![]() ![]() We finish out this road trip and the month of July in Kansas. Kansas, like Colorado, is languishing at the bottom of the table, so we need to beat teams like this consistently. 0-0 draws are not going to get things done. Lineup- ![]() Agudelo back in tonight, Gaudette stays in goal, and Attakora at centerback. Also, since I'm now low on centermids, Fagundez will start tonight in the AMC role. Hopefully this attacking formation can sting Kansas. Matchup- ![]() Really am only concerned about Convey, Kamara, and Zerka. We should win this match. Kickoff... GOAL 5' Attakora 0-1 Ahhh, those set piece goals! Tierney swings in a signature corner and Nana Attakora heads home a goal and gives the Revs a flyer. Seems like it's been awhile hasn't it? GOAL 42' Fagundez 0-2 Oh yes, he's sexy and he knows it. The diminutive midfielder has been on target all day and he doesn't miss here. Great build up by the Revs, Agudelo plays a one-two with Tierney on the left before laying the ball to a wide open Diego Fagundez. He puts all he has behind the ball and drives home the 2nd goal of the half. Beautiful! HT Kansas 0-2 New England Like in Colorado, my boys have all the possession and chances, but this time they have 2 goals to show for it. Let's keep the pressure on them and grab a few more! GOAL Gaudette OG 1-2 A Bobby Convey corner finds Zusi wide open in the box. Zusi heads toward the goal, but the ball hits off the bar and Gaudette somehow deflects the ball into his own net. Too bad, because Gaudette was having a real fine game before that. FT Kansas 1-2 New England Aside from the freak OG, well done by the boys today, they all played very well. Fagundez really played well in the AMC role tonight. Player performance GOOD: Nana Attakora had an 8.8 rating, but so did Tierney and his assist gives him the MOTM honors. BAD: No one. The East as of now- ![]() The win has us stay put in first place. Columbus lost to Salt Lake and Houston beat Seattle, thus Houston leaps up to 3rd. |

They don't call them the dogs days of summer for nothing, and this August is no exception for the Revs. Before we look ahead at what's to come, let's check to see how our July was-![]() In league, 3 wins, a draw, and a loss. Not bad at all for the Revs. We also won in the US Cup quarterfinal to set up a spot in the semifinal. Now, how do the tables look? ![]() ![]() Things are definitely taking shape in the West. Seattle are clear in 3rd by 10 points, which doesn't guarantee anything, but is a sizable lead with 10 or so games left. The East still seems somewhat up for grabs. I've only got a 5 point lead in 1st, NY and Houston are tied, and Columbus is only 2 points from both teams. Philly then is 7 points away, but Toronto and Chicago are there right behind them. |

Now we check August's schedule-![]() 6 MLS games and one cup game, so that means we have a busy month ahead. I believe that playoff spots will be won and lost in August. Oh, and the board emailed me this morning- ![]() Zerka? We traded him months ago! You really care about that? Gah, we're still bleeding money. In the offseason, I'll have to address our finances. |

