Right phantasy star online is a fully free MMORPG game that can run on any level computer with any speed dial-up (yes fatty, a beautiful game, made with dial-up in mind, the WoW quality graphics. I'll say how this is done in a min. I mean, no lag, even on dial-up! WOOT!) Soooo anyways, heres the story. Phantasy star online as an insanely popular dreamcast game, that was later graphically upgraded and ported to PC and Xbox. It was also the only online game for the GC. But in a sad twist of fate (despite the games massive popularity) a crappy sequel was released. And sega stopped supporting the older game and took the servers offline. The new version had no targeting system (trust me, for this game, that is baaaad) and was just...not as good. So fans hacked the game, upgraded it more. Retextured everything and made their own free server (hundreds of players always online so you dont get bored or lonely in an empty world) well, I recently started playing, and to linkums etc. THIS GAME OWNS SILK ROAD! What you do is you start out in a lobby area where you see everyone who is online all hanging out, you can even play a soccer style game while you wait (on floors 11-15 I believe) You can form or join a team, which is a group of four people who leave everyone else and enter their own private area of the game. (Yeah, you can have passwords on your teams to make it friends only) That way you and your group and really strategize without worrying about uber people stealing all thier kills and then calling them noobs, swearing and leaving. You can be a gunner, (uber guns!) spellcaster (hard to play as, but good if you know how to use them) and sword masters (beamswords etc, huge and awsome!) There are some chars that to guns and swords, but have no technics. (play the game to learn more...) I mean, the level of strategy and fun and teamwork and uberness is...huge... well the software comes packed with the ablitity to run your own server. to access ours when you go line in the game you will see a list of server (arcadia is what I use mostly) but if you go down the list it says like "us server list" go here then look for forum-n as one of the server. Thats us, if I add a pass I'll post it here. If that is there then I am offline, go to arcadia instead. the beauty of this is that no matter what server you play on, your charector can go on any of them without a loss of anything, because your PC stores that, so play on any server you like and we can still meat up. Right to download Go HERE: http://z7.invisionfree.com/PSO_SERVER_HOME...?showtopic=1118
That is dial-up friendly, I recommend the larger file (the hundred and somethin meg one, althought fatty may opt the for 86 or something meg one)

Once that is installed use the atorun with something like rabbit's atorun as its name. It works well. You can go to option to change graphics, sound on and off (on is best of course) and let it know your internet speed. (it helps.) So anways, if you ever want to team with me Gtalk or email me and I'll get right on! lemme know. (plllllleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease get this! I NEEEEED to play this with you guys.)

Here is a nice FAQ (not by me)

||=========================||
||Star-X's definitive FAQ to PSO PC||
||=========================||
------------------------
FAQ version: 2.3.2
Version history:
2.0: First version to have version history; almost everything done, minor edits may be made over time.
2.0.0.1: Very minor edit, put the copyright info into the table of contents.
2.0.0.2: Another very minor edit: forgot to put ATM into the common internet terms area; fixed now.
2.0.2: Added a bunch more PSO terms, and did a few more minor edits.
2.1: Colour coded each area of the FAQ, and used bold and italics a lot more. Fairly large update for this.
2.1.5: Removed the colours; they're not really helping THAT much. Also fixed a few minor things, such as making the italics stretch for the entire question. Hopefully this helps.
2.1.6: Made Section 6 use bullets. Makes it much easier to read.
2.1.7: Threw in dividing lines between each section. Man, and I thought all the hard work was done! Still editing the dividing areas, will take a while to perfect.
2.1.7.9: Finished making the dividing lines, and even put the titles of different sections in boxes! Looks much nicer now.
2.1.7.9.9: VERY minor edit, this only applies to the forum version. Accidentally missed an italics area. Fixing now.
2.1.8: Ives updated his site, and thus I have to update the listings on the references area now.
2.1.8.5: Minor fixes here and there, thanks for the suggestions Kuroi
2.1.9: Replaced quite a bit, hopefully clears up some stuff.
2.2: Whole crapload of updates, mostly dealing with recent upgrades to the server, such as PSO GC support.
2.2.0.1: This is mostly an update to add in a "What is PSO?" section. The rest of the guide will remain untouched, the reason for this being that I'm lazy and hungry.
2.3: MAJOR UPDATE! No new questions added, but all recent things have been taken into account. This FAQ is no longer out of date WHEE! XP May add screenshots to the next minor update for purposes of advertizing at computer stores.
2.3.1: How stupid of me. I recently found out that PSO DC v1 doesn't FSOD from GC users now, yet my FAQ still says they do. Time to fix that.
2.3.2: I've been gone a while, so I forgot about Ives's site changing URLs. Fixing that now.

