DS to Lite conversion?; Is it possible to turn a DS into a Lite?

I recently saw a DS Lite Shell replacement kit on eBay, and had a thought:
Is it possible to transplant all of the components from a regular DS into a DS Lite shell? I understand that the internal hardware is the same anyway, so it should work, right?

No it will not work. Most of the components will tranfer right over, but much has changed. All of the power components have been moved and size reduced and buttons moved and are completely different physically.
Not only that, but the lite has a much brighter backlight, making it a much more usefull system.

I wasn't expecting a reply so quickly, if at all! Thank you very much.

I was sort of expecting that there would be some kind of snag in my theory. Does anyone know exactly which components have changed in the DS lite? My guess is that its the motherboard and the LCD screens (not including the touch sensor) have changed, but the CPUs, speakers, microphone, etc have stayed the same. If anyone can help me out it would be much appreciated.

A lot of what you stated is what remained. The 'Guts', if you will, remained the same. What physically changed was both the power source and switch, all the buttons including the shoulders, the volume control and I think (not 100% on this one) the speakers were upgraded. And like I said earlier they also upgraded the back light.

I myself wouldn't risk a swap.

OK I guess I'll just buy a new touch screen for it and leave it at that. Maybe if I find a cheap DS lite on ebay I'll buy it.
Thanks for the help!

I think that all these changes nintendo made would have merited a motherboard redesign aswell. So if you look at the list of components I'd have to replace to make a DS lite (motherboard, speakers, screens), the total cost is roughly the same as buying a brand new DS lite anyway. And said components are really hard to find on the internet anyways xP
