The age of having to throw away pics is about over. Digital makes that easy now. I almost never print a picture these days. I carry a PDA and phone for those times when I want to share and do most of my sharing over sites like photobucket. The current age of photography seems to me to be the best age of photography. You have to remember that a picture (andy picture) is a snapshot of history, if nothing else. Often, the photo gathers value over time because of the surroundings, not the subject. This is the best opportunity we have ever had to leave a visual legacy for future generations - and the cheapest! Take a thousand photos today and you don't even harm the environment unless you print them and that is minimal since most printer ink is water based. |

Yeah, tried the digital thing. Whata PITA. After the puter took a dump and lost a bunch I started putting them on discs. Now most puters don't come with a 3 1/2 in floppy. You have to special order it. Wonder how long before I'll have to switch everything to some other media??? |

Herb, what I did was bought myself an external drive to store all my photos, documents and anything else that I want. I got a 320 GB Seagate external drive from Wally-World for about 130 bucks. The prices have come down and you can get one for less than that now. It just plugs into one of the USB ports on your computer and recognizes itself when you plug it in. You can set it to where anything you want to save will save over to it. Then if your computer crashes, you still have all your stuff on the external drive. Get your computer fixed, plug the external drive up and all your stuff is still there. What's good about it is, you can unplug it, carry it along with you, plug it into another computer that has a USB port and see everything you have from the other computer.

James, You mean a 320 Gigabyte drive don't you? I bought a couple 200Gb Seagate externals for home use too. I think I paid something like $80 each. Its a great drive, I really like it. |

Just too much trouble to keep it on 2 drives. I have thought about installing a second drive and using a mirror program to maintain the second as identical to the first. It is completely automatic and writes to the second drive when the computer is shut down. If a drive crashes then you just switch the backup to the primary, install a new second drive and start the process over again. My son was telling me that they are doing that in his business and they never lose data, now. |

We definitely got spoiled this year CW! It's been in the high 70's even 80's for the last couple of weeks. I was so happy I nearly killed myself cleaning up the winter mess outside. Next week isn't looking so sunny and warm, but it's not looking close to what you've got coming. |