||Section 1: Downloading and installing PSO PC||
||==================================||
-------------------------------------------------
Q#1.1: What is PSO?
A: Phantasy Star Online (almost always referred to as PSO) is an online RPG game which takes place in a futuristic setting. It was produced by Sonic Team, and published by Sega. Amazingly, PSO PC is one of the very few online RPG games that relies on the user using a controller/keyboard to move around and attack, rather than pointing and clicking.

There have been many versions of PSO. It all started with PSO Dreamcast version 1. About a year or two later, PSO Dreamcast Version 2 came out, and was a vast improvement over version 1. PSO PC is based around PSO Dreamcast version 2, but is much better due to instantaneous loading times, character files that are stored in one folder (explained later), and very easy installation and setup. This FAQ deals with the PC version of PSO version 2, so the Gamecube version will not be discussed in here; it is worth noting that it has become more popular recently however.

Unlike many online RPG games, PSO PC is 100% free to download and play online. Sega's servers have long been down, and Schthack opened a free of charge server to play on since Sega has no intention of ever reopening their servers. Without this free server, it's doubtful anyone would be playing the game at all today.

Generally, most people who have tried the game have enjoyed it a lot. PSO PC is definitely one of the best games to at least try out.

If you're reading this from Staples, and are interested in the game, please don't hesitate to download the game when you get home using the instructions below. You'll be glad you did.

Q#1.2: Where can I download PSO PC?
A: First off, download Azureus (go here, then download the latest version). Then go to http://rodenta1031.myftp.org/AleronIves/PS...ace/splash.html, go to the Downloads section, click on the torrent, and open it with Azureus. If the site is down, go here and download the PSO PC torrent: http://www.caitsith2.com/pso/index.htm Then sit back and wait a while for PSO PC to download (it's a gig big, so it'll take quite a while).

Q#1.3: Bittorrent/Azureus/whatever finished downloading. Now what do I do?
A: Look here to find the Readme: http://rodenta1031.myftp.org/AleronIves/PS...DME_online.html

Q#1.4: I can't open PSO_PC_Ives_ISOs.zip! Help!
A: Get WinZip or some other zip archive program to open up the zip file if you're not using Linux or Windows XP, which both have zip archiving built in. Should be self explanitory from there.

Q#1.5: I get a Not Support Language Error when I insert the PSO PC disk! HELP!
A: That's a good sign. It means the disk burned correctly/downloaded correctly. Now, read the readme so I don't have to answer the whole thing.

Q#1.6: Can I play online without unique serials?
A: Yes, just use the online offline patch to start up PSO. It ignores the serial check, so you can connect without a serial. Do note however that you won't be able to save guild cards, and your guild card number will be name generated, so I wouldn't advise sending your guild card to anyone until your unique serial arrives in your email and you register your chars to it.

Q#1.7: How do I get a unique serial?
A: Send an email to schtserv@gmail.com asking for one. Do NOT use a .reg patch, you'll be sorry if you do! Also don't email schtserv@hotmail.com, that's Schthack's personal email, and if you do that you won't get your unique serial within a reasonable time frame. Don't email BOTH the Hotmail and Gmail ones either, since the Gmail one will not respond if you do.
Schtserv@hotmail.com is now the PSO GC serial registration address, so if you need to register your PSO GC unique serial and access key, email schtserv@hotmail.com with your GC serial and access key, and give about a week for it to be registered.

