This is my first review... so...

This game is the first Dragon Quest Game outside of Japan for a while. This game has similar mechanics to Pokemon. It is a Fantasy RPG.

You'll play as a young boy with a father who belongs to an organization called CELL. The game starts off with the boy being locked up in a cell for 10 days because he ran away to the Monster-scouting tournament. Your father releases you after you promise to enter the tournament as a CELL agent. You then go off on your adventure.

In Joker you adventure through the islands of Green Bay, interacting with people and monsters alike. You fight monsters that are actually seen in the overworld, letting you choose to fight or ignore them (Though they might not ignore you...).

This game has over 200 monsters. Some were in previous games. Some are new. You can carry up to three monsters in your team at any time. Each of your monsters are able to level up, gain new skills, and equip weapons. You can also have three subsitutes that can swap in with your party anytime outside of battle.

The monsters are not as animal-like as the creatures in Pokemon. The way you get more monsters is called scouting. Your monsters try to persuade a wild monster (Or even a monster owned by other scouts.) into joining your group by showing how tough your team is.
How much your monsters impress the wanted monster determines the percentage rate. This shows the monster's chance of joining your team. When your monster hits the enemy monster during scouting the percentage goes higher. The closer the percentage is to 100... The better chance you'll get that monster. This means you could get a monster at 1% and still obtain it.
Like Pokemon this game involves strategy for building a team. Monsters belong to different groupings. You can blend monsters together and pass on three skills into the new monster.
During battle you can either jus fight and watch your monsters do what they please, or Command each monster yourself instead. If you want to command every move of each monster every turn, then you can do that.
One bad thing though is that characters and monsters often pop up without you noticing. You'll see a patch of grass then a few seconds later a person appears.
The dual-screen works with the battles taking place on the top screen and the map and battle menus on the bottom. You also have the choice of entering a tournament online with wi-fi.
DQM is a pretty good monster RPG. It has some good 3D graphics and over 200 collectable monsters. If you like the Pokemon series then you should try it out.
I give it an 8.5
