=-=-=-Episode One-=-=-= ------------------------------------------- Ace sat motionless on the rim of the beach. The orange sun set quietly and slowly out past the horizon. Ace moved his wing around on the sand making an odd feathery pattern. Thoughts raced through his mind and his eye twitched frantically. A plane of 8 people had crashed just 3 hours ago stranding them all on this island in the middle of the Atlantic ocean. The island was surrounded by golden sand and greenish water. Palm trees lined the shore and many trees were scattered in and around them. Ace slowly stood up and viewed the ending of the first sunset out of many he was sure to see. The darkness soon crept over the ocean and the dense forest appeared tantalizing in front of him. No one knew of anything inside the forest nor what they should expect to see while exploring the thick green. Aurora appeared out of the bushes and walked up to Ace. "The moon's rising and we have no idea where we should stay." she said. Ace realized the possible threat of being out in a forest without a safe place to stay for even one night. "Where are the others?" he asked in a deep, hushed voice. Aurora motioned a little to the west and they set off into the forest. Ace's right wing clutched tightly to his knife they walked slowly and silently around many fallen trees and branches. Every now and then they would hear some noise off in the distance and pause. They would continue but slower than they had started each time. A little ways ahead, Camofrog jumped out of a tree. Ace and Aurora were frightened and jumped back into a bush. "Guys," Camofrog started. "It's just me. No worries." A flashlight clicked on and a brown and green speckled face appeared in the light in front of Aurora. Rex trotted out from behind Ace holding some long branches. The weight slowed his movement by quite a noticeable margin. The usual quick and energetic Rex was carrying some 20 branches, all at least 8 feet long. "What're those for?" Camofrog asked. Rex turned his attention to him and replied and yet another hushed voice, "We need to begin construction on something to stay in. Either above the ground or below it we need somewhere comfortable to sleep." Hambo followed Rex closely carrying another 15 or so branches at the same length. "This is going to take time." In maybe 4 hours the group had built a 4 sturdy walls, a door and a roof with nothing but branches and seaweed to tie them together. They would all sleep on the ground in shifts while others would go out and hunt for food. When Ace returned around 3 AM he brought with him a handful of fish. "They were really biting this morning." he said as he carefully set the bucket down next to a fire. No one replied. They're probably all asleep. He thought to himself. Switching on his flashlight he saw that no one was with him in the hutch. All the spaces were his friends had been were now empty and their body's had left prints in the ground where they had slept. Now even more scared than he had been before, Ace ran to a spot next to the window. He stuck his head out and yelled. Realizing that this could draw unwanted attention to himself, he grabbed for his knife and strapped it to his waste. Picking up a machete from the ground next to the door, he placed it in his holster down by his boot. Trudging out into the dark, dense forest Ace awaited the sound of anything. A creek, snap or anything whatsoever would cause him to lunge for both his knife and machete. Slowly creeping around in circles he heard a noise. Tensing up he waited for another noise. But he waited too long. A hand reached out behind him and clamped on his face. His feet were swept from under him and he found himself being dragged away from the hut into the brush. |