Q#1.8: I tried to register my serial, but it gives me an error! HELP!
A: Click Start Game, NOT register in Autorun2.exe. Register is broken and doesn't do anything ATM. Start Game is the only way to register your serials.

---------------------------------------------
||=======================||
||Section 2: Beginning the game||
||=======================||
----------------------------------------------
Q#2.1: How do I move?
A: Turn off Num Lock and use the Num Pad for movement, or get a joypad and configure it in the in game options.

Q#2.2: How do I make/join a game?
A: This should be obvious enough, but if you can't figure it out, then hit enter at the counter, use the Arrow Keys to select Organize Team, then select Join or Create Team. For joining a game, hitting the left arrow key shows all the players in a game, and hitting enter joins it. For creating a game, fill in the necessary fields and hit create game.

Q#2.3: I can't type! HELP!
A: Right click on the PSO PC shortcut, go to Compatability, and turn off advanced text services. PSO really doesn't like advanced text services, so make sure it's off.

Q#2.4: What does a section ID do?
A: It determines what the items that drop from enemies and boxes will be. For example, my section ID (redria) drops lots of armours in ruins, while Skyly would get people lots of swords.

Q#2.5: What does PB mean?
A: Usually it could mean 1 of 2 things; either your Photon Blast power meter up at the top near the HP meter (which is filled by dishing out or taking damage), or Photon Blasts in general. Use the context to figure it out depending on the situation.

Q#2.6: Where are my screenshots located?
A: Look in the Backup directory of your PSO PC install. They should all be there. (note that you can only have 1000 at a time, so you have to copy the screenshots to other directories when you get to 1000 to continue taking more)

Q#2.7: I found a Delsaber's Right Arm/Left Arm/Booma Claw/whatever other enemy parts there are! What do they do?
A: They can be converted into weapons. Complete the following quests to unlock the ability to get them transformed:

CODE
The first 3 quests available to you (dunno what ones they are)
Doc's Secret Plan
Unsealed Door

Then you have two options. I only know the exact method of one, but I know a partial method for the other. What you have to do is go to the quest Dr. Osto's research, take out the Enemy part, and talk to Dr.Montague near the hospital. He'll convert any enemy part that's not in glowing red text, though it won't have %'s. The other option is to do Today's Rate in the same difficulty as the one where you completed the 5 quests above, talk to Dr. Montague in the corner, and find the chip hidden somewhere, though I have no idea where it is... (note that this will update when I finally figure out how to get it to work)

----------------------------------------------------
||=====================================||
||Section 3: General questions about the server(s)||
||=====================================||
-----------------------------------------------------
Q#3.1: Are there lots of hackers?
A: Unfortunately yes, ever since all ships became "do whatever the heck you want" ships, there have been a lot of hackers. Thankfully there are only about 1 or 2 malicious hackers, and for all we know they might not even exist. The worst that can happen is having a hacker clear rooms faster than you can say POOF, so it's more a slight annoyance than a really dangerous situation. A common tip to avoid them entirely is to either make passworded games, have everyone you want join a game, then type in

CODE
/setlvl 1000

to make it so that nobody else can join [use /setlvl (insert default minimum for difficulty level here) to restore the game to regular status], and/or use

CODE
/setpass (password)

to set a password after the game is made. All 3 work well at stopping hackers before they get in, so use them to full effect.

Q#3.2: Which ships have the most hackers?
A: Most of the clans have either gone to US/KOTRT, are hiding out on private servers, or are annoying people on CA/Legit. CA/Legit still has the highest legit PC population however, so if you want to play with legits, CA/Legit is still the best. Thanks to someone changing around the servers, all of the ships have about equal hacker-to-legit ratios now. Generally the most people hang around Nebula block 1, but it's not necessarily all hackers. Just make a list of legits if you want to make sure you're playing with legit people. At low levels passworded games are a bad idea, so stick with open games, and keep an eye out for obviously hacked items.