![]() Last time we played San Jose, they kicked our butts 4-1. But that was then and this is now. We're going to get payback tonight! Our lineup ![]() Reis is back in goal tonight. I'm giving Reinaldo a start now that he is match fit, so no excuses! Smith, another youngster I've got, gets the start in the AMC spot. I hope he does well today. The matchup- ![]() Wondo has scored 17 goals so far this season. I assume he wants to add more tonight against us. It's up to our defense to stop him. If things get dicey, I can always go back to the 4-1-3-2 formation. Oh and by the way, looks like Mr. Yellow Card is here today. ![]() BE CONSISTENT TODAY PLEASE. Kickoff... GOAL 2' Attakora 1-0 That's how we do it. Barnes puts a long throw into the box, and for the 1st time this year, we get a goal from it. Nana Attakora heads the ball into the net for the game's first goal. GOAL 5' Wondolowski 1-1 San Jose hit right back, when a long cross finds Chris Wondolowski rising above Attakora to head the ball in. Attakora, just because you scored, doesn't mean you are not a defender anymore... Oh and by the way, between those two goals happening, within those 3', the genius referee gave a yellow to Joseph. Yeah, it's gonna be one of those days again... PENALTY NEW ENGLAND We're in August and we have our first penalty awarded. Took long enough didn't it? GOAL JOSEPH 2-1 Bernardez clatters into Agudelo in the box, and Toledo doesn't hesitate to point to the spot. He gives Bernardez only a yellow when it should have been a red card. I mean when a guy tackles another player in the box with two feet, that's a red card. And considering I've seen some pretty weak red cards given in FM 12, I wonder what Toledo was looking at. Toledo also gives Morrow a card for dissent. After all of that, Revs' captain Shalrie Joseph confidently steps up and converts easily to give the Revs back the lead. HT New England 2-1 San Jose We go into the half narrowly in front. And at the half, Mr. Card Happy has issued 8 yellows. Aside from the mental lapse of Attakora, the boys have been playing well. GOAL 51' Attakora 3-1 Once is good, but twice is nice. Tierney swings in a corner and Attakora doesn't miss from point blank range. Busch did get a touch to the ball, but Attakora put enough on it to see it trickle over for his 2nd goal. FT New England 3-1 San Jose Very well done boys, you did exceptional today against a team that seemed to have our number. However, I do sympathize with the 'Quakes- their team was given 9 yellow cards. NINE. It's hard to play soccer when you have an idiot running around giving you yellow cards for petty fouls. Player performance GOOD: Attakora gets the MOTM award with 2 goals and a 9.2 rating. BAD: No one, except the referee of course... Table as the end of today- ![]() NY, Columbus, and Houston being idle means I'm consolidating my first place spot with today's win. Chicago beat Philly, so beware of them- they can make a good run here, only 5 points out of 4th. Oh, and how did our ref do? ![]() ![]() shakes head Let's just move on... |

![]() We're up against another bottom feeder today, and once again I remind the boys that these games are more vital than playing the big clubs. By beating weaker teams, we keep the pace up in the standings. My lineup ![]() For the first time all season, I get those annoying little orange boxes next to my players' names telling me they need a rest. Well, ok, I guess that means more playing time for the non regulars. Matchup- ![]() Juan Pablo Angel is always dangerous in the box, so my centerbacks are tasked to stop him today. Kickoff... GOAL 17' Agudelo 1-0 Sloppy defending and cool finishing. After two Chivas USA defenders clatter the ball away from Sene, Parnaby picks it up on the right wing. The English defender crosses the ball in, and after it caroms off another Chivas defender, Juan Agudelo is there and slots in the game's first goal. HT New England 1-0 Chivas USA Playing well so far, even if it is my backups out there. Push on for that second goal so we can cement this result. GOAL 53' Agudelo 2-0 Beautiful counter attack. After a Chivas USA corner, the ball is cleared to Sene, who plays a delightful pass to Agudelo. The young American striker beats his last defender and puts in his 2nd of the game past Chivas keeper Kennedy. GOAL 57' Angel 2-1 This makes things a bit more nervy. Lahoud lays a pass to an open Zemanski. The midfielder shoots, only to have his shot cheekily deflected to opposite way by Juan Pablo Angel for the goal. GOAL 61' Moreno Oh no. Angel plays a through ball that evades Attakora and Alejandro Moreno fires in the equalizer. FT New England 2-2 Chivas USA Disappointing. How can you let a lesser team score 2 in the 2nd half? Good play to Agudelo and Parnaby, the seemed like the only ones who wanted to play today. Player performance GOOD: Agudelo with 2 goals and a 8.8 rating gets the MOTM honors. BAD: Barnes came on as a sub and didn't do well with a 6.4 rating. The table as it stands- ![]() Columbus lost, Houston lost and NY drew, so the top teams all stay where they're at this week. |

![]() These games just keep on coming, and these next three games feature us against Columbus, Houston, and New York. Remember when I said that August will determine playoff spots? Apply that directly here. 3 wins give us an excellent chance to make the playoffs. 3 losses though, and we might lose alot more than our 1st place spot. My lineup tonight- ![]() The usuals are back out there again, except for Feilhaber, he still needs a break or else he will become jaded. Fortunately Guti, aka Pretty Boy, is back from injury and will be eager to make an impact tonight. Matchup- ![]() The referee today- ![]() Rubs forehead Oh boy... Kickoff... GOAL 28' Agudelo 0-1 Alston takes the ball into the far right corner for the cross. He bends it in were Crew defender Chad Marshall tries to clear. However, he ends up booting the ball right into Juan Agudelo. The ball caroms of the striker into the net for the opening goal. HT Columbus 0-1 New England We go into the break with a slim lead. Columbus however have had some good chances and have been denied by good defending, or the crossbar. They look the more dangerous side right now. GOAL 54' Renteria 1-1 A Columbus free kick is spilled by Reis right to Emilio Renteria who poaches the equalizer. FT Columbus 1-1 New England Well, this result is about right from what I saw tonight. Both sides played well, just not well enough to win. Player performance GOOD: Agudelo is the only player over 7.2 today. BAD: Sene 6.0, Schilawski 6.2, Guti 6.5 Current table- ![]() Houston is idle, but NY creeps closer to the Revs with a win today. And how did this guy do? ![]() ![]() Par for the course. |

