Say whaaaa?

Talk about a short leash, getting canned for being in 3rd place? What a turn around- Beginning of the season NY couldn't lose- now they are losing and the NY board have apparently have had enough. Yikes.

Well that's annoying

Then again, it isn't like pretty boy here has done much this season. 6.72 rating in 19 appearances? Yeah, the only thing we'll miss is his hairstyle, maybe...

Posted Image QUARTERFINAL

Posted Image vs. Posted Image
Our next game is a US Cup Quarterfinal round against Kitsap Pumas. Amazingly, LA got knocked of the competition a day before we played, so as of now, we are the sole MLS representative in the US Cup. Kind of sad for the MLS, but good for the lower league teams I guess.

Lineup-

Posted Image

Going to try out another formation, a 4-3-1-2. Maybe the AMC will give better attacking options up front. With Kitsap being such a lower team, I'm not figuring we'll need the extra help in the defense tonight.

Matchup-

Posted Image

Looks like we're up against a bunch of unknowns today. Let's not lose sight of the ultimate goal and get a good win against these part-timers.

Kickoff...

GOAL 36' Soares 1-0
Lackluster game erupts with a goal. It's another set piece special, Tierney corner to AJ Soares and the centerback doesn't miss from point blank range. Welcome back young man!

HT New England 1-0 Kitsap
Well we have a lead going into the half, that's something considering Feilhaber got taken off injured in the 3' and Rowe taken off injured in the 11'.

GOAL 83' Agudelo 2-0
Well that should do it for this game. We've had possession literally the whole match and now it shows. Sene wrestles the ball away from Kitsap defender Downing and crosses the ball into the box where Juan Agudelo deftly puts it into the back of the net. Well done boys.

FT New England 2-0 Kitsap
Only scored 2 goals, but we had so much possession the result was in little doubt. I'm glad the Revs went out today and played professionally, getting the job done against a much weaker opponent.

Player performance
GOOD: Several did well today, but it's AJ Soares with the MOTM honors having a goal and a 8.3 rating.
BAD: Fellow centerback Barnes never got going at all, getting a 6.1 for some reason.

Luckily Feilhaber doesn't have a long term injury after the match, but youngster Rowe is out for awhile. He doesn't play much, but I don't like seeing young guys picking up injuries.

I must have missed seeing him there! Good to hear the US boss was here looking at my team for talent at the international level. If anything, that's what I want to produce for America- solid home grown talent. We can't keep having our national team filled with international talent. In order to really compete at the national level, our league needs to foster great talent at home, in America.

Today is the 15th of July, so we bring in two new fresh faces-

Posted Image

Posted Image

Both will be able to provide depth at their positions as we make the long haul towards the end of the season, and maybe, hopefully, into the playoffs. I have both until the end of the season, so if things don't work out, I can always let them go with little risk to the club. Parnaby will have to prove himself for sure, as he has to compete with Alston and Graye, as well as Attakora who has proven he can play rightback too. Reinaldo on paper is better than all my other forwards, and his signing might make me turn back to the 4-3-3 just so we can have more room for rotating the strikers I have.

Just taking a look at our past fixtures to see how our form is of late-

Posted Image

Ever since losing big to San Jose, the Revs have been very successful, winning 7, drawing 2, and losing 1. Hopefully we can keep up the pace with a home win over Philly today.

Here is my lineup for tonight's game-

Posted Image

We're back to the 4-3-3 for this one. Reinaldo and Parnaby are making their Revs debuts tonight, so here's to them doing well back in competitive soccer. Tierney cannot play tonight since he is serving a yellow card suspension.

By the way, Agudelo was given the #11 shirt last game, and Reinaldo and Parnaby will receive the #12 and 2 shirts tonight.

Matchup-

Posted Image

Philly are 7 points away from in 5th, so we can't take them for granted. Le Toux, Davis, Carroll, and Califf are players that play well for them and ones we need to shutdown.

Kickoff...

HT New England 0-0 Philadelphia
A drab match so far. Philly looks the better side though. I'll keep an eye on player performance and may need to switch up tactics to get this win.

GOAL 87' Agudelo 1-0
Yes! Great finish by the young American! After a few subs and a change in formation, the my tactics pay off. Good Rev possession leads to Feilhaber dribbling freely through the midfield. He plays a one-two with Schilawski before playing an excellent through ball to Juan Agudelo. The young striker is onside and puts it into the net for what surely must be the winning goal. Philly claims for offside abound as they swarm the referee, but he calmly waves them away.