Q#3.3: What are the commands for Schthack's servers?
A: Look here for a partial list (there are more, but I won't bother to tell you them, since they're either GM commands or commands with virtually no use): [url]http://s7.invisionfree.com/PSO_SERVER_HOME/index.php?showtopic=1128[url]
Other than a few secret commands which nobody is supposed to share, that's all of the commands. Use them wisely.

Q#3.4: I get a Guild Card in Use error when I try to connect, and sometimes get disconnected by it! How do I solve this?!
A: This only happens with shared serials or no serial at all. If you have no serial, then register one via the New Online.exe. If you have a shared serial, then you have three options: either restart your character on a unique serial (this causes you to lose your progress, so do this only if you haven't gotten very far into the game), use a Guild Card changing trainer somewhere on the net to spoof your guild card number to be unique (only do this as a very last resort, since your chars will suffer from glitches that most people don't suffer from), or use the PSO Serial Changing program to transfer your characters onto a unique serial (quite difficult if using one of the crappy hacked-up versions of PSO PC, since it requires you to follow the instructions until you have to nuke the serial info, then install the torrent and continue from there; quite easy to do if switching from a shared serial on the torrent to a unique serial, since it doesn't require a reinstall at all). When you're finally on a unique serial, you'll never suffer from this problem again.

Q#3.5: What's the difference between Ver 1 compatability and Ver 2 only when I create a game?
A: Version 1 compatability mode lets you play with DC v1 users; however it's glitchy and only gives you v1 drops; unless you know someone with DC v1 who wants to join your game, play in v2 only mode; works better that way. With a fairly recent update, DC v1 users should be able to play on busy servers again without FSODing from GC users, so making DC v1 compatible games is OK now. Whee.

Q#3.6: Who are the GMs?
A: Aleron Ives, Pobega, and Delta. Ives uses lots of different character names, but the one he uses the most is Giovanna. ALMOST always Pobega is using a char with the name Pobega in it; however when watching over a spamming n00b he often disguises himself to avoid being spotted (good example: CHICKEN WINGZ). Delta seems to have left for good, so don't look to him for help. There may be other GMs, but I've never actually seen them, so if someone could tell me what the other GMs are, please PM me.

Q#3.7: How do I transfer a character from PSO DC to PSO PC?
A: This uses the other backup method. First, get as many valuable items into your char's inventory as possible (this means throw out your monomates, dimates and such; they're expendable, a soniti is not), because this process will nuke the contents of the bank. Once you get all your valuable items out of the bank, type in

CODE
/save (password)

to back up your PSO DC character onto the server. Now, get onto PSO PC with a character that has the same name as the PSO DC char you're transfering (should be easy enough, just create a new one with the name), and type in

CODE
/restor (password)

to turn your PSO PC char into your PSO DC char, complete with all the items in his or her inventory. Unfortunately not everything transfers perfectly, so don't expect it to be flawless.
NOTE: Do not use the example I provided exactly. Type in your own password, not just (password).

Q#3.8: What does GC Allowed do, and why are my games labeled with a V2> when I make a game in that mode?
A: GC Allowed basically makes it possible for Gamecube users to join your game. I advise against using it for anything more than item transfering, though, since it's very unstable and usually results in FSOD for the GC users, and sometimes crashes for PC users. The V2> that's put in front of the game name is put there because GC users can't see coloured text in game names and thus a text flag was put for GC Allowed games so GC users could tell them apart from GC only games.

Q#3.9: Can I transfer a character from PC to GC and back again?
A: Somewhat. If your copy of PSO PC is using no serial or a shared serial, and your GC's serial and access key have not been registered yet, then typing in

CODE
/save (password)

on GC, then logging out and coming on with a character with the same name on PC, and typing in

CODE
/restor (password)

will result in your GC char being successfully transfered. Be warned that this hasn't been tested much (so far the only person who I know has accomplished it successfully tested this with a HUmar with no good items on GC, and used Broomop's crappy version of PSO PC), and may result in corrupted characters, so take the precaution of backing up your characters on PC as much as possible.
You CANNOT, however, transfer a character from PC to GC. It will never work, because PSO GC has built in lobby reload protection, and thus it's impossible to use /restor, /npc, or any other command that uses lobby reloading on PSO GC.