![]() Houston is our midweek opponent. We need to bounce back from the tame draw with Columbus with a win here at home. Lineup- ![]() Back to the ol' 4-3-3. I have zero depth at center mid right now, with Dulee being injured for another day or so. It's up to the strikers to grab the goals today. My wingbacks are getting days off so its Polak and Parnaby getting starts today. Here's how we matchup up today- ![]() We can be susceptible to 4-4-2 diamonds, so let's play our game, slow down the attack, and grind out another result. Pregame notes: Tonight is Feilhaber's 125th career league appearance and Barnes' 75th Revs appearance. Kickoff... GOAL 3' Feilhaber 1-0 The Revs get off to another flyer! Feilhaber works his way into the area and drives a low ball just past the glove of Dynamo keeper Tally Hall for the 1st goal of the evening. HT New England 1-0 Houston Feilhaber's goal is the difference so far. Both sides have played well, so expect an action packed second half. PENALTY New England PENALTY MISS Goalie Save Luis Camargo clatters Attakora during a corner kick, and Mr. Hernandez points to the spot. Revs captain Joseph takes the spot kick, but it is well saved by the Dynamo keeper Hall. GOAL 67' Boswell 1-1 Sturgis puts in a corner kick and Bobby Boswell rises up and heads in the equalizer. GOAL 94' Joseph 1 2-1 Better late than never, and Shalrie Joseph erases his earlier penalty miss with a fine long range strike outside the box and in the nick of time. FT New England 2-1 Houston The Rev captain makes up for his miss with a late goal and the Revs grab the win tonight at home. Well played guys. Player performances GOOD: Benny Feilhaber with the MOTM award with a 7.6 rating BAD: Both Polak and Schilawski at 6.6 never got it working tonight. League table then looks like this- ![]() Both NY and Columbus didn't play today, so since we beat Houston, nothing changes on the table and we build a 9 point lead with 8 games to go. |

![]() The Big Rematch. A lot has changed since we last faced NY. Now we are the top dogs is 1st place, NY in 2nd. NY fired their head coach Backe and signed Sven Eriksson. I picked up young striker Juan Agudelo from their reserve team. Needless to say, this is another one of the big matches this year for us. If we win, we open a massive 12 point lead for 1st. If we lose, NY will gain ground and be only 6 points out with a game in hand. Here is the lineup- ![]() Unfortunately, due to injuries and fixture congestion, we are being forced to play the 4-3-3 and I have to send out some tired midfielders with little depth today. I'm hoping that despite this they play hard enough for the win. New signing Dulee Johnson will receive the #7 jersey tonight. Matchup- ![]() I'm a bit surprised that they're playing a 4-5-1 with Cooper on the wing. Wouldn't he be better in his natural forward position? Last time they sent a 4-4-2 against us so clearly Sven is trying things out tactically here. Kickoff... GOAL 7' Agudelo 1-0 Beautifully worked goal! Sene plays a pass to Reinaldo, who then splits the defense with a perfect pass to Juan Agudelo. The former Red Bull has acres of space and doesn't miss, giving the game its first goal after 7'. HT New England 1-0 New York Agudelo's 6th goal of the season is the difference at the half. Rev captain Joseph had to be taken off injured midway through the half, so Dulee Johnson is on for his first club appearance. PENALTY New England MISS Off the bar Agudelo is clattered in the box, and the referee doesn't hesitate to point to the spot. With Joseph off the pitch, its Tierney to try and convert. However his shot clangs off the upright and out of play. We're 1 for 3 in penalties this year...not good. FT New England 1-0 New York We are happy to win the game, but at what cost? My midfielders are dropping like flies right now, both Joseph and Guti taken off injured. How will that affect our end of the season run? Player performance GOOD: Juan Agudelo gets the MOTM with the game's only goal and a tame 7.3 rating BAD: Feilhaber, Sene, and substitute Schilawski never got things going with 6.0 ratings. Well how does the table look now- ![]() We open a massive 12 point lead on 1st place with 7 games left. Houston wins today as well and they're level on points with NY. Columbus drew and now they are starting to fade away 4 points out of 3rd with Philadelphia creeping up from behind. What a story would that be? Philly was the worst team, stuck on a point for several games- now they are just that close to making a playoff spot. Good for them. |

