to go with these songs when they're being played on air. Some of them do, kind of.

Firstly, there are some kid-only radio stations. Obviously, those should be edited. However, I don't think they should play songs that need editing, otherwise kids listen to normal radio and are like "???".

Secondly, many kids have heard these words over and over and over. I know that I did when I was a kid. But that didn't mean that I swore. I didn't like hearing swearing all the time; I didn't think that it made anyone any cooler to swear.

Thirdly, if you want to hear the real, swearing version, go by the CD or download the song. I honestly don't mind hearing some of the swear words, but I cannot stand ones that shout out cuss words every other word.

Fourthly; why bother playing "Smack That" if you are bleeping out most of the song?

uea, but not all. Some songs are the most popular at the time, so they do need editing for kids radio

I just thought of these songs:
Quote:

I hate music, I hate the scene
I hate my records, I hate CDs
I hate everyone at shows, and I hate that Rock and Roll
Cuz I know that machine sucked out my soul

Turn it off,
Turn it off,
Turn the radio off
Try thinking for yourself for once in your life

I hate the music business,
it's filled with greed
it's run by old men who don't know what I need
I'm getting older fast, I hope this anger lasts
So I can have the strength to keep fighting back

Turn it off,
Turn it off,
Turn the radio off
Don't you know we're turning into zombies
Turn it off,
Turn it off,
Turn the radio off
Try thinking for yourself for once in your life.

Blah blah blah
another song about the radio
Always complaining that we hate the radio
Well it's time to start the war, now here we go
Our first mission: just don't listen

Turn it off,
Turn it off,
Turn the radio off
Don't you know we're turning into zombies
Turn it off,
Turn it off,
Turn the radio off
Try thinking for yourself for once in your life
Turn it off,
Turn it off,
Turn the radio off
Try thinking for yourself for once in your life.
(Turn the Radio Off by Reel Big Fish)

and

Quote:

"It's the new frontier," they say
It's wide open, anything can happen
But you've got a lot of nerve
To call yourself a pioneer
When you're too god-damn conservative
To take real chances.

Tin-eared
Graph-paper brained accountants
Instead of music fans
Call all the shots at giant record companies now

The lowest common denominator rules
Forget honesty
Forget creativity
The dumbest buy the mostest
That's the name of the game
(MTV Get Off The Air by Dead Kennedys)

Those may seem like non-sequitors, however realize radio, MTV, are just a business. Parents by the kids these CDs until they can get jobs, and the way to assure they buy the CDs is to censor the bad words. Once the CD is sold, it doesn't matter, they made their buck. The music industry is not about taking risks, it's mostly about sure things. This is the same of nearly any music industry (now why are there these indie bands on big record labels? simple, they industry is smart enough to realize that they can make a buck off those who don't want to support the mainstream by releasing indie acts as well).

I'm against censorship in most ways, within limits. Language is something that should not be censored in anyway. Language is how we communicate, how ideas are spread, and all that, and I can't imagine how it could be justified to censor any part of our language. Swearing may seem immature, but look at the lyrics to MTV Get Off The Air I posted. What has more power? "you're too god-damned conservative" or "you're too conservative". You censor language you change the message, or the power of the message, and that's not good.

Frankly, I don't listen to the radio. The record companies tell the radio stations what to play, and the radio stations listen because it means more money. In my opinion, that's a worse form of censorship. I don't want to listen to a playlist put together in a way to get the most money for these companies. The playlist censor music, in a way that, to quote MTV Get Off The Air "turns rock and roll rebellion into Pat Boone sedation." They do this by putting bands on the radio that do exactly that (except now, unlike Pat Boone, they also seem to conform to the image of rock and roll rebellion). I'll listen to the radio when they stop telling me what to listen to. Radio and MTV would work so much better if they tried to expose the audiences to more music. Not just Green Day, not just Panic!, but bands like Dead Kennedys. Sure, Green Day and DK seem to have similar messages in their music, but there's a difference between them. GD is about the buck, their constant changing image, the changing sound, isn't based on artistic merit, but them seeing where the trends are going, and their message is presented in a way that's drowned out by their own personalities, and their own instrument. Turning punk rebellion into Blink 182 sedation.

When stations beep out "god" from "goddamn" and "*censored*" and all of that stuff, usually one cannot hear that the word was supposed to be there in the first place. But when they beep out the f-word, one can make out the sound of the "f." Why is this?

I have no clue, but apparently the rule is to bleep out everything BUT the F in the F-word. I don't get why they do it that way, though... Eh, it's annoying.
