The US falls between 19th and 23rd (a tie between a few different nations, we're at 23rd but it's in alphabetical order and US starts with U.) What I found interesting is that the lowest - African countries, mostly - quality as mildly retarded by the IQ scale. The lowest is 59. Nearly 20 nations on this list have an average IQ lower than 80. Below 80 is considered borderline retarded, and 50 to 70 is considered mildly retarded. I found this rather interesting, as I'm pretty sure that the average people in Africa are probably not mentally retarded. If so, they've got more problems than AIDs and poverty. Pool's closed. I think it should easily be obvious to all of you now that the IQ test is biased when compared between developed and undeveloped countries, eh? Considering the fact that people in this countries don't always learn to read or go to school, I think that affects things. (But hey, let's also note the fact that a lack of the ability to read does not make someone unintelligent, if it's due to the fact that they never had a chance to in the first place. Intelligence varies between intelligent literate and dumb literate just as it does between intelligent illiterate and dumb illiterate. Plus, being illiterate in Africa is kind of very different from being illiterate in an American school.) ANYWAY. I'd like to talk about the whole bias of the IQ test. One thing I found stated about the difference between male and female scores. Apparently, there was a time where testing allowed females to score better, and then test-makers frantically altered the tests in order to make males score better. I THINK WE HAS A PROBLEM HERE ALREADY. Also, I've read things before stating that the test-makers greatly influence the results. For example, if a test is made by a white man, then white people (particularly white males, although what I read focused on race so I'm not totally sure about the gender part of it) will do better on it. In turn, if a black man writes the test, then chances are, black people will score better. I'm sure you've all heard and read of the problems surrounding IQ testing, as well as the innefficiency of the SAT/ACT tests. Such as how they're completely affected by your family's income - you're wealthy? Oh, unless you're a dumbarse or the poor kid is gifted, chances are you're going to score much higher than the poor kid, and vice versa. So... Thoughts. I think we has a problem hearsz. |
