I keep getting calls and when I answer the phone no one is there. The numbers showed up on caller I.D. The same number called 3-4 times a day. Finally when I answered someone was on the line. Sounded Foreign. I was so mad that I told him to get a Supervisor and now. He got one and when the supervisor got on the phone I let him have it and I told him I was calling the cops . He got all nervous and said he would take me off the call list right away. He did and the funny thing is I never asked who they were . I was so mad. Guess what . I am now getting the same crap but this time it is another number and when I answer it no one is there. This number is a 877 number. I hope to answer the phone and there will be a voice on the other end because I am ready to rip them. :jus-passin-thru:

No matter what happens to our nation or the world, there are some that just see it as another chance to beg for money. Most of the calls we get are for more money. Most of the mail we get is an appeal for money. Funny how we never get calls or mail giving us money.

Actually, we got rid of our land line for that very reason and now those calls are no problem.

I have no problem hanging up on a telemarketer at any time.

Whenever I hear the distinctive pause before connection which is the telemarketers automatic call distribution system directing the 'answered' call to a call center agent, I automatically hangup.

Whenever I hear, "Hello, I'm calling for Idiots-R-Us and would like ..." --- too late, already hung up.

Whenever I hear, "Mr uhhhhh James ... uhhhhhh Homeless ..." --- too late, already hung up.

Whenever I hear, "Hi, may I speak with Darlene?" --- now I don't know anyone named Darlene but I tell them, "Sorry Darlene isn't available, she got busted last night for DUI (or drugs possession, or whatever)" ... requests for Juanita got her deported

Now that if funny. I just give them hell and threaten to call the cops. They don't call back !!! If they call back and ask for Rick again I am going to say he got deported like you did. :garfield:

I'd try that Tom but I don't always think too fast ... It would probably come out like ...

"Sorry didn't you hear? I was killed in a car wreck last night"

Our son used to work for Zogby (doing polls) quite a few years back, so he knows what it's like to 'bother' people! He and I both answered the phone the other day when a pollster called, pronounced our last name wrong and started in with his spiel. Without much hesitation, he said 'I'm sorry, but I'm not interested right now in your poll', and the man on the other end of the line said; "I understand sir, but you're really being quite rude"! I heard my son say, "You want to hear rude?" ...and that's when I clicked off the downstairs phone!! We haven't gotten any more of those phone calls!

Ali,

Arrrrggghhhhh, don't you hate it when the 'rude one' says you are the one being rude? It should be legal to reach thru the phone, grab someone around the neck, and squeeze!!!

If I'm feeling pretty mellow and playful, I'll sometimes interrupt and ask the caller why he/she thinks I'm stupid? They usually reply that they don't think that at all ... I then proceed to tell them that they must because their call is proof that they believe I don't have the sense God gave a goose to know that I need a product without being told about during supper by some idiot reading off a script posted to their cubicle wall. We usually terminate the conversation shortly thereafter.

Sometimes that "do not call" list just doesn't work Dawg! Pete's been known to tell a few where to go, too! I worry mostly about my Mom. She's 84 and hard of hearing. I'm always reminding her not to give out personal information over the phone. Just last week (she says) she got a call from Hillary Clinton asking for her vote and proceeded to say; "your husband is an SOB and you should've left him and we don't need any milk toast running our Country who's going to cry at the drop of a pin"! "Do you think that was to much information Ali"? No Ma, you did just right!!
