Here's what I want to know: what is the funniest Monty Python sketch known to mankind? If you want, nominate one, but you have to provide either video or script. You can nominate more than one... link for scripts: http://www.ibras.dk/montypython/justthewords.htm Toastmaster: Gentlemen, pray silence for the President of the Royal Society for Putting Things on Top of Other Things. There is much upperclass applause and banging on the table as Sir William rises to his feet. Sir William: I thank you, gentlemen. The year has been a good one for the Society (hear, hear). This year our members have put more things on top of other things than ever before. But, I should warn you, this is no time for complacency. No, there are still many things, and I cannot emphasize this too strongly, not on top of other things. I myself, on my way here this evening, saw a thing that was not on top of another thing in any way. (shame!) Shame indeed but we must not allow ourselves to become too despondent. For, we must never forget that if there was not one thing that was not on top of another thing our society would be nothing more than a meaningless body of men that had gathered together for no good purpose. But we flourish. This year our Australasian members and the various organizations affiliated to our Australasian branches put no fewer than twenty-two things on top of other things. (applause) Well done all of you. But there is one cloud on the horizon. In this last year our Staffordshire branch has not succeeded in putting one thing on top of another (shame!). Therefore I call upon our Staffordshire delegate to explain this weird behaviour. As Sir William sits a meek man rises at one of the side tables. Mr Cutler: Er, Cutler, Staffordshire. Um ... well, Mr Chairman, it's just that most of the members in Staffordshire feel... the whole thing's a bit silly. Cries of outrage. Chairman leaps to feet. Sir William: Silly! SILLY!! (he pauses and thinks) Silly! I suppose it is, a bit. What have we been doing wasting our lives with all this nonsense? (hear, hear) Right, okay, meeting adjourned for ever. |

I'm actually not a big fan. Though some of their stuff is hilarious. |

To be, or not to be: that is the question. To die, to sleep; no more; and by a sleep to say we end. To die, to sleep; To sleep, perchance to dream. Ay, there's the rub. For in that sleep of death what dreams may come when we have shuffled off this mortal coil must give us pause. That makes calamity of so long life, for who would bear the whips and scorns of time when he himself might his quietus make with a bare bodkin? Who would fardels bear, to grunt and sweat under a weary life, but that the dread of something after death, the undiscover'd country from whose bourn no traveller returns, puzzles the will and makes us rather bear those ills we have than fly to others that we know not of? Thus conscience does make cowards of us all... | |

Monty Python isn't actually insanely popular in the US. |

I know it is! I live in the US! I'm just a really incredibly insanely devoted anglophile. In fact, I'm pretty sure I was British in another life...or at least born there and brought here before I grew up...I know a lot of Americans who like Monty Python. But that's ok, I can live with people not liking it! |