-----------------------------------------------
||==========================||
||Section 4: Troubleshooting PSO PC||
||==========================||
-----------------------------------------------
Q#4.1: Where's windowed mode?
A: Either download the old Windowed mode EXE from Schthack's website and copy wsock32.dll and PSO.exe into the directory (this method is not advised for those who want to skip the Trial Server junk window it throws at you when starting it up), or look for wmccheat and patch the fullscreen EXE to be Windowed (don't do this if you're tempted easily, or you could possibly make yourself unlegit by using GOE or whatever).
Also, Ives's site has a new Windowed mode EXE, so you can download it from there.

Q#4.2: Windowed mode disables the mouse!
A: Look on pika.tk or http://rodenta1031.myftp.org/AleronIves/PS...ace/splash.html for the Windowed Mode exe with Mouse enabled, or better yet learn to use the Num Pad.

Q#4.3: Where's episode 2?!?!
A: There isn't, PSO PC is a port of PSO DC v2. PSO GC is v3, and Episode 2 wasn't introduced until v3, so you won't be seeing Episode 2 for a LONG time.
Although Temple and Spaceship are in PSO PC, they cannot actually be used at this time except in battles, and probably won't be used for Episode 2 on PC until the quest format is 100% cracked.

Q#4.4: PSO PC refuses to connect! WHY?!
A: Try configuring your Firewall to not block PSO PC, set PSO PC to LAN mode if it's not already set to that, check to see if your router/modem/whatever is plugged into your PC, and hopefully it'll work. If it still doesn't work, then there's something wrong that I can't help you with.

Q#4.5: My screenshots turn up as static when using windowed mode! Help!
A: The solution is simple: Use full screen mode. If you can't, then hit Alt+Printscreen in Windowed mode, then paste the image in paint to get your screenshot.
Alternatively, you can use Fraps to take screenshots of Windowed mode's video output. However, I don't know if you need the full or trial version to accomplish this, so you may have to illegally download the full version of fraps, or the trial along with a crack that makes it the full version.

Q#4.6: PSO closed when something appeared in the background! How do I fix it?
A: Windowed mode is the more permanent solution to this, but if you need to use full screen mode, make sure that no programs other than PSO are running before running PSO, make sure your firewall program isn't set to do an automatic blocking/automatic virus scan/automatic update/whatever, and use Ad-Aware and Spybot to nuke spyware on your comp (though my upstairs comp has a horde of spyware and doesn't suffer from this problem, so it's kinda random).

Q#4.7: Windowed mode doesn't work!
A: If you're using the ancient Windowed mode EXE from Schthack's downloads page, make sure wsock32.dll is in the PSO directory, otherwise it won't work. If that's not the case, or wsock32.dll is already in there, then make sure your display setting is set to 32 bit, otherwise windowed mode won't work. 16 bit works too, but only if that's your highest colour depth.

Q#4.8: I'm using Windows 2003 server, and PSO won't run!
A: Windows 2003 server can't run very many games, since it was built as a server OS and not as a gaming OS. No matter how hard you try, PSO won't work on Windows 2003 server. Get Windows XP or 2k if you intend on playing PSO PC.

---------------------------------------------------------------
||===========================================||
||Section 5: Questions that don't fit into any other category||
||===========================================||
----------------------------------------------------------------
Q#5.1: I saw a smaller version of PSO PC on a different webpage!
A: Don't download it; the ISO's are much better, and allow you to use Unique Serials. So far there hasn't been a smaller version of PSO PC that had the ability to use unique serials without a lot of trouble, and most of them corrupt your character or have hacked exe's, so don't use them.
There ARE now some smaller downloadable versions out there, but I still advise against using them, since much of the time they have errors that can cause characters to go poof.

Q#5.2: Is there a version of PSO for Linux or Macintosh?
A: No, unfortunately there isn't. However, with Wine it's possible to emulate the server on any OS, so if you have a spare Linux comp, and wish to make your own server, go ahead and emulate the server on Linux. Much more secure than Windows.
There's a project to get Cedega to run PSO PC on Linux, but so far it hasn't accomplished much, so don't get your hopes up.

