Walter Reed Hospital, Friday, November 9, 2007

It was a fairly chilly and wet night with enough of a drizzle to make everything very aggravating. About 40-50 GoE, Protest Warriors, and Freepers, and one 'self-described' Lone Lurker showed up at their four corners of the main entrance to Walter Reed Army Medical Center. We stayed on post from (prior to) 1730 or 5:30pm until 2130 (9:30) when we began moving back to our cars and trucks to head home. Flags were plentiful and a supporting spirit was even more evident. Ain't no steeeeenkin' rain gonna stop us from supporting out troops and America!!!

Moonbats showed up late at 'THEIR' assigned protest area ... all 9 of them. They have changed tactics though ... this was the first time I have seen moonbats carry the American Flag without it being desecrated ... I assume they did this in an attempt to receive honks from passing motorists. It didn't work!!! Oh yeah, they did receive 3-5 honks from people believing they were part of our group but the majority of motorists have been driving thru this area for too long and knew exactly who the moonbats were ... SILENCE!!!

One-half block away at our intersection honks, waves, and yells were in abundance. Metro buses were honking as they passed and passengers waving. Two police cruisers passed thru our intersection with sirens and lights blaring in a great show of support. Taxi drivers were the ones who surprised me ... some of them slowed to at least 1mph as they passed our group and laid on the horn, waving joyously in support. I couldn't help but wonder what the residents of the homes we were in front of thought of the noise factor but even they were supportive of our efforts.

At 2105 (9:05pm) the first bus carrying troops and their families back from a night out returned ... these were the big tour buses with huge windows ... I'll never forget seeing the mother (???) or wife (???) sitting in the front seat beside her son/husband as the bus neared the turn into Walter Reed. This woman was literally jumping out of her seat and waving excitedly!!!! Everyone had the huge grins on their faces as we waved the flags, yelled "THANK YOU" and "WE LOVE YA" .... and yes Sunshine I even heard some of our ladies yelling, "You're our heroes"!!! The inside of the bus glowed from the response of our troops as they looked out and saw flags on every corner of the entrance ... grins were all around INSIDE the bus and out. What a night ... and it set the stage for the next morning ...

Washington DC --- Saturday, November 10, 2007

I arrived in DC at 0800 and began my rounds of the Wall. It didn't take long and I was re-connecting with old bro's, young ladies, and many friends. The reading of names on the Wall was still going on today and I took time to sit and listen and reflect.

One of the leaders of GoE had been in contact with DC Police and was told that Westboro Baptist Church would be kept clear of any Veteran activities. We soon found out that they were actually set up at the corner of Contitution Ave and 7th St NW. Through cell calls from where the parade was setting up, we were told that we had access to them but a heavy police presence. Since we were at 23rd and Constitution we decided to get a pickup and drive closer. MISTAKE ... we found that many roads were blocked by police. Nothing was said about us riding in the back of the pickup truck though and one DC cop even moved a barrier so we could drive a ways closer and find a parking place. The parade was underway before we got 1/2 way there so we were taking many pictures, greeting many vets, and not too worried about WBC. The great thing about it being a Veterans Parade is that the police don't do anything if we jump the lines and stand in the middle of the street to take pictures, ,hug old friends or whatever.

Ok, eventually I made it to 7th and Constitution and the site sickened me. I have pictures which I will post later (right now I'm whupped). WBC was on the outside corner of where the marchers would turn left onto Constitution Ave. They had their stupid signs. They were singing "God hates America" ... they were yelling about our troops raping little boys before they murdered them. After standing there for about 10 minutes I noticed three 'Rolling Thunder' Vets making their way from the crowd to the crosswalks. I said this oughta be good. As the three passed under WBC, the cultists began accusing them of raping little boys ... ROUTE MARCH!!! As a unit the vets turned and moved toward WBC ... the police however intervened and asked them to keep moving, which they did for a short distance. WBC had photographers taking pictures of any incidents that occured presumably since they are mostly lawyers to possibly identify and sue ... yeah right!!! The coolest thing happened when a group of VietVets made the turn in front of WBC ... came to a halt and right face to be looking directly at WBC ... then they all raised the infamous 1-finger salute and yelled, ,"Go to hell TRAITORS". The crowd went bananas!!!! Of course, this group was photographed ... hahahaha.

All in all a very inspiring day. Saw two Medal of Honor recipients, about 15 WWII nurses in uniform (GOD love 'em because the crowd and vets sure did). Saw many cool bikes, corvettes, trucks ... and some of the greatest people in the world!!!

