I can't do it anymore, I just can't. I can't...eat...something that has a heart, a mind. *shakes head* The way they treat the animals in the warehouses for places like KFC...god only knows what they do to the cows. It's horrible. I can't...argh. :(

From now on, I'm going strickly veggie. No chicken, no pork, no beef, no fish. I don't care. I can't support the horrible things they do to these animals.

I was thinking about it the other night and...is it really so different from murder? I mean, okay. People kill animals for food. Well...so does Hannibal Lectar. But he's classified as a pycho murderer. But he's killing for food. How's it different? Where's the line? Just because animals can't talk? I don't get it.

Anyways. Just something that was on my mind.

What do you think about it all?

Good luck! I've been learning about how they treat animals that they use for food too and it eally is so sad. I honestly never used to really think about where our food comes from. Well, they say ingorance is bliss and it really is because now that I know I am extremely squeamish about eating meat. I've often thought about turning vegetarian but I've never taken that step fully yet. I've switched to quorn sausages and quorn chicken now and buy things like quorn lasagne etc. But I will still eat some meats. For me it's more of just feeling very very queasy thinking about how this thing on your plate actually used to be alive.

Do you think you'll have enough variety in your diet if you don't eat meat? That's what I always wonder, I'm not sure I'd be eating the right things if I went vegetarian. I don't like many vegetables and stuff so I'd really just have to rely on quorn products.

Awh noo.

Even Veggie need some other type of protein that's why Fish is better and Chicken. I would look through books first and come up with a diet. Also talk to a doctor if you can just to get pointers.

Cows it's even more horrible, I hardly drink milk now because of it. As for the meats, when it's just offered or I'm VERY hungry.

If you think you can do it go for it! i don't blame you for going Veg.

I eat meat and I don't have a problem with it. If I were to give up meat because of ethical issues, I would also have to give up eggs and milk, and for me that's a sacrifice too far. I couldn't refuse to eat meat because it's cruel, and then go on to eat what is essentially a chicken's foetus.

That being said, I don't eat a huge amount of meat, because I enjoy many vegetarian foods. With the right combination of pulses, beans and veg, you can easily have a balanced diet as a vegetarian.

Well see, thinking about the protein and that sort of thing, well...I'll eat more beans LOL. I've always loved fruit and veggies, and I'm not really picky in that direction; I'll eat most anything. And they do have those veggie bacon/beef/chicken products that are actually really tasty.

For me, I don't think I could go vegan (no cheese/milk/eggs etc). Because THAT can be done without harm to animals. And it's hard to go out to a resturant and eat vegan, where as anywhere will have at least one vegetarian item on the menu.
You can get eggs from FREE RANGE (sorry, that's not ment to be yelling/angry sounding LoL) chickens that can run free and aren't horribly treated. Milk, from free range cows, that sort of thing.

I don't eat a lot of meat anyways...It's not a gigantic leap to cut it out entirely for me. The trouble is, my mum is not on the same boat with me. She eats meat, makes it for dinner, blah blah, that sort of thing. It'll be hard to stick to veggie with that going around LOL.

There are certainly ways to eat more ethically, in terms of both the welfare of the animal and the moral issues. For example, what meat I do buy comes from a farm shop where I know all of the animals are hand reared and well cared for. (The bonus with this is the meat is of a higher quality too).

But yes, there is nothing in your diet that meat provides that you cannot obtain elsewhere. It can indeed be a very healthy way of eating. One of the downsides is that restaurants are often still very limited in the veggie selection they provide, but Vegetarian restaurants are becoming more popular (in the UK at least - we have a fantastic one near us).

For sure ^_^ There are a couple around here that I know of..never been to yet, but they are fully Vegetarian. There's this one that we go to a lot, it's not Vegetarian, but they have an option on the menu that says you know, 'if you want a vegetarain meal, just ask and ye shall recieve" LOL. So that's pretty cool :)

Now that sounds like an excellent place to go!

My favourite veggie meal would probably be spinach and ricotta canneloni. I don't care where I am, if it's on the menu I'm definitely choosing it!

Oo yea, I love that. There's this one dish I want to try making myself, it's so easy. It's a chic-pea salad dip thing. Chicpeas, feta cheese...some other stuff LOL. It looks really good :P
And I would try this vegetarian curry that looks good, but my mum doesn't like curry :P LOL

I do eat meat but mainly white, as in chicken and fish. I don't tend to eat anything else. And i have to admit some of my fave foods now is actually veg and fruit. I've been dieting for 2 weeks now, *don't ask how its going, i've binged the past two days* and ok yeah i've had meat *chicken and fish* but i've really enjoyed the veg and fruit i've had... its lovely.
I think its great that your doing this Nienna, and i applaude u totally. I dont think i could give up on the two meats i eat when i do eat them. And i know u can get all the right things like vitamins and protin and that from various veg. i'd research it and check it on the net and even see your Dr with it cause i am possitive i saw a programme a few yrs back on with a chef who was worried with her daughter who was veggi and not getting enough of something where it was found it this one veg. for the life of me i can not remember what the hell it was, but i know it was there.
Blessed be, Geo Toni x~X~x

Hows your vegetarianism coming along, Nienna?

I am seriously considering going veggie too now. I have a list of meats that turn my stomach and lately the only things not on the list were sausages and bacon. But I had some sausages the other day and they were making me wretch.

My vegan friend showed me this website. I haven't been brave enough to look yet.

Don't look unless you A) have a strong stomach, and/or B) are serious and willing to become Veggie. I don't know if it's so much the *site*, but the video they play upon entering the site.

Well, I had a bit of a stumble for a while; it's so hard because my mum doesn't really share the same want to be veggie LOL. But i've been doing what I can :) I get these great veggie/vegan meats from the grocery store, veggie sausages, chicken fingers..there's burgers, all sorts of stuff :) *thumbs up* :P

Try and find...I think it's Yves sausages. They come in like, a divided pack of 8, so they're all sealed seperatly to keep them fresh. They are really good :) The chicken, also, doesn't even taste fake! It's a little spicy, but otherwise, great with ketchup :P

Ooh yeah I think I've heard of those Yves sausages. I also already eat a lot of quorn sausages and mince and chicken burgers. So it probably wouldn't be a huge leap for me to cut out the little meat I do eat. Only thing is my family all eat meat so liek you it will mean having a completely different diet from anybody else.

I still haven't looked at that video...I dont' have a strong stomach at all. I think I will wait until i've cut out meat altogether.

Another product that is really good is from, or I guess I should say, another brand of veggie stuff that's really good is 'Garden patch', I think it's called. They're the ones that have the veggie chicken fingers, other kinds of mushroom burgers, I think they have something like a breaded spinach thing, I haven't tried that one yet though, but it all looks really good :)

The great thing about 'going veggie' now-a-days is that there's becoming more and more variaty of veggie foods and different sorts of meat products being turned around and having a veggie alternative.

Did that make sense? LOL
