Where to begin... Most of the Mario games on NES and SNES had both Mario and Luigi in them. Luigi was his brother's equal back then, and it was great. Hell, he was known for jumping higher than Mario in a few games back then. Now comes the N64. Oh sweet, Mario 64. ...Luigi isn't there, he isn't even mentioned or anything, like he never existed. Oh sweet, Paper Mario, that's a new style of game. ...Luigi is there, but he hardly does anything, and even after his constant hinting at wanting to join Mario in his adventure, he is left behind after being told to "watch the house". He still appears in some games, like Mario Kart and the original SSB, but that's pretty much it. He's there not because it's great for him to be there, it's just because it wouldn't make sense NOT having him there. Now comes the gamecube. Alright! One of the first games on it has Luigi as the main character! Awesome! ...not. Luigi's Mansion was an extremely average game, and it changed Luigi forever. They turned Luigi into a coward. I know, Luigi was already a bit more cowardish than Mario in the shows and all. But look at him now! The first cutscene you see him in in Brawl, he's trembling in fear in front of a freaking Waddle Dee. He also often close his eyes in fear during his attacks. He's always afraid of everything. Luigi is now a coward always associated with ghosts who will be in his brother's shadow even more. And while Mario does all the heroic stuff, Luigi is hiding behind a pipe, trembling. I hate what they have done to him. The best thing that happened to him lately is being playable in Mario Galaxy. After you got all 120 stars and seriously don't want to play all the levels one more time. Luigi has taken Toad's place of "let's make Mario look better in our incompetence". |