OoooooooooRAH!!!

I just worked on my photos from DC and I do have a few to share. Unfortunately I didn't catch the magic moment with 40-50 1-finger salutes were hoisted high --- I was too busy laughing and cheering!!! I did catch a couple random fingers ... nothing as awe inspiring though as the classic!!!

Posted Image

Westboro Cult in their glory. Notice mama phelps in the middle wearing the upside down flag as a sarong. Notice the police presence, even Deputy Hoss is present. We were talking prior to going down to face the cult and one navy vet suggested we make up a sign that says, "God told me to tell you that He doesn't like WBC"

Posted Image

This is one of their photographers who was documenting all actions directed toward the cult. There were 3 on the building behind the cult and at least one in the crowd. HEY, he would have the pic of the vets saluting the cult!!!!

Posted Image

A couple random salutes from Vets in the march

Posted Image

Now this vet is quite proficient in his salute. Hmmm is one finger merely a statement but the two fisted one finger a 'shout'???

Sorry I missed the classic for all ya'll. This was a distasteful picture session and I feel right dirty about now. We'll move on to a few other pictures from the day that should lighten the mood and help us forget this cult and their sickness. Onward and forward ...

Forever faithful ... All Gave Some ... Some Gave All

Posted Image

A field of flags placed by a group of ladies who were handing out 'poppies' to all vets. I'm ashamed to say that I cannot think of the organization they were with ... I'm thinking the Red Cross but am not at all sure of that. I made a mental note too at time ... I should have known better!!! The 'field' must have been 50yds by 50yds square. A beautiful site that drew a ton of attention!!!

Posted Image

Leading the parade was the DC Police Motor Squad. In the sidecars were vets mostly from past campaigns. Gary, the sidecar on the very right (looking at the picture) was a current Marine in his dress uniform. I was standing with a Navy Vet and as they drew nearer, we snapped to and saluted the Colors. I was surprised to see that as the Marine passed by he was standing in the sidecar saluting us. Semper FI!!!

Posted Image

Next in line was the honor guard, the chief of police and more DC police motors.

Posted Image

Quickly followed by this classic ... any of ya'll remember these? hahahahaha

... hmmmm having trouble posting more pics. I'll post this and follow with another

Loud and Proud ... Leading the Vet MC Groups was 'Nam Knights ... followed by Rolling Thunder, and Patriot Guard.

I was slow on the draw again when this rider passed. Wished I could have gotten a picture from the front!!! Cool ride ...

hahaha a Maryland commuter truck!!!

Ever looked into the eyes of a Medal of Honor recipient? Want to see what it means? Look closely and zoom in if you can ... the eyes tell it all. I know this Vet still stands ready if called.

I'll end with this picture ... God Bless America!!!

Thanks for the photos, TD. I kept thinking the the WBC cult had a lot of people to turn out at places like that. looking at the photo, there's not that many of them. Those people are sick and need medical help and also from above. I don't know how to say this in more eloquent words, but the people from WBC are going to burn in Hell!

The memorial with the soldiers in the ponchos is the Korean War Memorial.

TD, that Medal of Honor recipient, his face looks very familiar. Got any idea on his name, I have seen him before somewhere.

And the Maryland commuter truck, I drove one just like that all over Korea.

I don't know his name nor the other recipient. Here is their float ...

The signage on the side rear of the float said, "A Salute To The Recipients of the Medal of Honor" then "Presented by HBO". Names were not listed though.

Wonderful photographs TD. I'd like to see more if you had them. Some of the Viet Nam vets from my unit had to miss this years activities in DC because they're over in the sandbox. These guys were in Nam the last few years of the war. Some were set to retire but decided to stay in when the s**t hit the fan. God love 'em and all vets everywhere.

Steven,

I do have some more but they are pretty rough. Let me see if I can clean them up some and I'll post them. I took a ton of pictures but I also use 'multiple exposure' so I usually end up with 2,3,4 of the same shot. That equates to not having as many pictures as I thought :o

This picture was taken by Kathy with GoE. She was on the side of the street where WBC was located. This is part of one of the groups that 'saluted' with vigor ... not sure if its the classic I spoke of but its pretty close.

This photo is the Viet Nam vets when they were passing the Westboro cult group and gave that bunch of maggots the traditional one finger salute!

BTW, the WBC is not in any way affiliated with any Baptist church or organization.

