Kingdom Hearts Overview You are Sora. You live on island in what appears to be the middle of nowhere (even though the "world" you live in is called "Destiny Isles"...you'd think there'd be more islands). You and your friends Riku and Kairi are making a raft to leave the island(s) and travel to other worlds. However, the night before you set out, a terrible storm starts up...and everything changes. Sora goes from innocent boy to keyholder, and it's his job to save the worlds (actually plural) from the Heartless (beings without a heart - who'dve thought) and the evil villians that control them. Graphics - 8.0/10.0 --- Okay, so they aren't Halo 3. They aren't Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. But for the Playstation 2 going for a cutesy-look with Final Fantasy characters, it's not half bad. It reinforces the Disney aspect and honestly doesn't make much difference in the gameplay. It's not beautiful, but it's acceptable. Sound - 9.0/10.0 --- Nice, original soundtracks with some classic favorites from the Disney era of our youth. Most of the Disney tracks are wonderfully remastered and sound wonderful, and the battle music that changes in the midst of enemies reflects the classic tunes well. The original music of the game is also rather good. A few small sounds (like the one that occurs when you can't do something) are rather annoying, and the voice acting is so-so. Most of the time it works, but Hercules sounds like a gay guy. I just wish they'd gotten Mandy Moore for Aerith in the second game (I curse Mena Suvari to the hot place!!!), cuz she works here. Control - 7.0/10.0 --- This is rather ugly. Very simple, very basic, but a few things needed revamping. One specific problem is the camera. It can be absolutely terrible in certain situation where you're nearly dead and need to see your enemy. The next second, you're dead. The second problem is the camera CONTROL. Using R2 and L2 is kind of awkward, especially in the midst of fighting certain bosses in the game that are in cramped spaces. Otherwise, easy to pick up controls round it out so the score doesn't completely suck. Story - 9.0/10.0 --- It's interesting how they can take a normal "save the world from evil" story and expand on it so much. This is a personal score, and I'm a grown 17-year old, but I honestly thought the story was well planned. The incorporation of the Disney and Final Fantasy characters in the story with Sora, Donald and Goofy was very interesting, and it WORKED. Some of the characters and aspects of the story were a bit iffy (my main point loss here was Atlantica - I was NOT a fan of the Little Mermaid), but for the most part, they worked fine. Overall - 8.5/10.0 --- For a supposedly cute Square-Enix game, this one gets a B+ in my book. It's a great game that will most likely consume 20+ hours of your life (I have a game completely maxed, beaten everything with the best stats at around 89 hours). If you can overlook the Disney part of it (which isn't that bad anyway), it's a good way to spend a weekend. |
