As for us, We are having our usual Blowout out here on the Farm. I just got through taking the Brisket and Rolled Bologna off of the smoker, tomorrow I will smoke the Pork Ribs and we will have Burgers and Dogs for all the kids. Mom is making her famous Tater salad which everyone always enjoys. I am expecting 20 to 30 people mostly family and a few friends. We will have the annual fishing derby at the pond. I caught , tagged and released the prize fish yesterday. The winner ; assuming the fish is caught, gets $30 and a big wet kiss from this years queen of festivities which is always Mom. We always pray for the nation and leaders and all our troops and vets alive and gone. Then we fill ourselves up with the best barbeque you ever wrapped a lip around and after that we have watermelon and home made ice cream and wild blackberry cobbler. After everyone is thoroughly stuffed to the gills and miserable we usually either swim or play horseshoes and start getting ready for the Shiloh Extravaganza (fireworks show). We shot up about $300 altogether, last year and this year will probably exceed that. We also get to see all the fireworks going off around the Lake which is only a half mile away. And after that well, I goes to sleep and then, wakes up to clean up the mess on Saturday. A good time is always had by all and it is really the highlight of the summer for us. Hope everyone has a great time and GOD bless all of you as we mark this, the birthday of our Great Nation.

Sounds like a good time GB! We've got some good, old friends coming over - steaks on the grill, sweet corn, salt potatoes, and I just pulled a couple of nice looking pies out of the oven - peach and strawberry/rhubarb! Happy and thought-filled Fourth everybody! |

Ribs on the grill, potato salad, fresh shucked corn, a relish tray, hamburgers, and chicken. Followed by homemade ice cream and a homemade apple pie. We'll get out later and check out the big fishing rodeo and all the motorcycles (and cyclists) that are here for bike week and then see the fireworks at 9 pm. (Dinner will be ready at 3 pm and seating is limited so y'all better hurry up and get here.) |

It's a little late this year Steve, next year it's at your house and you have to clean up the mess. I hope you have room for about 30.

No big plans here at my house. I hung the flag on it's regular mount so I could see it flying, but we fly it most everyday anyway except when it rains. I had a big day yesterday and need to use today to rest up. We had some grilled burgers and skis-kabobs for lunch along with a large glass of tea. Then I watched a DVD movie that I purchased a couple of days ago. The rest of the day will be to just take it easy and try to stay cool....it's 94 degrees outside right now. I hope everyone has a good Independence Day!

I got my butt out of bed early, had some coffee and moved the flag from half-mast to full mast. I know MAJ would not have wanted it any other way than this. Fallen and not forgotten - and showing our nation's strength on this day after his journey home was complete, and his mission complete. I will send you all an email. Then hooked up the boat and went and did some fishing. Caught two walleye and thanked the Lord for such a beautiful morning on the water and the added bonus of two TASTY and beautiful fish. From there I met up with our local PGR chapter to participate in a small town Fireman's Picnic and parade. It was hard to hold back the emotions, as you marched down the street (sorry I don't have a bike, would love to have one, but led our group with banner) and those that recognized who and what PRG is about let out loud "THANK YOU's", cheers, and applause. I know our ride captain certainly will probably remember that day well. Had to leave the group shortly after having a brat and something to drink (no beer yet - just water, had to drive about 60 miles yet) because fish were still in the livewell and didn't want boiled fish before they were ready to eat - they survived OK and were still fresh when I got home to clean them. After cleaning the fish, did some grass cutting and about half-way thru that - the celebratory beers were starting to get poured. Had a fish-fry with the neighbors and some more beers. Now I'm finishing the day off telling yous guys what I did and then hitting the sack OK, ONE more beer before we hit the sack, and a little patriotism from John Wayne for yous guys: http://sagebrushpatriot.com/america.htm

CW Thanks for the link and John Wayne's words. I have heard it before but it always makes my heart swell with pride in this great land. I did not do much but spend some time with the family which I always enjoy. That being said I found out today that another set of remains; which my teams brought home in 1998, were identified and the Soldier was finally laid to rest within his home ground and this great nation. This made my Independence Day GREAT. You can read about the soldier under the Military Topics section of the Mountain. Our POW/MIA ARE NOT FORGOTTEN |

Well, I know that I'm living in the land of the free and the home of the brave! Still doing dishes at 9:00 pm, the fireworks started down at the lake - grabbed my flash light and camera, tripped over Bud as he made a b-line into the house to go under the bed, and I ran down the road to watch the fireworks!! My camera said 'low battery' - I wish I could've shared some pictures of them with you all. What a sight they were to see! They made my heart grow two sizes! |

There is a field behind my house and on the other side are apartments. Someone with unauthorized fireworks, not allowed in the city limits, set a tree and brushes on fire. Fire department is still there and idiots are on the other side of the apartments still setting off more. <_< Looks like only the tree and bushes sustained damage.

Well another fourth in the books, We had a great day. It went about as planned except we had a little excitement when three of the younguns decided to go exploring on their own but, we found them and the hogs and the mountian lions didn't get em. The Barbeque was great as usual. The prayer time before the meal was very meaningful and I couldn't help but, notice a couple of tears stream down the face of my Step-Dad who served in Korea and Vietnam when we prayed for all the Vets and active duty Troops. The Fireworks where awesome, I got some neighbors that shoot some real high tech stuff over by the Lake every year and a good friend of mine down the road that has a homemade cannon. We heard it several times today. I also heard several burst of fire from various weapons around. I think we are surrounded by some well armed neighbors. All in all a great day but, I am bushed and headed for the sack. Good night all

Happy 4th of July everyone! We had a great time at my son's house. It was his debut of his new backyard. He's been working on it on weekends. He laid new sod, poured cement to put his new grill station on and put up his new pool. He did a great job! His wife made pulled pork sandwiches, potato salad, baked beans, cucumber salad and he grilled the ribs. The kids kept themselves busy having fun in the pool and the slip and slide while we enjoyed telling stories while sipping Pina Coladas and Mojitos, (mostly for the women) and the guys had their beer. Fireworks were canceled in Chula Vista we're they've had them for years. They said they couldn't afford it. I don't believe it. <_< The kids went down to the bay where we have a view from several other cities fireworks. It was a really good time with family and friends. God Bless America