Q#5.3: How do I back up my characters?
A: There are two methods, but since one of them is close to useless (/save and /restor), you're better off using the other method (backing up the character data directly). Go into the directory where PSO PC is installed (most likely C:\Program Files\SEGA\PhantasyStarOnline if you just accepted the default), go into the directory called Backup, and copy all the files there that are not screenshots (unless your computer is dumb, all the necessary files should appear with the default windows icon). Then paste them wherever you think would be best for backing the chars up (I would suggest either a folder in a random directory on your computer or a folder in My Documents; either way works). Make sure you do backups at least daily and possibly more if you happen to get something incredibly rare. To restore the backed up chars, paste the files back into the Backup directory in PSO PC's folder, and they should be back. (note that this is assuming you don't change serials...if you do, then this gets far far FAR more complicated)

Q#5.4: I saw a guy with an NPC Skin!! Should I report him to Ives?
A: No, NPC Skinners aren't always cheaters. It's fairly easy to tell if one is a hacker or not, since they run around with items like Double Cannon or TJ Sword or something, or have other obviously hacked items and/or stats. There are, however, a few skinners (like myself) who play without lvl hacks or super duper weapon hacks. If you want to have a skin without hacking, just ask Ives, Pobega, Delta or a GM on a private server to NPC you into the skin you want.
The ONLY exception are GC users with skins. They cannot get a skin using the NPC command, and thus must use an Action Replay to get one. The only exception is the Ninja skin, which is the default skin when PC cannot load the character data (for example, FOmars, RAmarls, and HUcaseals, as well as in games which you join with GC users). However all other skins can be assumed to have been hacked on GC, and people with them can be assumed to be hackers since they had to use an AR to get the NPC skin in the first place.

Q#5.5: How do I get a skin, and which ones are available?
A: To get a skin, ask a GM to NPC you on a server where the GM's aren't idiots (AKA any server other than Anatar or KOTRT with GMs), or, if you have a private server, connect to it, type in

CODE
/gm (password)

and then type in

CODE
/npc 0-4 (username)

to give yourself a skin. The list of skins is below.

CODE
0: Ninja
1: Rico
2: Sonic
3: Tails
4: Knuckles

You can't get any other skins than the ones above, due to the fact that the character models are client sided, though you can hack the files to be different on your end...I won't go into detail on that, though.
PSO GC has 2 more NPC skins, but PC users will see them as fat HUmars, and GC users cannot be NPCed using the command, so I won't bother explaining it here.

Q#5.6: How do I access the dressing room?
A: Make sure you have 100,000 meseta in your inventory when you log off. When you start up your character, you should have the option of going to the dressing room instead of choosing that character to play.
Alternatively, you can use the Dressing Room hack in WMCCheat to have it always open; this also lets you change EVERYTHING about a character, and not just the hair and costume. However some people consider this unlegit, so don't use it if you don't have to.

Q#5.7: How do I tell a PC user apart from a GC user?
A: There are two options. One way is to have PSO GC and PSO PC on at the same time, and use PSO GC as a GC user detecter; this is the hard way. The easier way is to use the V1/GC Name Detection Patch, which makes all GC users have white names; the only problem is that it cannot detect some GC users correctly (example: Ep3 users, who have yellow names on GC, but white names on PC), and can't tell apart the few BB beta testers from the GC majority (this is a problem with all versions however, not just PC), but it's way better than NOT using the patch, so you might as well use it. You can find it on Pobega's site.

