I don't know how anybody got it - a personal phone call from The Bounty Hunter to his son who is dating a black girl. He used the word several times in the phone call, and I guess he uses it a lot in his day to day talk ....but never have I heard it on his show on A&E. A&E has now postponed the show. Publicity I suppose, but you can't tell me the men and women who are filming haven't heard him say it and edited it out. And that's good! I don't like that word and it's never rolled off my tongue.
I just think about all this freedom of speech that so many people are clamoring on about, how it's OK for some, but not others ....now here's a guy who made a phone call, and it's all over the news. Yikes!!
What bothers me the most, is that there is a whole generation of kids who think it's OK to use these words and feel the way the music has interpreted life (or so they think), not knowing what the outcome will be. Well ....this is the way it will be!

I think it's ridiculous! It was a "private" message to his son. I'm sure his son didn't like the message, but he should not have made it public. What makes anybody think they have the right to tell anyone what words they can use in private? Well he was right about it though. He used the word and it got out, and now he may be losing it all.

Dog the bounty hunter Chapman's show got pulled from the A&E network because of a heated private message that he left his son about not wanting him to date a black girl. He said it's not because she's black, but because he uses the "N" word sometimes and he doesn't want to take the chance that she would be offended and "out" him to the public and risk losing everything he's worked for these last thirty years.

Here's a link

I'm no fan of Dogs, and I'm not condoning what he said, I'm just so tired of this public outrage when a white person uses the "N" word when that's all you hear on İrap songs, and black people use it towards each other in the "hood" all the time.

He has issued an apology for what he said.

We know from recent past experiences that apology's mean nothing these days and aren't accepted.

We are living in a different time warp than it was not long ago.

I know but I don't know how they made the word "cracker" into a racial slur. It just seems funny to me.

LL , this is best I can do.The word is from England meaning braggart to them. Crackers a name they have given to whites as they use to feel we were great boasters; they were a lawless set of rascals on the frontiers of Virginia, Maryland, the Carolina's, and Georgia, who often change their places of abode". A similar usage was that of "Virginia squatters" (illegal settlers)EDIT Not illegal immigrants

It's like the word HONKIES, that started when whites would drink heavily and drive thought the colored district blowing there horns and yelling,So the colored would yell here come the honkies and go inside there housed or what ever.So now we are honkie crackers.If anyone can say different , that's because this is what was told to me.

Thanks 3006, having been raised in NYC I never heard that term as a kid. Not that there weren't ethnic slurs because there were I just don't remember that one. I remember "whitey" but that one makes me laugh too. :lol:

All kidding aside using racial slurs is hurtful and incites anger, and it shouldn't be done. We should all try to get along and treat each other with respect. We also have to live in the real world where people have lived different circumstances and have different outlooks on life. Dog grew up as a criminal and is a convicted murderer and his speech reflected that in his conversation to his son. He was being honest about using the "N" word and has seen what happens to people when these things get publicized and he was trying in his own way to prevent it from happening to him and as a result has brought down his worst fears on himself. I know when I'm really upset things can come out of my mouth that I would not say otherwise and am immediately sorry for saying them. From what I understand Dog Chapman doesn't behave in a racist way to people of color, in fact his Minister that he confides in and sometimes travels with is black and he has said he's never heard Dog talk that way before.

I think people over-reacting about this.

I'm not just gonna come out and test the Warning System here.. First I'm gonna ask if the 1st Amendment has any place here, and is this Forum ruled by it or by PC .. Then I'm gonna ask if my opinion has any place here..

I grew up in Texas where Imancipation was last recognized and MOST of my friends are black and my closest friends are black and I spent my early years in the newly desegrated school system..

I started a business, well actually 4 businesses, when I was just 14 and the first people I hired were black.. Discrimination and bigotry is not somethin I like, yet BIAS is somethin I have much of.. Character and Morales is placed above all else in my little world, except honesty..

Dog was just bein honest and his kid saw a way to make money off it !! Listen to what Dog said..

Ali you're funny....I had a dream.... ;) And you're exactly right...we shouldn't have to worry about the language police when we're having a private family conversation!

They just played the whole conversation between Dog and his son on Fox. It turns out that the girl in question had already been talking about taping them and using it against them. That's why Dog said what he said, and he wasn't yelling at his son or anything. He was just explaining the cold hard facts to him about that girl. He said it wasn't because she's black, it's because of her intentions. He told his son he would get him another job, but as long as he was dating that girl he couldn't work for him. That's fair enough, I don't blame him.