FT New England 1-0 Philadelphia
A poor match, but we get the win and the points, so does style really matter at this point? Didn't think so.

Player performances
GOOD: Agudelo grabs the MOTM award with the game's only goal and a 7.4 rating.
BAD: Reinaldo. He didn't have a good game at all with a 6.0 rating.

Reinaldo had a terrible debut, but Paranby on the other hand did well, receiving a 7 rating. He probably would have done better but an injury made me sub him out earlier than wanted. I had my reservations signing a Brazilian, so please Reinaldo, don't make this a trend.

Table as it stands-

Posted Image

The Revs and NY won, so couple that with Columbus losing a tight one 3-4 to San Jose, both teams head into 1st and 2nd. I have a feeling this tight race in the East will go down to the wire.

Now for a midweek game against DC United.

My lineup-

Posted Image

Saer Sene is back in the lineup, as is Tierney who missed our last game due to a yellow card suspension. Going back to the 4-1-3-2 again. I'm positive that 3 frontmen cannot allow enough space for each striker to play properly.

Matchup-

Posted Image

De Rosario is a guy to watch out for, as is Salihi. McDonald and Jakovic provide good cover at the back, so my strikers will have their work cut out today.

Kickoff...

GOAL 9' Sene 0-1
Bill Hamid's cleansheet streak is over after 9' of play. Feilhaber crosses the ball in from the wing and the tall striker Saer Sene rises over the defender Brandon MacDonald to head the ball into the top corner.

HT DC United 0-1 New England
Aside from the early goal, pretty unremarkable match so far. We again need another goal so we can put the game out of reach for the Red and Black.

GOAL 90' Sene 0-2
And that'll wrap the game up. Sloppy play by Jakovic allows Sene to poach the ball, then he puts on a cheeky move to round Hamid and score his second of the game.

FT DC United 0-2 New England
A good win for us and for Sene who now has nine goals on the season. We sweep the season series with DC United, the first team we've done that to this year.

Player performance
GOOD: Sene is the obvious choice for MOTM grabbing 2 goals and an 8.8 rating.
BAD: No one.

So, the table as it is-

Posted Image

Columbus lost yet again today, so with us winning we stay in first ahead of NY who also won today. Our next opponent is Colorado, so we need to get on our next flight ASAP and head to the Rockies to acclimate to the higher elevation.

The squad list for the All-Star game came out today!!

Posted Image

Very happy for Benny to get into the All-Star game. I wonder why the voters didn't take anyone else on my team, like Tierney (leads league in assists), Schilawksi, Soares, or Attakora, all of which have better average ratings than Feilhaber. Maybe because Feilhaber is the most well-known player on the Revs? In any case, congrats the Benny and I hope he plays well.

In a few days time, we're playing again, this time in Colorado facing the Rapids. Colorado won it all last year, but they've struggled all season long and find themselves in 9th in the West.

Here's how we lineup tonight-

Posted Image

Not too much rotation since we last played, just Gaudette in goal, Barnes in at centerback, and Schilawksi up front with Sene.

The matchup-

Posted Image

Colorado is throwing a 4-5-1 at us and it seems to me awhile since we faced that kind of formation. Let's see how my 4-1-3-2 fares against it today.

Pre-kickoff notes: This is Sene's 125th career league appearance. The young guy already has a lot of playing time! And poor Zack hasn't scored in 409 minutes, I hope he can grab a goal today!

Kickoff...

HT Colorado 0-0 New England
Not much going on here. We've had a majority of possession and chances, but can't seem to make it count yet.

FT Colorado 0-0 New England
Again, we have the lion's share of chances and possession, but never had the ability to score a goal for the win.

Player performace
GOOD: AJ Soares gets the MOTM in an otherwise unremarkable game.
BAD: Sene has a poor return after scoring 2 goals last game.

The table as of now-

Posted Image

NY was idle, so we didn't distance ourselves as much as we could've. Both Houston and Columbus won, so now they're closing the gap on the Revs.

More injury news-

Posted Image

This is not good. I'm using 4 center midfielders right now and have little depth for that position. This injury definitely doesn't help things as we trudge on towards a heavy scheduled August. Time to look to the transfer market.