![]() Well, the captain is out, which is unfortunate too, because he might have broken the club appearance record this year. Luckily, Guti is only out for a week, and Clyde Simms recently came back from injury, so the centermidfield isn't totally depleted like I thought. |

![]() The 8 days between games gives my team a much need rest after facing Columbus, Houston, and NY in the past week. I still have positional issues because some players coming back from injury are not fully fit yet, but for this game we'll just have to get by. Lineup- ![]() We have our US Cup semifinal ahead in a few days, so I wanted to rest as many key players as I could. Unfortunately since I still have midfielders out, that means guys like Feilhaber, Johnson, and Simms will have to grind it out the next few days. Matchup- ![]() Rollin' the 4-3-3 out again. Le Toux and Pajoy have been vital for Philly's rise in the standings. They've each got 12+ goals this year. Kickoff... GOAL 9' Reinaldo 0-1 The Brazilian gets his first Rev goal! Parnaby crosses the ball in from the right. Reinaldo and Union defender Danny Califf meet, but its the striker who wins the ball and slides in the opening goal. GOAL 28' Tierney 0-2 Chris Tierney takes a free kick for the Revs just outside the box. He places a nice shot into the far corner and out of reach of the Union goalkeeper. GOAL 31' Davis 1-2 Parnaby fouls Brad Davis outside the penalty area. The midfielder kicks a nice free kick of his own into the top corner to bring back a goal for Philly. HT Philadelphia 1-2 New England Playing well so far, but Philly have gotten a goal back. They have threatened at times so we can't get complacent here. GOAL 71' Pajoy 2-2 Lionard Pajoy receives a nice pass into space. He is completely unmarked and scores an easy goal one-on-one with Gaudette. Where's the defending? GOAL 85' Califf The big defender makes us for his error earlier in the game to score a header from a corner kick and he gives Philly the lead. While Nowak is probably celebrating, I sit quietly on the bench thinking of the US Cup semifinal coming up... FT Philadelphia 3-2 New England Fair play to Philly, our boys were just never up to it today. I blame our formation, but with injuries, what can a manager do on such short notice? This loss beats our 9 game unbeaten run, so I guess we had to lose sometime. Player performance GOOD: Tierney and Schilawski both did well at 7.4 ratings. BAD: Lots of players The table as it stands- ![]() NY lost to LA today, so we didn't lose ground to them with our loss. Houston and Columbus were both idle. |

![]() Here we are, all the way from the 1st qualifying round to today, the US Cup semifinal match with Richmond. Could be worse right? The winner today will play either the Rochester Rhinos or the Bradenton Academics. Tonight's lineup- ![]() Feilhaber is away on international duty, so that complicates things a little. I'm going back to a 4-3-1-2 formation in the hopes that our strikers will now have more space and that my AMC can create enough havok for this lower league side. The matchup- ![]() C'mon guys, let's show 'em who's boss today! No cupsets!!! Kickoff... HT Richmond 0-0 New England It's been all New England so far in terms of possession and chances...but not goals!!! That's what we need to win, remember fellas? Go out there and put this game away! GOAL 61' Sene 0-1 Finally a breakthrough. Agudelo chips in a nice little pass for Saer Sene and he buries his 10th goal of the season. FT Richmond 0-1 New England We really are scraping these victories aren't we? We didn't have a bad day really, but not a good one either. We need to bury these goals and stop wasting chances against minor teams like this. We had 20 shots on goal, but only 8 on target. Player performance GOOD: Lozano gets the MOTM award today. He's actually pissed at me for not playing him as much as he wants, so kind of ironic that he gets the award in this game. BAD: No one. The Rochester Rhinos beat the Cinderellas IMG Bradenton today. We'll face Rochester in the Final! |