--------------------------------------------------------
||========================================||
||Section 6: Glossary of common terms used in PSO PC||
||========================================||
--------------------------------------------------------
Subsection 6.1: Common internet terms for those people who don't know them
WTF: What the f***
BRB: Be Right Back
AFK: Away from Keyboard
LMAO: Laughing my buttock off
ROFL: Rolling on floor laughing
LOL: Laugh out loud
ROFLMFAO: Rolling on floor laughing my f***ing buttock off
LMFAO: Laughing my f***ing buttock off
AFAIK: As far as I know, As for all I know (could mean either of them)
ATM: At the moment
AKA: Also known as
Subsection 6.2: PSO-related terms
RHG: Red Handgun
PB: Photon Blast, can also mean Photon Blast meter
HP: Hit Points, the meter at the top that shows how much health you have left
TP: Technique points, used for magic
Grants me!: Usually used when someone wants to have their PB meter raised using a glitch that lets attack techs be cast on players
A v1 item: Any item that was in PSO DC v1; usually extremely weak without major %'s on them, and always in a text colour OTHER THAN glowing orange
A v2 item: Any item that was introduced in PSO DC v2; all of them are in glowing orange text, and are usually far more powerful than a v1 item; usually much rarer too
An Srank weapon: A weapon gotten from Challenge mode, which can be named; usually the most powerful weapons in the game
Cmode: Challenge Mode
f1, f2: Forest 1 and 2
c1, c2, c3, c4, c5, c6, c7, c8, c9: Referring to challenge mode stages; when used in a regular game, it means the different levels of caves (only goes up to c3).
m1, m2: Mines 1 and 2
r1, r2, r3: Ruins 1, 2, and 3
f1 to Falz: The most common way of getting EXP; going through each level until the team destroys Dark Falz
TTF: Towards the Future, a quest that takes you through extremely tiny versions of the last level of each area, then fight the boss of that area; usually extremely quick, but not the quickest way of getting EXP.
EN1-4: Endless Nightmare quests; quests that have tons of enemies and get you loads of experience; usually done after a f1-Falz run.
Mop-up 1-4: Timed quests in which you must destroy every enemy in the area the quest takes place in before time runs out; most ultimate players despise these quests, except possibly mop up 1.
Legit: Playing the game without hacks/cheats, or playing with only minor hacks/cheats; the most common type of player on CA/Legit
Hacker/Cheater: A person who hacks (usually rare these days), or uses trainers/codebreaker/AR codes to cheat; the most common type of player on US/KOTRT.
Mophead: Usually used to refer to Broomop, but is also used as a term for cheaters using loads of cheats from Broomop's Trainer
Ives's Torrent: The most common version of PSO PC, and the only one this FAQ supports; all other versions are broken, so always use this one.
Broomop's installer: Crappy version of PSO PC that uses a shared serial, has no music at all, only has low end sound, and has many other very annoying bugs; not supported at all here
Unique serial: A serial gotten by emailing Schtserv@gmail.com; if you use the torrent version, use one of these!
Shared serial: A serial that is used so much that it now generates name-generated guild card numbers; it also happens to ruin your character and never let you switch to a unique serial, which is why everyone is against it
Anatar: A server full of super duper legits who refuse to play with people who have even the slightest hack; very strictly run, not a good idea to play here often unless you know you're 100% legit, and haven't gotten to ultimate yet Anatar is now officially dead, so don't bother looking there.
SDJZ: Shifta Deband Jellen Zalure, the support techniques. Shifta and Deband increase attack and defence power, respectively, and Jellen and Zalure decrease the enemy's attack and defence power, respectively.
GM: Game Master/Game Moderator; basically the moderators of the servers
Char: Short for character
GOE: God of Equip, a hack that lets you equip anything with any character; it's a kickable offence on CA/Legit
WTW: Walk Through Walls, a hack that does exactly what it says. Kickable offence on CA/Legit.
No weapon drop hack/Don't drop wep when you die hack/ect.: A hack that makes it so you don't drop your weapon when you die. One of the few patches that's allowed on CA/Legit.
