Pete brought his name up at supper tonight and (right now) thinks he would be a good man for the job. I've always liked what he has to say about the issues facing America, and I especially like the fact that he isn't a wealthy slob ....was I politically correct in saying that?!!!

I do have this to say about Huckabee... he hasn't forgotten where he came from.

I believe he is the most sincere of the Republican candidates.

Although there seems to be some question on where he stands on the Globalist agenda. I tend to think this guy is the real deal and like Condor said, Everytime he says something it jives with the values that I hold dear. Pro-Life, Pro-Second Ammendent, Not just anti-tax, he is anti IRS (he would like to shut the doors and impose a new flat tax.). He has handled himself very well in the debates. His only two problems seems to be money and do people see him as being able to beat the Hilda-beast in the general.

I have made no bones about my support for Duncan Hunter.

Before I made that choice I did a lot of research on Mr. Huckabee. My main reason for supporting Hunter was that I believe he has a better insight into the workings of the government and in the foreign affairs.

HOWEVER, Since Mr. Huckabe has been campaigning there have been things brought out about him that make me want to think about my decision. I haven't changed my mind yet but I do believe that he is a good candidate.

There was very little information about Mr. Huckabee before his campaign got underway.

Here is a link that answers a lot of questions about him.

re: Huckabee
Yeah, he sounds pretty good. I thought so too. But, then I ran into a bunch of things that show his record as a tax hiker, as governor of Arkansas. Tax Hike Mike, Club for Growth (on Mike)

He also has a rather unsavory record on illegal immigration. Check out what Americans for Legal Immigration have to say. Apparently he supports the Dream Act. :o ALIPAC

Huckabee's Record--anything but conservative (NewsMax)

Right now, I'm thinkin' that his actions speak much louder than his words.

The more I learn about him the more I don't like him.
Quote:

2004: Mike Huckabee promotes benefits of illegal immigration
On July 6, 2004 Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee - currently a presidential contender - spoke on his monthly radio show and, responding to a caller's question about illegal aliens, said the following:

"If they're illegal they're not about to show up at some public institution and say I'd like funds because when they do the I.D. check and find out they're illegal then they're in trouble... [quotes a study purportedly showing that illegal aliens contribute more than they take...] So these are not the people who are accessing welfare, food stamps because they're not eligible for them. They can't get them... They're purchasing things and paying sales tax... They're buying things. They're paying taxes but they're not getting the benefits of a taxpayer. Not Social Security, not food stamps, welfare, benefits from employers... The truth is the illegal aliens are costing themselves more by being illegal when the real goal ought to be to give people the opportunity to become legal, naturalized citizens of the United States."
The article then adds: Huckabee emphasized that he was not justifying illegal immigration. Obviously, he did, and we don't have to look too far to get one idea why that might be.

Needless to say, a tape of this show would be very useful.

They're not getting welfare, food stamps, social security, etc.. because they're not eligible for them? Is he an ostrich with his head in the sand or what?!

Oh...by the way, welcome Nancy! :)

While I disagree with him on some things, Duncan Hunter is the closest thing to a conservative that is in the primary.

He has a record of votes and quotes that we can base our decision on. Compare his record to the records of the others and you will find he is basically the same person today that he was when he first ran for congress 18 years ago.

Keep in mind that even though he had a son in the Marine Corps, he has consistently supported the war on terror and the battles in Iraq and Afghanistan. No one can say that he didn't have anything to lose.

the local paper tried to find dirt on him and the best they could come up with was that the tax assessor had screwed up the assessment of his home and he had only paid the tax bill that was sent to him. That one fizzled out pretty quick. Believe me the libs in that rag worked hard to find something to use against him.

For the one that is for Huckabee because he isn't a "rich slob". Hunter didn't come from a "rich" background.

That's right Herb, unlike most of the other candidates Duncan Hunter didn't suddenly become pro or con anything. He has the same convictions today that he had in the beginning, and his convictions mirror what most of us on this board are for.

You're preaching to the choir here...I love Tom Tancredo! :) He and Duncan Hunter are my choices...I would be ecstatic if either one of them won.

Here's more on Huckabee:

Quote:

In 2005, Huckabee called un-Christian, un-American and irresponsible a bill introduced by state Sen. Jim Holt that would have denied state benefits to illegal immigrants and would have required valid proof of citizenship to register to vote.

I know a lot of people have high hopes for Huckabee and I don't want to just go around bursting bubbles, I just want us to be informed because so far what I'm seeing is that he is the same as George Bush on matters of illegal immigration and globalism.

Tom Tancredo seems like a good conservative to me.

Tom Tancredo is a conservative and I would have no problem supporting him.

I believe that Duncan Hunter has slightly better qualifications and therefore believe that he would make a better president.

Part of the reason I believe this may be that Hunter has been the congressman from the district I live in for the whole time I have lived here and I have had a better chance to learn about him.

I would love to be able to vote a Hunter/Tancredo ticket. Vice a versa would be almost as good.

To me, this doesn't sound too good about Mr. Huckabee. I am very disappointed in him.

Quote:

Betsy Hagan, Arkansas director of the conservative Eagle Forum and a key backer of his early runs for office, was once "his No. 1 fan." She was bitterly disappointed with his record. "He was pro-life and pro-gun, but otherwise a liberal," she says. "Just like Bill Clinton he will charm you, but don't be surprised if he takes a completely different turn in office."

Phyllis Schlafly, president of the national Eagle Forum, is even more blunt. "He destroyed the conservative movement in Arkansas, and left the Republican Party a shambles," she says. "Yet some of the same evangelicals who sold us on George W. Bush as a 'compassionate conservative' are now trying to sell us on Mike Huckabee."

Mr. Huckabee was the only GOP candidate to refuse to endorse President Bush's veto of the Democrats' bill to vastly expand the Schip health-care program. Only he and John McCain have endorsed the discredited cap-and-trade system to limit global-warming emissions that has proved a fiasco in Europe.

Source

I honestly do not understand why Chuck Norris endorsed him.

If I remember correctly, when I did that little quiz mine came up Hunter and Tancredo and they were within a couple of points of each other.
