Who?
I've been huge Mario fan since i began gaming. But this game really disappointed me a lot. It was nice to finally play a real 2D Mario game, but i think that they tried to hard to make it like the origional game. I'm hoping the next game will be more like SMB3.

I personally thought Yoshi's Island DS was A LOT better of a platformer.

Here's the review that I did for my old site. A lot of people argued my review, but I am sticking with my opinion.

New Super Mario Bros.
Joe “JoeStunna" Shoemaker

It's been 15 years since Nintendo graced us with a 2D Mario side scroller. So when they announced the New Super Mario Bros. for the DS, we had high expectations. When I first laid my hands on the game, I was shocked to see that they reverted back to the simpler ways of the first Super Mario Bros. The game just felt like is was missing so much. Nintendo clearly tried to hard to recreate the first Super Mario Bros. and neglected it's sequels.

Presentation - 6
The story is one of the lamest stories in Mario history. Peach is kidnapped by Bowser Jr. That's it. There is no reason behind it or anything. I guess we could assume that his dad put him up to it. But maybe he just likes older women.

Graphics - 10
These are the best graphics that we have ever seen in a 2D Mario game. Why? Because they are anything but 2D. All of the sprites are 3D renders that play in a 2D style. If the game excels anywhere, it is in the graphics department.

Sound - 7
The sound is anything but spectacular. It's not bad, but it just doesn't grab your attention like the music in Super Mario World. The older Mario games had music that you just couldn't get out of your head. I remember playing Super Mario World and then I would later hear my mom whistling the tune to herself. This game won't do that to you, or your mom for that matter. Some of the music is just recycled from Super Mario 64. While others are new to the game.

Gameplay -7.5
The gameplay isn't terrible, but it sure isn't great. It's nice to have the wall jumping ability to save your life on certain occasions. But our plump plumber can no longer look up or throw something into the air above his head. There is no riding Yoshi either. Yoshi isn't even in this game. Most boss battles are a joke. Bowser Jr. is one of the easiest bosses in Mario history. And Bowser himself is the same as he was in the first Mario game. Just run past him and hit the switch to break the bridge. There are some nice bosses too. The Monty Mole Tank is somewhat of a challenge as well as a few others. But the constant run ins with Bowser Jr. become repetitive. And my biggest beef is the lack of items. There are a few new items like the Mega Mushroom, which in my opinion makes the game to easy at times. The mini mushroom, which is a great addition for some challenge. And of course, the Koopa Shell. Run as fast as you can until you spin in the shell over a cliff to your death.

Replay Value 6.7
The replay value of the game isn't the best, but it isn't bad either. After beating the game as Mario, you get the option of playing as Luigi by holding L & R when selecting a game. You can also focus on collecting all of the Star Coins. Which don't get you anything more than a new wallpaper for your item screen.

Overall Score - 7.5