I loved watching George Jefferson and Archie Bunker too. I was 14 and had just moved to California at the time and they reminded me of back home.... :lol:

People get offended about things that don't concern them. That's why Jessie and Al always have their noses stuck where they ought not be. I think that a private conversation should be just that, private, and if it is taped and spread all over the world, the person that did the taping should be the one that gets punished. Pretty soon we won't even be able to say "fart"!

A few thoughts and comments;

The shows below are still shown on cable TV;

"All in the family" w/Archie Bunker, Edith his wife, their daughter Gloria, and the son in law Michael "the meathead", the neighbors were the Jeffersons George, Louise"Weezy", and their older teenaged son.
" The Jeffersons" was a spin off show from "All In the Family".

Both shows were activist shows, although they were set forth as comedies they were serious and were both in ways helpful and hurtful to America.

This was posted;

"I loved watching George Jefferson and Archie Bunker too. I was 14 and had just moved to California at the time and they reminded me of back home...."

This was a reply;
"Those WERE the Days, weren't they?! When did we get so serious about everything?"

Of course the words "those were the days" are from the song that was sung by Archie and Edith at the start of the activist show "All in the Family"

Anyone having watched that show should know that it was activist, which included the use of certain words as in teaching people PC talk.

Archie Bunker and George Jefferson had racial bias and both used words about each others race.

Did those shows start the PC mess we get into sometimes now? No, but they did play their parts into it.

I definately remember hearing the words, honkie, cracker, whitey, wasp, spic(sp?), colored people, negro, Jew and Highmie(sp?), yes I was yound and watched those shows quite a lot, still do ever so often.

Now I don't know for sure but I think the word nigger may have been used a time or two?

"MASH" was a comedy show, although about a MASH unit in the Korean War, it was anti-Vietnam War (which was actually a martial action not a declared as I remember.)

These shows still air too, The Andy Griffith Show, Leave it to Beaver, Gun Smoke, I love Lucy, and several more.

Thanks,

Duke

PS,
I was a teenager in the late 60's and I remember when the schools were integrated, got my first Black school teacher( Her name was Mrs. White :) , I liked her ).

I used to use the N word but grew out of it, I also have been directly called whitey, cracker, soda cracker, white bread, and believe me it wasn't in joking.

I had a teacher in 1st grade named Mrs. Martin. I really liked her . When I was a newborn baby I had a black lady take care of me from birth to 5 years old. She never charged my mom. I bonded with her . I got really upset when my 2nd grade teacher was white. I wanted Mrs. Martin. I tried to call Mrs. Martin last year but she had already retired. I wanted to tell her she was always my favorite teacher adn that I never forgot her.

I no longer use the N word and wish no one did, but some folks races including Black do use it with hate and some without hate.

Harry Bellafonte called Colin Powell basically "a house nigger" when Colin Powell was part of the Bush administration, many of you remember that. Black people still use the term "Uncle Tom" against other Black people as a way of cursing them.

When it comes to the private conversation of Dog the Bounty Hunter and it being made public by his son, I don't think that was right.

I am not surprised to hear a guy named Dog with his history and what I heard said and also bleeped on his show, say something like he did in that taped conversation.

I think a lot of Black people have already agreed he shouldn't be punished, of course others want every ounce of revenge they can get held against him, others just want him held accountable by the public and maybe not let his show back on air.

One thing I think about some words being used is how and in what context.

I used to call people names including friends in a funny way, but would get mad quick if someone called any of them names in seriousness.

People of several races still do stuff like that today.

I really do want to hear more details on his son and the Black woman or girl he is dating?

That will be very interesting if the truth comes out.

Including the legality of recording the conversation.

Most home phone message recorders will not allow taping another person during a conversation, so was the message recorded by a machine that Dog Chapman furnished to his son because of business reasons or did the son use something he himself got or someone else made available to him?

I like a lot want to know more about those aspects of the private phone conversation being made public?

Thanks for posting the interview Sunshine. First thing I could think of, was could you ever imagine having to talk about/apologize for your 'dirty laundry' on National TV? To boot, over a personal phone call?
Duke, I think everybody loved to hate Archie Bunker!! ....that was the gist of the show. Meathead was the 'good guy' and always argued the point. I can't say if it added to the 'trouble' we have today with words. The words the kids say today don't come from "All in the Family", or "The Jefferson's", or "Good Times" ....they come from the hip-hop and rap community. My daughter was a teenager in the early 90's and a lot of kids were listening to rap. Not knowing what it was - small town, not hearing it on the radio and being "old" (still listening to the Rolling Stones!); I bought her a CD. Three songs into it, it flew through the air like a flying saucer out the truck window onto Rt. 8.
I'm sorry it didn't change the course of the world.