See Wep in Lobby Hack/View Equip hack: A hack that lets you see other people's equipment in the lobby; as fas as I know, it doesn't work on BB users, though I'm not 100% sure if this is the case or not; has a side effect that causes you to retain your PB when you go up to Pioneer 2, which is the only reason why this patch is not considered to be very legit. Not a kickable offence on CA/Legit, but people do get annoyed by it sometimes, especially Ives.
Wep: Shorthand for Weapon
P2: Pioneer 2
Gems: Used to refer to the coloured spot in the middle of your PB meter; this determines what colour your cursor is, and what colour your telepipes are.
Pipe: A term that means either a Telepipe or a telepipe made via Ryuker. If someone asks for a pipe, use Ryuker or a Telepipe and tell them what colour to take.
Moons/Stars: Moon Atomizers/Star Atomizers, respectively. No need to explain, as they explain themselves fairly quickly after you get one.
Uber Rare: Usually refers to an item that has an almost impossible drop rate; if you get one from someone you don't know personally, chances are it's hacked. Drop Rate hack can make they drop like hotcakes too, so only trust uber rares that drop in games you or a personal friend made. The ONLY (and I mean only) exception are uber rare PSO PC items that are common on PSO GC; now that PSO GC is supported there is a higher chance that items like Frozen Shooters are legit if gotten from a GC user. Still could be considered cheating.
Droprate hack: A hack that makes the drop rate increase phenominally; this isn't a bannable offence on CA/Legit, but it's mighty rude, and usually if people figure out you're using it, they'll leave your game since everything that drops is hacked.
GC only item: An item that can only be found on PSO GC. On PSO PC they turn into items that are called ????. If you ever find a ???? item on PSO PC, try transfering it to PSO GC before throwing it away.
GC Compatability mode: Also known as cross platform mode; a mode in which PSO GC and PSO PC can play together; it's notoriously unstable, so most people only use it for transfering items.
SJS: Sealed J sword, an uber rare. On PSO GC it's possible to get one legitly, though the odds are against you. On PSO PC, you have a better chance of becoming more rich than bill gates than you do of finding a Sealed J sword, so don't bother looking for one on PSO PC.
DC: Disconnect; can also mean Dreamcast, but its general usage is for disconnect.
Subsection 6.3: Different PSO versions
PSO PC: PSO for Windows
PSO DC v1: PSO Dreamcast version 1
PSO DC v2: PSO Dreamcast version 2
PSO DC v2 EU: European version of PSO Dreamcast version 2; only version of PSO Dreamcast version 2 that will not permanently die off when Sega cuts support for it
PSO GC: PSO Gamecube; also known as PSO Episode 1 and 2 for Gamecube
PSO+: PSO Episode 1 and 2 +, an upgraded version of PSO GC
PSO Ep3: PSO Episode 3; many people hate this version because it's a card game, and no longer follows the traditional path of PSO games; however, it's still a fun game, though it doesn't work correctly on Schthack's server...
PSO XBOX: PSO Episode 1 and 2 for XBOX
PSO BB: PSO Blue Burst, an almost all server sided version of PSO with a few new additions, and a lot of stupid ideas thrown in; usually considered the worst PSO version by PSO PC/DC vets, though some liked it.
PSU: Phantasy Star Universe, an all new PSO-like game; not well thought of by the forum regulars, since it's going to cost lotsa money to play, and will never be supported by Schthack; it's not out yet, but from the info that's been released, what I said will probably be true when it comes out in late 2006. Supposedly it's gonna eat up 8 gigs of hard drive space, so if you plan on getting the PC version, make sure your comp can actually play it.

||Section 7: References for various resources||
||=================================||
----------------------------------------
#7.1: http://schtserv.funurl.com: Schthack's site; has news for the server, some useful downloads (the PPSOS comes to mind), and has a link to these forums. A nice site, but not exactly useful for people looking for useful tools.
#7.2: http://rodenta1031.myftp.org/AleronIves/PS...ce/splash.html: Aleron Ives's website; recently it was updated, and it now has TONS of downloads. Go check it out, it's far better now. Also has the PSO PC online readme now, so go check it out if you haven't ^.^
#7.3: http://www.pika.tk: Pika Unforgiven's PSO site. It has LOADS of trainers and patches, but most of them lack complete documentation. The most useful things here: the PSO PC torrent and Unknown's Ultimate Cheat patcher (also known as WMCCHEAT.exe); there are a lot of other programs for PSO here too, so check them out.