I recognized one of the Medal of Honor winners. As a young Lieutenant he gave me a good butt chewing. Great Man and I have always admired him. This is his citation from the the US Army website.

Rank and organization: First Lieutenant, U.S. Army, 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), 1st Special Forces. Place and date: Republic of Vietnam, 30 December 1968. Entered service at: Montgomery, Ala. Born: 11 July 1939, Opelika, Ala. Citation: For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty. 1st Lt. Howard (then Sfc .), distinguished himself while serving as platoon sergeant of an American-Vietnamese platoon which was on a mission to rescue a missing American soldier in enemy controlled territory in the Republic of Vietnam. The platoon had left its helicopter landing zone and was moving out on its mission when it was attacked by an estimated 2-company force. During the initial engagement, 1st Lt. Howard was wounded and his weapon destroyed by a grenade explosion. 1st Lt. Howard saw his platoon leader had been wounded seriously and was exposed to fire. Although unable to walk, and weaponless, 1st Lt. Howard unhesitatingly crawled through a hail of fire to retrieve his wounded leader. As 1st Lt. Howard was administering first aid and removing the officer's equipment, an enemy bullet struck 1 of the ammunition pouches on the lieutenant's belt, detonating several magazines of ammunition. 1st Lt. Howard momentarily sought cover and then realizing that he must rejoin the platoon, which had been disorganized by the enemy attack, he again began dragging the seriously wounded officer toward the platoon area. Through his outstanding example of indomitable courage and bravery, 1st Lt. Howard was able to rally the platoon into an organized defense force. With complete disregard for his safety, 1st Lt. Howard crawled from position to position, administering first aid to the wounded, giving encouragement to the defenders and directing their fire on the encircling enemy. For 3 1/2 hours 1st Lt. Howard's small force and supporting aircraft successfully repulsed enemy attacks and finally were in sufficient control to permit the landing of rescue helicopters. 1st Lt. Howard personally supervised the loading of his men and did not leave the bullet-swept landing zone until all were aboard safely. 1st Lt. Howard's gallantry in action, his complete devotion to the welfare of his men at the risk of his life were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit on himself, his unit, and the U.S. Army.

The Man on the right. He was an E-7 SFC when he won the Medal and was given a battlefield commission. If you want to read some really good info get the Book SOG and read the chapter on "Pale Blue Ribbon". Most of the Chapter is about Howard. There are those in the know who say he deserved it on two other occasions as well. He is a Man of Honor and a true warrior.

I am proud to support the military my father was at Pearl Harbor on that dec 7th after that he served on the CV-6 till it was sent to Bremerton Wash, to be repaired from jap suicide attacks. After WW2 he enlisted in the army at my mothers request. I lived around loose green skin for 14 years as a army brat. My only regret was that when i tried to enlist in the navy my uncle sam required that i see better than i could. I guess 'squids' need to see with both eyes which i never was able to do.

I pray for all who are fighting islmo fascists, many fronts same war. One of my sons is currently in a Israeli border police unit keeping islmo fascists from murdering civilians when they sleep. Hopefully America will never have this problem but with the defeatist in one of our parties I worry about it comming here.

Which one in the photo was 1st Lt. Howard? The man on the right was the one that seemed so familiar to me.

Also thank you for posting the info about him.

Well if I would have kept Reading I would have seen you all have already figured out who he is!!

VMI WELCOME TO THE MOUNTAIN my friend! Thank you for your service and thank you for sharing and being here. A FINE mountain you have found and no finer people will you meet unless your on a Marine Corps base :)

Welcome again.

yochanan, welcome to The Mountain. smiley-welcome-sign

I can see that reading your posts here, that you fit right in like an old timer with us. We're glad to have you here with us and we all need to do everything that we can possibly do to fight and put an end to islamic fascists. If we don't succeed, they will eventually take us over and I don't plan on letting that happen by doing what I can to stop it.

AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WELCOME TO THE MOUNTAIN!!!!!!

Is it ok if I post this on a couple forums and send to The Veterans' Voice and also to the Veterans I am in touch with ? There are a lot but I wanted to ask you first before I go posting , etc. I will have to post the link because I don't know any other way . I am not computer literate like alot of y'all are.

Those WBC idiots on going straight to hell . They look like a bunch of wacko's that excaped out of the mental hospital.

It is wonderful to see this tribute to America's heroes. To all the vets and servicemen, please know, that we love you all, we pray for you and your safe return. And, fwiw, we fight for you politically and socially. God bless America. God bless our servicemen.
