Half-Life 2 was released on November 18th, 2004 after releasing it's first game, Half-Life, that won over 50 awards and was the "PC Game of the Year". Half-Life 2 is about a M.I.T. graduate named Gordon Freeman who was released from slow time-warp status after 20 years from a mysterious man named G-Man, who hired him at the end of Half-Life. It continues the story after a resonance cascade occured in Half-Life 1 in Black Mesa Research Factility, New Mexico, which was predicted about the year of 1997, and released aliens onto Earth from a borderworld called "Xen". Now, in Half-Life 2, there is another species called the Combine who enslaved the Vortigaunts and now own the humans on Earth. It's 20 years later on the Earth. Gordon Freeman starts at City 17, believed to be in Europe. He finds a few people from Half-Life 1 such as Dr. Kleiner, seen in Half-Life 1 as a bald man with glasses, and Dr. Eli, a black man who told Gordon to get to the surface after the resonance cascade in Half-Life 1. Gordon Freeman works his way to the Citadel to stop Dr. Breen, the administrator of Earth, from escaping Earth and having the combine dominate the Earth. At the end, Alyx (Dr. Eli's daughter) and Gordon destroy the portal Dr. Breen was in, which causes the top of the citadel to explode. Storyline: (8/10) You can't really tell what's going on, but if you concentrate and study the environment and gameplay, you get a really good understanding of what's going on when you reach Half-Life 2. The environment blends in with the storyline and shows how things have changed after Half-Life 1. Gameplay: (7/10) The gameplay during chapters is sometimes too long and can get really boring. But yet, they put things in the right place such as the enemies, props, etc. Physics: (10/10) The physics in the game dominated the rest of the games during 2004. (Since it was released in 2004, I pretend it's 2004 right now) All the physics on all the props responded how they're supposed to after an action such as shooting it, walking over it, or picking and dropping it. Graphics: (10/10) The graphics were the best during the times of 2004. People were amazed! Things looked like they were real. All the models and textures had great detail. Also, the water reflected and would move. Music: (9/10) The music during gameplay in this game always blended in with what you were experiencing, seeing, and/or where you are located. Although, sometimes you don't even notice the music playing. Not all of the songs really were good, in my opinion, but still deserves what it was rated by me. |
